One can also try these on a Stability Ball (I am not a fan of the SB but with high rep exercises I think it is okay to use once in a while).
It becomes more challenging when you try and flex the one hip to complete 90 degrees and hold the isometric contraction for 30-40 seconds. There is a significant need for the obliques and other stabilizers of the hip to fire to keep the pelvis neutral in all planes.
I do these when I have a stuck fart...
