It should be renamed the Box of Really Really Heavy Rock. It's not a metal pedal AT ALL! Go get yourself a MXR Fullbore Metal, I played it through my dads Deluxe Reverb and it made it sound insane
mesa boogie is far from being perfect. Its a great amp but there is no balance between the super nice distortion Vs the weak clean. Twins have a really nice clean but weak distortion... Ive had 7 tube amps and played on many more but still havent find a perfect amp to be honest. Its all about personal taste though
after listening to this video over and over again, the Box of Metal sounds liek Shit on the Twin, its FUZZY and static like. im glad i didnt buy this shit.
what are you talking about? fender twins are great with fuzz pedals. I have a fender twin, an orange rockerverb a Mesa boogie MArk III and a Marshall Jcm 2000 and let me tell you that whoever told you that fenders are not good for metal, they are talking about the amp itself, not the way it interacts with stomp boxes. Plus, this demo sounded pretty good right?
@danicgibson Sure it sounds good, but in my experience Fenders are best kept clean or maybe pushed into a little natural overdrive. If you cant afford a Mesa then theres a reason why Marshalls form the bedrock of Hardrock and Metal.
@3rdIDCallaghan dude you could not be any more wrong. amps like a fender take pedals better than marshalls. besides the amount of gain an amp has has absolultely nothing to do with what kind of music it can be used for when you factor in pedals
@ihavenoname93 I could not be more wrong? Coming from the guy who said 'like a fender take pedals better than marshalls'. For one, this is a stupid generalisation as it depends almost entirely on the exact pedal you are talking about. I stand by what I said, Fenders are voiced for articulate high end for the most part and are valved for this, Marshalls are traditionally higher gain and voiced to handle even greater input gain, their valves require more juice, that is proof enough.
Maybe its the headphones I am wearing (which really boost the high treble), but the Mesa seems to have less treble but sounds like a tube. The BOR has too much treble and the distortions sounds a little rough, jagged like solid state clipping often does.
That has to be the most god awful metal tone I have ever heard in my life. All you old motherfuckers put up videos of metal tones and gadgets n shit, LEARN TO EQ
I'm a little better than that. James Root of Slipknot DOES use a Telecaster but it's a custom with EMG pick-ups put in it, James Root would never get any great metal tone with an ordinary Tele. And yeah I don't think Les Pauls are INCAPABLE of playing metal, i just hate seeins Les Pauls everywhere i go, and i personally they could use a more metal guitar for this demonstration. I still love Les Pauls, but hell for this kind of pedal I would get some freaking Jackson/Dean/ESP/Ibanez/Shecter.
chect out blackstar distortion x

Could this make my lonestar sound like a rectifier? I think it will atleast have more low end on it than on the twin.
drmsgtrplayer 2 years ago
if you want mesa, buy Sansamp Classic, GT, or some Mesa tube distortion.

The Mesa wins, much more ROAR!

Also, the Box of Metal really has this nasty fizzy high end. Such a shame.
DemoColorScheme 2 years ago
That could be the EQ on the twin giving it more high end.
kashphlinktu 2 years ago
Or the speakers, which I can imagine. Nevertheless, that still makes the Dual Rec. pwn it.

idiots - they cant compare a pedal to a mesa and then expect people to buy it.
mesa\boogie is perfectness.

Dont use a fender amp for this kind of music. Bad way to demo a metal pedal. Stick it through a 100w marshall for a good comparison.
3rdIDCallaghan 2 years ago
yeah, this demo is kind deceiving, the Mesa overpowers the tone from the Twin and i didnt notice it at first.
but im sure this pedal is great when used the right way!

ZVEX ROCK! You just have to have the right taste.
might be expensive, but that's why they made VEXTER series for their pedals.

blade, that's the point of using a metal pedal, for when you have something like a les paul and a fender, but want mesa metal tones.
right?

no its for when your amp sucks dick, or you just like the sound of pedals more

Why is he using a god dam les paul for a METAL demo? hate it when people think les paul is good for everything.

Hey man, where on the site are these sample clips?? i cant seem to find it!!
Also, is the Box of Metal TWIN and Box of Metal AC30 different pedals??
how is it that they were able to combine both sounds with 1 output? or was it recoreded over?
And if i get a Box of Metal AC30, how do i switch between the AC30 and Mesa Rect? or is it controlled using the Given EQ
THANKS :D
