I did that in Israel, Sit on the high slope of a mountain and see a dust devil traveling down a road, then run down and try to intercept it before it passed you up. Fun, but its like being sand blasted. Doesn't feel the greatest.

@riceicles123 Actually when you call in to Skywarn, you call it in as a Tornado. NWS Meteorologists are the ones that classify it as a Dust Devil, Water Spout, etc etc etc. That is what NWS Meteorologists are paid to do. We just call in and say Tornado has touched the ground.

@TheStormchaser1 The definition of a tornado is a spinning collumn of air in contact with the ground and the base of a cumulonimbus or towering cumulus occasionally, and the majority of the time are caused by the mesocyclone in a supercell thunderstorm and i cant see a cloud in sight, and not even a shadow caused by a cloud, and to me i think that reporting a dust devil on a fair day like that without even a cloud in sight as a "tornado on the ground" would be silly and would cause a false alarm

They dont report dust devils, but they do report Wall clouds, funnel clouds, mamattus, tornadoes etc. Tornadoes are made from thunderstorms, and only when a thunderstorm is happening can an early warning be issued, because dust devils have almost nothing to do with tornadic thunderstorms, so using them as signs for an early warning would be quite unreliable

@riceicles123 Yes Stormcells do form your "Typical" EF-1 to EF-5 tornadoes. But, dust devils are very similiar you need the right atmospheric conditions. Every bit of data helps on locations where they were formed and the conditions they were created. And, if the conditions look similiar you have a Tornado Watch.

Majority of tornadoes, that includes dust devils never get the warning. They are usually called in 10-15 minutes after the event happened. But, all data is important.

@petehawkins09 it probably could damage your eyes by scratching your cornea if it is a pretty good one, or cause very minor damage by throwing lightweight lawn furniture around but otherwise they are harmless. They are common all over the world and are associated with updrafts not messocyclones like tornadoes (although landspouts and most waterspouts technically aren't either but they make contact with the cloud base so are sometimes considered tornadoes by many meteorologists).
