Even though this is from a few years earlier this really brings back loads of memories from living in Boldon in the late 70's and 80's. St Nicholas' church, Robson's newsagents where I had a paper round, Marie's hairdressers, Freddies barbers opposite the Yangzee River, station burn and best of all seeing the pit still standing. Last time I was up there I hardly recognised the place, this is just how I remember it though.
OMG whoever posted this THANK YOU I had no idea it even existed, and haven't seen my Nanna Marriott since I was about 10. I am the little girl skipping about in the delightful yellow dress, I must have been about 4yrs old, and that is my parents Ruth and Barry Marriott/Young, and my Nanna, in front of her shop. What a lovely piece of history. Thanks I will treasure it. I'm Tiffany Young, the grandaughter of the older lady who was my Nanna Marriott, don't know her 1st name.
I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed it and thanks for your comments and names of the people present. I shall mention it at the next meeting of the Boldons History Society.
Didn't have space to say I think the section with me in it, from 3.25mins was probably taken around about 1972. My dad was born Barry Marriott, Stan was his dad, who died in the 2nd world war, Myra was his mum. Would love to know who shot the film, and how they fit into it all? Possibly one of the Marriott brothers, as that was the backyard of the shop, I think.
Gord! i almost forgot about the old signal box. And all the fields..its not like that anymore. Boldon didnt look that much different to this when i was kid up in the 70's and 80's.
Class, the streets used to reverb to the sound of kids practising there kazoo's in summer.
the pit! the yangzee river! the burn! i used to live on inverness rd right near the old station...thanx for the memories my friend! tears to my eyes like! GREAT!
