  • Where is this song about??

    Robbie I love you<3

  • I can see why this must've been awkward filming, but I think Robert is overreacting when they say it's their worse video :) They really haven't made one REALLY bad video.

  • @Tinewashere It's pretty bad. Especially in context with the book. I can see how he would have hated it. I didn't know there was a video for it until just now.

  • semplicemente fantastici

  • thanks , merci a the cure pour faire de la si belle musique , to make so great music

  • Robbie is pretty here. <3

  • One of the first concerts I went to. Loved them from the first time I heard them when I was 13 a long long freaking time ago. Saw them when I was 19 back in the very early 90's. This was one of my favorite songs by them back when I was a teenager still is.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!! And I love their goth style...

  • love the cure!

  • this song makes me cry and feel reliefed the same time.. I LOVE THE CURE... This band is indeed a Cure for me. Thank God Robert was born.

  • oh this girls acting.. so classic.

but seriously this song gives me chilllls everytime. it's gorgeous.

  • aww LOVE IT! MY ROBBIE (L)

  • Who is this amazing "Charlotte" in the video?

  • lyrics dont make sense but i love this band

  • they make it...

u just need to read some books... :)

  • fuck tim pope, this is the best cure video EVAR

  • By far my favorite Cure song. I can play it over and over and not get sick of it. I love the layered vocals and haunting distortion. Brilliant.

  • ♪♥THE CURE!! FAN-Frickin -tasic!!!!! GOD there incredible!! ♪♥

  • stunning girl ! , fantastic song .

  • Charlotte sometimes has rickets!

  • does anyone know what pedal robert used on his guitar for this song? It's some kind of bell like flange.

  • magic

  • This was the first one I heard which made me fall in love with The Cure!

  • Definitely the most dark of all the songs by The Cure.

Inspired by the Penelope Farmer book, but this song has a much darker meaning.

  • The girl in this video is smoking hot. Hard to believe this was like 25 years ago... she probably looks like hell now.

  • My favorite song after Lovesong.

  • Lovesong, a Forest, All Cats Are Grey....

  • I am sorry I have to disagree w u when u say in Spanish that this video is shit! Actually as a Cure fan I think all their videos are perfect! Just pay attention to the lyrics, it transports u to a trip into the song! The Cure member watching her enter the castle is FAB! Her eyes talk and you need nothing else!

  • Read the book! Amazing book written by Penelope Farmer in 1969.

  • el video es una mierda, hasta robert lo dice, pero la cancion sta bueniiisima!!!

  • omg omg hes so cute and was that his sister in that?

  • That chick looks like Gretchen from Donnie Darko..

  • Apart of fact that this song is awesome, that girl is very cute.

  • God Robert Smith was SO CUTE

  • THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING.

  • what i am thinking* :)))

  • Lol lol

  • This is seriously weird. :S xoxo`

  • siento escalofríos !!!!

  • I still love this video. Robert looks so young back then. I have been a fan since 1987 and seen many great concerts.

  • "the masses werent supposed to get it, . . . or like it. " well that doesn't make a whole lot of sense ;-) hey, many great bands had a bad video director at some point. shit happens . didn't robert also say he hates that video? I think I heard him say that.

  • no dude. the video was cool, mysterious, . . .non - commercial. .. the masses werent supposed to get it, . . . or like it. definitely not music for the stupid man. . . that was the cure.

  • truly one of the most fascinating men I have ever seen...i love it when they zoom in on him standing near the bed and looking at you. . ..unreal.

  • 2:16 ...

  • If this were my video, it would zoom out from me all staring like that to her changing in the locker room and all screaming and trying to cover herself up.

  • Pretty much if this were my video, it would just be this girl changing.

  • The Cure at their very best! This is the song and video that won me over. I've been dressing and wearing my hair like Robert for years now.

(For the record: I was 12 when I heard them first, and I am now 17)

  • Ojala algun dia vengan a Chile o sudamerica!!

  • Glad to see there are those of us who truly love this song. Of all the great Cure songs this is my #1.

  • After hearing about the book based on the this song, the music video actually slightly makes sense to me....

  • 0:58

    'Sup.

  • this is from 81 not 93?

  • The best Cure song.

  • vey dark

  • LOUE

  • me siento extraño cuando escucho esta canción !!!!

  • I think this is my favorite Cure single, if not definitely the best video!!

  • I know her face are familier, but I can't make up my mind where from...

  • mmm lovely song and look at the symbolism in it !

  • best fucking band ever!!!!!!!

  • a lot of time without listen up...nice song

  • Does the chick have gas or something? I don't get it.

  • youre funny

  • Magnifique

  • Absolutely bloody brilliant song. Takes me back twenty years. Robert Smith looks like a boy.

  • This song is amazing... I love it so much - one of my favorite Cure songs of all time...

  • yea me2

  • Ok I fucking loooove the song, but can anyone explain it to me a little ??? THANKS

  • This is based on the book Charlotte Sometimes. Charlotte is going to a boarding school in 1969 England, and is switched with Clare, who is attends the same boarding school, only in 1918. The two girls' bed acts as a portal between the two years. Only every other night are the girls in the time they were originally in. Charlotte and Clare never met, but they kept a diary as means of communication.

Sorry, I think I got a little carried away, but does that help understand the meaning of the song?

  • I guess, so it's from a story ha? interesting...what other bands play music like this, you know, kinda dark????

  • Well, other stuff that is sort of like this that I personally love and you might want to check out are the bands Bauhaus and Joy Division. Siouxsie and the Banshees is pretty awesome too. Well, they're not really "dark," but they're different and their music is mesmerizing. Night Shift by them is one of my favourites.

  • bauhaus is good. i have 2 of their albums: burning from the inside and Go away white. slice of life is good and i like shes in parties. I dont really like joy division that much. Thats a good way to put siouxsie and the banshees they are mesmerizing great. Have you heard the Black Angels? They are pretty good. I have a cd called directions to see a ghost its trippy good. ha.

  • Favorite early goth/darkwave bands have to be The Cure, Siouxsie, Bauhaus, Christian Death, Alien Sex Fiend, Virgin Prunes, Danse Society, and Sex Gang Children. They fall into other genres, but I think they each helped form Goth Rock into a legitimate, unique genre.

  • into the light......

  • This song is just toooo gooood <3

  • this is DARK DARK DARK , isnt it????

  • The Cure has to be one of THE best bands of all time.

  • they arent the best but my favorite

  • adore this song

  • I've never seen this before. It's simple, yet beautiful and complex. Faith is probably their best album.

  • I'm named after this song. <3 It :)

  • you're lucky - it's an amazing song!

  • Thanks. My dad had a dream that he had me, and he heard this song. " I'm Dreaming Charlotte Sometimes" I'm chuffed i found it. only came across it like a month ago and then found out. i listen to it everyday now xD

  • Uhh,, Yes I Am. I'm Free To Comment On What Ever Video I Like. You cant Say I'm Not, Coz Thankfully You Dont Know Me, Therefore Dont Know. This Music Is NOT Beyond Me, Ive Been Listening To This Type Of Music Forever. Go Get A Life :/

  • why would you make that comment to that girl like that? Whether she made it up or not why do you feel its necessary to put somebody down for no reason? People like you are whats wrong with society.

  • "you're." Please learn 3rd-grade grammar before attempting to insult people.

  • me too!

  • loved this song for years and this is the first time i've seen the video. brilliant!!

  • This was the song that first got me into the Cure twenty-seven years ago, and this is the first time I've ever seen the video. In those pre-MTV and internet days it probably wasn't aired very often.

  • one of my favorites song's ever .

  • burning down hot topic

  • Its certainly

To much money time and energy means I am a happy hermit. Maturity is a sign of respect, jealousy is for little girls.

  • This is far one of the mot romantic and decadent songs of The Cure. I really love these keyboards, this vanishing voice that is like a lament.

  • never saw the vid, nice

  • como flasheaba con está canción...claro hace por lo menos 20 años...los chicos ya se vestían de negro, pero roberto ya empezaba a ver una moneda, ya no usaba tiradores porque empezo a comer algo y ya no se le caían los pantalones...

  • hard to believe this video is 25 years old, and got censored due to things in the last couple of years, you all do not know what you are talking about, carry on talking, talking, talking, empty air

  • i loved the book this song was based on

  • my favorite is at 2:37 the lyric "come to me scared princess" very romantic, always loved that little change there

  • 4:03 - The girl is scared......or laughing? :-D

  • I was obseesed with this song/video when it came out. I looped it for a full 45 min tape and would listen to it as I wrote. Now years later I still think it holds up - a great little ghost story!

  • I love it how all the members of the band are standing there staring at her, and apparently, she can't see them. Gives me a spooky, but understanding feeling.

  • Oh God. This is my favourite song of all time! How come it's only the Deluxe Edition of Faith which has it? :(

  • The compilation album "Standing on a Beach/Staring at the Sea" has it, as well.

  • You wish you could as go as Mr. Smith! geek

  • The cure Is one of the best!

  • "All the faces , all the voices blur"

Yeah but not your bank account.

  • When they created this song their bank account was probably close to zero ;)

  • Got a name for

    Charlotte

    Sometimes i am dreaming

  • VERY NICE SONG ...UFFF

  • why would she even go to school there?!

  • haha

    that's hilarious

  • Goth or emo isnt the problem! The people who use such designations r the problem. In the late 80's I was considered a punk or mod due to my my teased dyed black hairstyle and my choice in music. Music is music and however u choose to experience is your own way. Teased hair or choice in all black clothing is an individual thing. U r who u r and who cares about the people who label u.

  • es mui bonito el video i la kncion =

esta kncion es una obra d the cure xd

  • im named after this song. haha

  • I wish I was born earlier so I could've actually been around when music like this was coming out.

I was born in 86, and most of my generation's music sucks.

  • I've heard this said about the Beatles. Don't say you wish you were born when this came out, say you're glad you didn't die before it came out.

  • I totally agree with you Brilobite ... this music has been lost to the latest generation, who have been brainwashed into thinking their music is "it" ... yet the crap coming out now is almost identical to the crap of the disco era. With the exception of Linkin Park, I don't think there are any good bands around now. Bring on the Cure!!!!!

  • Hey, I despise the crap that most of my generation has produced, all the good music came out at least a few years before I was born. I wish I was born in the early 70s, cause then I would have been old enough to appreciate music like this when it was produced. I hate modern music

  • Comment removed

  • Simon Gallup looks so cool in this vid.

  • the first time i heard the term emo was in emocore, pertaining to a genre of hardcore music such as the band lifetime and then all these little kids created another meaning for it all together... oh well, interesting view of the world being old, the cure have nothing to do with your strange emo class of crap music that is created today, they were who they were and expressed a raw emotion that few bands ever could or can

  • Robert Smith is right in that this really is a bad video for a brilliant song. The Cure have some standout videos over the years -- Lullaby - Close To Me - The Walk -this is not one of them. Great song though.

  • ok my mistake

  • this came out in 1981 right

  • October 1981, but I acquired it as a 7" single with Pornography when that album was issued on vinyl in 1982

  • jesus, doesnt take much to confuse people does it. ironically im sure the cure paved the way for emo to be the force it is thesedays.

  • it stood for? Can you explain to me what is emo because you say it stood for? what it stood the emo

do you believe this shit emo exist inthe 80s

    μαλακας εισαι η μου φαινεται?

  • One user (lifeisgood1013) said: "the cure released their best work in the early 80s imo", in which "imo" means "in my (his) opinion". You have somehow mistaken it for emo, which is (supposed to be) a new "genre"...

  • Idon't think anyone really knows what "emo" is, all I know is that I hate being called one, goths are so much better

  • Robert Smith said, that this is the worst video they ever made. I wonder, why... imho it's much better than i. e. Let's go to bed.

  • cure is a new wave band not imo, imo doesnt exist in the 80s

  • Can you tell me what is imo? I thought it stood for "in my opinion"...

  • Brilliant song

  • I used to live near Buffalo, and the cure was in toronto , somewhere in canada, idk and i was going to randomly drive to canada and try to find their show, but i didnt make it and i still regret not trying, i will remember that when i am old and nasty, unless i get to see them, so please go on tour again!!!!

  • man their earlier stuff was sooo much better.

  • yeah, the cure released their best work in the early 80s imo, though their other work is good too.

  • cure is new wave not an imo the imo doesnt exist in the 80s

  • Sometimes I dream, sometimes I dreammm

  • I thank you from the deepest of my heart for all these wonderful moments that you've given me, all those feelings you awaken.... you entertain and touch my soul in a uniqe way

  • Près de 30 ans après, cette chanson est toujours aussi envoûtante.

  • Great song , one best from The Cure

  • i love this song

    the cure is the best!

  • anyone know of any good websites that have a good discography of The Cure? like names and dates and stuff? love this vid! i want that hair., grrrr jealous...........

  • Go to The Cure's offcial website and you'll find everything there.

  • SMITH,TOLHURST AND GALLUP....i wish they got back together again...

  • Actually Smith and Gallup are back together in the group, except Tolhurst who is now making music with his wife.

  • The Charlotte Somtimes video was released on "Staring at the Sea-The Images" VHS 1986. The song, 1981. "Staring at the Sea" is out of production and was never released on DVD. (But thank god for DVD recorders) The song Charlotte Sometimes is based on Charlotte Sometimes, a children's novel by Penelope Farmer, published in 1969. If you've seen the album cover to the single, it's a distorted picture of Mary, Robert Smith's Wife.

  • The Cure is my only obsession.

    I'll never feel more fulfilled

  • the cure are my only true obsession to

    they are so amazing :)

  • Ni el video, ni la canción son de 1993/ video and song either are from 1993 .... all are from 1981.... Estos de universal estan estupidos.... =S

  • One of my all-time favorites. I love how gloomy and haunting this song is and it reminds me of a dream.

  • Charlotte is eerily hot.

  • Chralotte Bronte?

  • from a book with the same title

  • ahhhhhh... one of the best cure songs ever written... still gives me chills....

  • hell yeah def dark club hit

  • what year was this song? i swear i heard it before 1993. or is being 32 that old already?

  • According to Amazon Music:

Original Release Date: August 31, 1981

I'd say maybe its the video that came out in 93, but The video has that early 80's feel to it feels too. (Particularity the Red Sky effect,)

  • The video was definitely made before '93. You can tell what year it is by the size of Robert and Simon's hair and what the makeup situation is. This would be circa 1981.

  • The song and video both came out in 1981.

  • 1981 b-side

  • i don't care about english but just the girl for me

  • This is absolutelly one of the greatest songs ever written. The song itself has such a haunting melody and the music video is very evocative. I have never read the book the song is based off but I have wanted to for a while now. I wish the cure would write something this amazing again.

  • you can totally see robert experimenting with his own image in this video. probably wasn't a year later until he looked like the robert smith we all recognise.

  • memories rush in.....

  • do any of you all know if they sell there video's? or where i can download?

  • Awesome video, everything the cure does rocks, they're tireless!!
