@srr11 - When I was there, Primary was T-34B at VT-1 Saufley Field. Basic was T-28B or C at Whiting. In my case it was VT-3 at Whiting South, then VT-5 at Mainside for formation and Carrier-Quals.
I can remember before all you jet jocks ever got there. That was when the T29 and TH57A were the aircraft of choice. Guess that dates me doesn't it. But if you were there you had one of the best times of your life. I'm still working for the government at Ft. Campbell, KY. for the Army. I would just like to say Thanks to all of you who have served or are still serving. It is you who makes this country great!
I did my flight training in those during 1990-92 at Whiting field with VT-6. Interesting to see that the Navy/Marines continue to use the EXACT same aircraft today.
I miss my days there....T28 Trojan was the primary bird then.

He's parking in front of VT3's shack for a hotseat. Went thru the program in 1987, first VT3 then HT18, flew 46's with HMM-164 at Tustin MCAS(H).

Instructor is preparing to hot seat 2nd student. Looks like a Doer Bird. Personally I love the Red Knights of VT-3.
