  • @themoshmenace Or let is her hair down lol, I don't get that either, makes no sense???

  • Loved this tho I was just a kid when I first heard it.

  • Great stuff. I have this on 45 but my brother stuffed it years again and this is the first time I've heard it in stereo & and scratch free.

  • Bought this in the 60's...Love it still

  • Nice song. It takes me back to 1969 when it first came out. A great time in my life, thanks for posting it.

  • wasn't this used as a Clairol commercial at one time?

  • Some more trivia: This song was written by Paul Vance and Leon Carr. Vance is probably most well known for Brian Hyland's "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka-Dotted Bikini", "Playground In My Mind" by Clint Holmes, and "Tracy" by the Cuff Links (and Ron Dante, who went on to write and sing most of the Archies' big hits). Carr was primarily a commerical jingle writer ("Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut", "See the U.S.A in your Chevrolet") and pop hits mostly before the rock'n'roll era.

  • do you think Willow got some inspiration from this?

  • I hear this and I feel young.

  • The Queentons Are Famous Musicians with their Hit Single "She Let's Her Hair Down". The Song Took 3:07 seconds On That Track.

  • Great Song By The Tokens. The Queentons are famous Musicians From The 1960's and 70's. "She Let's Her Hair Down" realeased in Early 1969 By The Queentons.

  • First time I've heard this song in over 40 years. Sure it's the Tokens performing it but it sounds kinda like the four seasons. I recall the shampoo comercials on TV back then using this song. Yes it brings back some fine childhood memories. It's a wonder this song didn't become a classic. Thank you very much for posting this song garageband66

  • one of my favourites in 3rd grade. Thanks!

  • I bought the record. I liked it ..and still do.

  • why is it that a fantastic voice, such as Jay Siegels, comes along only a few times in a life time? Its not fair lol. thanks garageband66 for these great Token songs

  • I grew up in the 1950s an 1960s era the music was nothing like todays music at all , it was clean no cursing at all an i remember the lion sleeps tonight well.It was a great song music of yesterday may be gone but never forgotten at all! may he rest in peace

  • Gene Pitney Did this too. I believe the Gene Pitney version was used in a Hair Add.

    Great Song

Thank you For this wonderful Listing.

  • A classic late 60's song ... Tokens were sensational and a real hidden treasure

  • HERMOSA CANCION

  • How could anyone, the single disenting vote, vote this down. This is such a ckassic!

    Joseoh F

  • Interesting song :-)

  • I was a little kid when those Breck commercials ran, and they made me buy Don Young's wonderful record. I'd love to see the commercial again with the music, but haven't found it on youtube yet. If anyone finds it, please send me a note. Thanks :)

  • Thanks so much for posting this song! What great memories! I remember the commercial so well from when I was 10 years old! Again, thanks - it brought tears to my eyes!

  • Thank you so much for posting this song! It brings back such good memories! Thanks again!

  • Hard to believe that it's literally 40 years to the day since this great record was released. It should have been a far bigger hit. 1970 had some great tunes.

  • Sexy and romantic.

  • i had long blonde hair and was about 14... now i'm 54 and all my life i wondered what song that was that i used to like...and today i finally found out. Hadn't heard it since then, in thunder bay, ont., canada

  • Glad you found it.

    Thanks for checking it out.

  • @lucinagorizia Original by Don Young. Try that one out. Early 70's

  • @blueishere1999 I prefer the tokens, but thanks anyway

  • @lucinagorizia I want to recommend you the version that recorded Bobby Sherman. It is better than this although The Tokens are brilliant voces.Bobby Sherman recorded the same song in 1973 or 1972. It became a hit in my country Venezuela, but in USA was not.

  • anyone have a copy of the Tokens singing " Red Corvette " ? not the song made popular in the late 80's - early 90's ... really good song

  • All the Tokens music is wonderfull

  • I bought this song in the 1960's and I still love it. Still very clear and just great.

  • I got a copy of the Gene Pitney version on e-bay. I love it.

  • It was made for a shampoo commercial, but I love this beautiful doowop song, Awesome group too.

  • the tokens!esses caras são o máximo!Adoro!

  • bert kaempfert wrote the song originally his version is great also but this i absolutely love thanks 4posting it

  • The Tokens were a DooWop Awesome Group. This is a beautiful song!

  • The only song I know that uses a slinky as a musical instrument. Listen closely and you'll hear it.

  • Not many people know that; you sure like your trivia.

  • sweet face.

  • Damn ... now I'm on a TOKENS roll ... just left "TRUMPETS" to come here .... I almost forgot how good this group was !

(next stop .... "THE LION", of course!)

  • But of course.

  • Don`t forget "Please Write","Come and dance with me" 'When I go to sleep at night"",Portrait of my love",and "Tonight I fell in love"all excellent songs, in addition to this song and "The Lion sleeps tonight"

  • @raiderdan05 feite fruktfat!

  • "She Let Her Hair Down" was a song by

The Queentons in The Late 1960s,

But In 1985 or 1986, The Tokens went

To America th Interview lots of people.

  • Who are the Queentons?

Also, I don't understand your comment about 1985 or 1986 "the Tokens went to America". The Tokens are from America.

  • High school all over again..havent heard this in ages...great!

  • Those were the days.

  • Doo-Wop, The Grandaddy of Hip-Hop, but they cant top the originals, Doo-Wop Wins!!!

  • The originals are always the best.

  • Good Song by the Tokens, luv it!

  • The commercials were not so bad either as I recall.

  • love the video, very nice clips, who ever the girl is she is so beautiful!! oh I forgot about the song LOL! it's great!! the tokens all most sound like the foure seasons...

  • The Tokens I think may have preceeded the Four Seasons but so many of those east coast groups had that sound coming out of the Doo-Wop era.

All of those girls in that video are keepers in my opinion.

  • I agree 100%

  • This was a great song for the hair commercial...i think it was Herbal Essance Shampoo and also for a Hair Color ...something like L'oreal ...cuz you are worth it with She lets her hair down in the back ground....and Herbal Essance Shampoo...love this song

  • OMG!! I haven't heard this in maybe thirty five years!! I actually forgot about it!!It still sounds fabulous! Thanks for posting!!!:-)

  • Thirty-five years. Where does the time go?

  • awesome

  • This was a Hair Care Add I remember the Girls hair was beautiful and very long.If I remember right She Had Jane Seymour Hair Or Kathrine Ross Hair.

Gene Phitney did this song also Gene Pitney RIP

  • Yes, I keep asking for the Gene Pitney version perhaps it will show eventually on the tube.

Katherine Ross and Jane Seymour, definately Breck Girl material.

  • I have it posted on my channel but you might have already seen it by now. I agree about the girls with the long hair!

  • Just saw it. You did a great job. My wife recently cut her hair so short hair has its merits too.

  • Thank you!

  • Have them both. Can't make up my mind which I like better. I might give Pitney the edge but they both come across priceless. Maybe my favorite song.

    Thanks.

  • Pitney's would be a good listen to have on the tube. Any chance on you getting that up?

  • jimandconnie, I should have read your comment before opening up my mouth!! but thanks for the info.

  • No problem. I've done the same thing. You might be able to find the CD of Tokens Greatest Hits through Amazon, etc. The LP came out in the early 70's, but I'm sure the LP would be impossible to find. (Wish I still had my copy).

  • i have searched for years for this record--I know its locked away somewhere. wasnt this tune used for a shampoo commercial in the early seventies as well?? anyone know? Herbal essence, I think when you only had one choice--to buy it green.

  • you are right!! I looked for this song too....I was a little kid like 12 years old...I always liked the song...thanks

  • glad to do it! My first girlfriend in middle school, had the longest, shiniest, black hair (kind of like Winnie Cooper on the Wonder Years) and everytime I hear the song, it takes me back to those days when just holding a girl's hand was a "big thing'.

  • holding hands is still a big thing!

  • My wife and I still do it all the time.

  • Did Gene Pitney do a version of "She Lets Her Hair Down?"

  • His last chart entry in America was "She's a Heartbreaker" in 1968. He covered this song I do not know the year of its release but it is on Gene Pitney The Great Recordings a 2 CD set. In fact, his last UK hit was in the 80's on a duet with Marc Almond from Soft Cell. As I recall, it was a remake of one of Gene's older hits.

  • Actually, Gene Pitney's version of "She lets Her Hair Down (early in the Morning)" was his final chart entry. It charted at the same time as the tokens' version. It peaked at number 93 on January 3, 1970. The Tokens' version peaked at number 61 the next week.

  • Great song, taken from a Clairol commercial, circa 1970. Loved the pic of Jaclyn Smith at the end, too. She's still the standard against which all females are measured.

  • has a little bit of that Beach Boy background sound (thats ok with me).

  • They did a great cover of "Don't Worry Baby" shortly after this release.

  • Good Song...good choice of pics for the song...Thanks!

  • Your welcome and thank you for the nice comments.

  • thank you so much, I loved this song-came out when I was in 3rd grade-great find!!

  • very nice video and music

  • Thank you and like the screen name by the way!

  • Great collection of photos you've included with this great track. Hank Medress, lead singer of the Tokens, passed away just last summer.

  • Thank you for the comment; and the world has lost another great vocalist from a great band. That's why I like to try and keep this stuff alive.

  • Thanks for posting, terrific song.

Actually Hank Medress was a key member and co-founder of the Tokens, and he's missed. But he wasn't the lead singer... that IS (stress IS because he's still going strong) Jay Siegel. Jay is in his late 60's but still sounds like he did 35 years ago! And singing these and other tunes with his God-given great voice. Sing on, Jay!

  • Thanks for setting us straight on that, Mike. Good to hear Jay is going strong. We're losing so many of our favorite artists lately. This song is still the only recording I've ever heard that uses a slinky as a musical instrument.

  • Thanks. There is a terrific video on youtube of the group in 2006 singing "Lion Sleeps Tonight" for I believe a PBS special. Check it out and you'll be amazed at how the group (I think now having 2 of 4 originals (not including Neil Sedaka, who left the group before their hits) sounds much sharper than average for their ages.

I always loved this song, probably my first loved hit as a kid. In fact I went into the music biz due to this song in many ways!

  • I enjoy watching those PBS specials with the Doo-Wop groups! I saw one of the last performances of one of Spanky and Our Gang and one of its members was actually sitting on a chair and looked very feeble on stage. I read somewhere shortly after he had passed.

  • Probably Oz Bach, d. 1998 of cancer. SAOG lost 2 other members while in their prime, one in 1968 and one in 1971. I also love "Like To Get To Know You" and there's a good video hopefully still on YouTube of it. Incedentally, Spanky was not related to the Our Gang Spanky (popular misrumor). Their last names are similar but not exact and her name came from a band member who said she resembled him... but no direct relation.

  • I think that was the guy!

I marvel at how those Italian guys that sang in those doo wop groups still have not aged that much. I saw the Duprees on one of those fund raiser programs and those guys can still harmonize and sound as fresh as they did back in the day.

  • None of the original Duprees is with the group. In fact, two are dead, including the original lead singer.

  • Wow! I wasn't aware of that. How did these guys become The Duprees?

  • I was responding to someone who mentioned the Duprees.

  • Actually, it was you who mentioned the Duprees: "I saw the Duprees on one of those fund raiser programs and those guys can still harmonize and sound as fresh as they did back in the day."

  • Yes I know that I mentioned the Duprees. I was asking how did the replacement guys become the Duprees? Was it something like the Drifters where someone owned the rights to the name and kept bringing in new vocies (usually to keep from giving the performers a bigger share of the royalties) through the years. I was wondering if you knew.

  • First, I stand corrected. Three of the original Duprees are dead. The fourth has his own group. Check out their page in Wikipedia for the whole story.

  • Hi dllewiszz, I am glad to hear someone else comment on the Slinky in this tune! Although, I have a friend who says it is not a Slinky, but rather a percussive instrument. He cannot recall the actual name of it. This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I'm blessed to have this in STEREO on a various artists CD entitled "Sunshine Days Vol. 4". I would share some of my stuff, but as soon as I upload, within minutes I get emails from YouTube advising me that a copyright claim has been filed.

  • I really like this song! It brings back many memories of flower children and carefree, happy times. Thanks!

  • My pleasure!
