looking at things like that apsalaus, the neue ziel from 0083 and the big zam from 0079, it impresses me too much how insane Zeon's technology went, how powerful and massive their weapons and mobile armors were...but the Feds beat 'em somehow, every time. (Minus Zeta Gundam of course, when the Feds were the bad guys lol)

If they didn't make Miller's report and the final episode this series would be closer to perfection. But yeah, They live, have children, and Shiro is thought KIA so he doesn't get in trouble

The gundam 08th ms are more to realistic , as Goes to stardust 0083, The didn't need any new type ability To Pilot a gundam, But what can we do about it, the creator want to add the new type ability. such as amuro.

But claiming that the dub sucks as "dub elitism" is not reality. The truth is that English dubbing comes from the school of over explaining, ex: "that's for crushing my dream of destroying jabrow with the Apsalus." No shit. I thought that he was going to destroy jabrow with a fork. What he is going to destroy Jabrow with we know already, and besides the intent is more important. I'm sorry to say that English dubs most of the time plain suck.
I'm sure much of it has to do matching mouth movements. His Japanese line there was subbed as "Now take my dream!". I dunno if there'd be any other connotations to it in Japanese (have to ask Japanese speaker), but that line alone would sound pretty awkward in English, not to mention it probably wouldn't match with his mouth. As far as the acting, I think Lex Lang did an excellent job with Ghinius. It makes me wonder why he hasn't played many other villains :/

I wanted to add that also the intonations and emotions are often off as well. I cannot help to think that there is a different cultural perception of Anime in America, leading to the often cartoonish sounding dialogue. Unfortunately does do justice to the creators who wanted to tell a more serious story.
In recent retrospect, Ghinius in this episode is even more gut-wrenching than ever. We all know how I feel about him but goddamn... he spends his last hours on Earth in complete psychological agony. Say what you will about him that's a fate I wouldn't wish on anyone, no matter how bad of a person they are. IMHO that's the real downer of the ending. Fuck Shiro's leg or Aina and Shiro almost dying but not thanks to the wonders of plot armor(TM).
back in the day toonami didnt air the last episode because it showed children newtypes from the flanagan institute, and toonami didnt want to show kids designed for war. you can watch it on kumby(.)com

Amuro says that he will use super napalm to destroy all the pieces that White Base can`t carry,and he shoots them with Beam Rifle and they instantly catches on fire. They apparently didn`t want to show napalm....Well Karen(I guess that`s how you spell her name) kinda made this show for adult swim lather than CN(the language).It`s still awesome though.. America is kinda strict on what they show to their kids.

I was happy back in the day CN was putting Gundam seed on TV since I liked Gundam since I was like in 2nd grade.I love Gundam and how 08th MS Team is made to resemble the real fighting forces of WWII so it is very realistic.And wow GM sniper is the strongest Mobile Suit in the show.........
@DUDEAKATOREI its cool, yea, i really never got into SEED, i started watching 00 on here and its good. 08th MS team is probably my favorite Gundam series, like what you said, its the most realistic, shows the stress and things like that on soldiers. yea, who wudda thought a GM, my Favorite Mobile suit of this series has to be the Ez8, spare parts that actually perform better than the regular Gundams
I actually liked the TV version more than the DVD unedited version of 08th MS Team some of the quotes were better like Norris going "I have found my soldiers resting place" on edited TV version, DVD version "I have now found the place were I am to die" first was more poetic.
Oh, I get the feeling he's got a long record of psychological and physical ailments. Various supplemental sources have said he's very sickly, and that kind of crazy does not usually develop overnight. Especially when it's the result of trauma earlier in life, which I've always felt was the case with Ghin. Plus IMHO the main thing that made him go nuts was Aina more or less turning his world inside out and beating it to a bloody pulp via her fling with Shiro.
Even at the end of the series it's still a mystery what happened to the members of the 08th MS team that were sent into space at the war's end. Let's just say Karen and Eladore were killed in the nuclear attack in Operation Stardust, and Sanders became a Titan and was killed in the Gryps conflict :P
Shiro loses a leg now that's how wars in Gundam are suppose to be like. 08th MS team, Zeta, and IGLOO are my favorites from what I've seen and of course Seed since it was what got me into Gundam.

kojima and General Kowen, ( the black guy that supported the albion in 0083 and was restrained after witnessing Jamitov plan) were the only good feddie leaders. The one your thinking of that try to sabotage operation odessa, his name is elron or something close to it.
my question is why arent they dead? the beam took off the cockpit and below of the gundam plus the detonation in the crater wouldve killed them even if they exited the cockpit so wtf? anyway still good series 5/5

Well Shiro was on the side of the EZ8 that got roasted so im guessing he got some shrapnel in it or it got burned pretty bad and since he an Aina had to run for it and they didn't have any medical help they had to remove Shiro's leg since they couldn't save it-- it probably got badly infected or something

Oh man, this brings back some memories and feelings. Thakns a lot for uploading this! Now, if only I could find ALL of the episodes on DVD that would make me a very happy guy.
The last scene further convinced me that this series is a exceptional. My first reaction when I saw Shiro missing a leg was "...that fucked up." But, in a good way. The director didn't sell out to a complete happy ending. He chose wisely in not leaving the protagonist untouched. As usual, with the exception of a few scenes, the English dub doesn't do it justice.
Unless you're fluent in Japanese, I don't get why English dubs are regarded as "inferior." Hearing even poorly-acted English (which this series doesn't have) is much preferable than listening to gibberish with subtitles for me.
Actually, I just realized that English dubs are most likely regarded as inferior solely by fatass loser anime nerds who wish they were Japanese, and watching anime in its original language helps them maintain their pathetic fantasies.
The 08th MS Team is much more believable than just about every other Gundam show, but even that's not saying much. It's more like, "these machines would never exist in real life, but if they did that's how people would use them." "Realism" and "Gundam" are two words which don't belong together.

Actually, it's not mass-produced at this time. This EZ8 is actually an enhanced RX-79 (the model everyone else is piloting) made from scraps of Shiro's old Gundam and enhanced capabilities. I found it funny how they gave the spy upgrades.

In recent retrospect, Ghinius in this episode is even more gut-wrenching than ever. We all know how I feel about him but goddamn... he spends his last hours on Earth in complete psychological agony. Say what you will about him that's a fate I wouldn't wish on anyone, no matter how bad of a person they are. IMHO that's the real downer of the ending. Fuck Shiro's leg or Aina and Shiro almost dying but not thanks to the wonders of plot armor(TM).

back in the day toonami didnt air the last episode because it showed children newtypes from the flanagan institute, and toonami didnt want to show kids designed for war. you can watch it on kumby(.)com

Amuro says that he will use super napalm to destroy all the pieces that White Base can`t carry,and he shoots them with Beam Rifle and they instantly catches on fire. They apparently didn`t want to show napalm....Well Karen(I guess that`s how you spell her name) kinda made this show for adult swim lather than CN(the language).It`s still awesome though.. America is kinda strict on what they show to their kids.

sorry that this replyment was week late because I am busy. I was happy back in the day CN was putting Gundam seed on TV since I liked Gundam since I was like in 2nd grade.I love Gundam and how 08th MS Team is made to resemble the real fighting forces of WWII so it is very realistic.And wow GM sniper is the strongest Mobile Suit in the show.........

@DUDEAKATOREI its cool, yea, i really never got into SEED, i started watching 00 on here and its good. 08th MS team is probably my favorite Gundam series, like what you said, its the most realistic, shows the stress and things like that on soldiers. yea, who wudda thought a GM, my Favorite Mobile suit of this series has to be the Ez8, spare parts that actually perform better than the regular Gundams

I actually liked the TV version more than the DVD unedited version of 08th MS Team some of the quotes were better like Norris going "I have found my soldiers resting place" on edited TV version, DVD version "I have now found the place were I am to die" first was more poetic.

Oh, I get the feeling he's got a long record of psychological and physical ailments. Various supplemental sources have said he's very sickly, and that kind of crazy does not usually develop overnight. Especially when it's the result of trauma earlier in life, which I've always felt was the case with Ghin. Plus IMHO the main thing that made him go nuts was Aina more or less turning his world inside out and beating it to a bloody pulp via her fling with Shiro.

Even at the end of the series it's still a mystery what happened to the members of the 08th MS team that were sent into space at the war's end. Let's just say Karen and Eladore were killed in the nuclear attack in Operation Stardust, and Sanders became a Titan and was killed in the Gryps conflict :P

Shiro loses a leg now that's how wars in Gundam are suppose to be like. 08th MS team, Zeta, and IGLOO are my favorites from what I've seen and of course Seed since it was what got me into Gundam.

my question is why arent they dead? the beam took off the cockpit and below of the gundam plus the detonation in the crater wouldve killed them even if they exited the cockpit so wtf? anyway still good series 5/5

Well Shiro was on the side of the EZ8 that got roasted so im guessing he got some shrapnel in it or it got burned pretty bad and since he an Aina had to run for it and they didn't have any medical help they had to remove Shiro's leg since they couldn't save it-- it probably got badly infected or something

The last scene further convinced me that this series is a exceptional. My first reaction when I saw Shiro missing a leg was "...that fucked up." But, in a good way. The director didn't sell out to a complete happy ending. He chose wisely in not leaving the protagonist untouched. As usual, with the exception of a few scenes, the English dub doesn't do it justice.

Unless you're fluent in Japanese, I don't get why English dubs are regarded as "inferior." Hearing even poorly-acted English (which this series doesn't have) is much preferable than listening to gibberish with subtitles for me.

The 08th MS Team is much more believable than just about every other Gundam show, but even that's not saying much. It's more like, "these machines would never exist in real life, but if they did that's how people would use them." "Realism" and "Gundam" are two words which don't belong together.

Actually, it's not mass-produced at this time. This EZ8 is actually an enhanced RX-79 (the model everyone else is piloting) made from scraps of Shiro's old Gundam and enhanced capabilities. I found it funny how they gave the spy upgrades.
