The guy in the black and white wetsuit dropped in thus breaking the most important rule of surfing etiquette. The person closest to the peak of the wave or the person already on the wave has priority. Always. The guy was pretty much robbed of his ride. It doesn't matter if he was on the wave for 9 seconds or 9 minutes. It was his wave. But don't worry about it. Just learn from the mistake and don't do it again. Every surfer makes this mistake in their early days.

@humpdawg1 yes but there is also another term called "snakeing". The guy on the inside doesn't have priorty if he is snaking the other person. Snakeing means taking a wave out of turn. In some places that will get your head kicked in the same as "dropping in".
