Love the video and so glad I stumbled upon you today Ms Daphne! Will check out your web site and how I found you was an email in my inbox. My lucky day:) Great video clip here.
I, too, was a little non-plused at the "3:24" I saw going in to this piece. But the writing and production, not to mention the musical background, is superb. The flow carried my attention with little effort on my part. The 3:24 was over before I knew it. So I played it again. And again.

Great video, Daphne. I'm like you - the only time presently that I LOVE writing is when I am in the throes of creation...with the writing flowing smoothly and fast. I admire how you have persevered and turned things around for yourself...and yeah, I'm a born editor too.
Great music as well. I predict a fulfilling career for your son.
It's encouraging to know that you had the same struggles with writing that many of us beginners have. And great vid demonstrating that, too.
I didn't find the video too long, because while it contains useful information that you'd normally want to skim through, this was more of a soothing, creative angle telling a story. A combination of art and information--very original.
I loved it! Just what I needed to hear. I'm the same as you were, good at editing, but the writing is hard. And I do totally believe you when you say it's the thinking that's hard.
This is a wonderful video! Some of my Honors College students are very intimidated at the thought of writing their final report. So I'll be sending the link to this video to them. :)
Not bad for a first timer. It did hold my attention. A reader from 8/2006. ( I can't believing I have read your newsletter that long. It must be good.)
@97tvrtle Thanks for the compliments! We will probably try to do these videos a couple of times a year. There's always a learning-curve with something new so I expect we'll get better at it over time. -daphne
Great video! It inspired me on a late night of writing. I too has to discover how to love writing, even though I always wanted to do it for a career. You reminded me of all that. Your sons work is wonderful too!
@gg2005 - Thanks for your comments. Yes, there is a big difference between wanting to write for a career and actually LIKING the task! I'm convinced that many of us are led astray by the bad teaching of writing in school.... -daphne
@gamma68 - I adore Dorothy Parker's writing but I disagree with her comment. It somehow suggests that it's OK to dislike writing. It's not! Writing should be enjoyable. Yes, it can be tough work, sometimes. But not ALL the time! -daphne
You're right -- that's one of my goals, to make writing more fun! By the way, I love your e-newsletter. It's always inspiring and provides great ideas.
I'm impressed by 33 comments about your video in a day. My friend Beryl is a published author, and I'm happy to see she tuned in. As for the video itself, the pace was good, and the background music just right.
What a great snapshot of the writing process. The idea of writing with the screen off both invigorates and frightens me.I make so many typing mistakes that I'm not certain I'd understand what I'd written but by golly, I'm going to give it a whirl. I've post this to my facebook account.
If something scares you, you should definitely try it! :-) Try looking at your fingers while you type instead of looking at the (blank) screen! The screen-off technique is amazing....
Daphne, sleek and succint composition. Its a valuable pedagogical resource for me as I am a writing tutor at the university and will refer my students to this inspirational narrative.
Love your adjectives! I'm flattered that you would call this sleek! Makes me feel like a sports car! I appreciate you passing this along to your students, too. -daphne
Thanks, Daphne, This video is a valuable resource for me. I am a part-time professional writing tutor and will recommend it to my students so that they may be motivated by your personal narrative of how you overcame your writing fears by leaps and bounds.Kudos to both you and your son for the succint and sophisticated composition.
Thank you for this gift of insight gained through your experience. The "thinking" IS the hardest part of writing; often made more difficult by supers who don't appreciate the origins of fluent writing.
Leslie, you and your son have made a winning project. I did enjoy watching it and its points were not new to me as I have your book and read your weekly thoughts as well, but they still ring true. I agree that I read too fast at times and could have kept up with a quicker pace. Good job, well done. Marian
No problem. My parents almost called me Leslie. (Seriously! I am not making this up!) I just think you have ESP. Thanks for taking the trouble to write. -daphne
Glad you enjoyed it! Another trick to inspire you to write is to read something short but well written. Brief essays or magazine articles are good for this! -daphne
I love the message and the images and I think more people would get the full effect if you cut each slide time to a third of the current length. Watching on YouTube, we can pause or go back if we miss something, but for someone who reads quickly it was a long slog to sit for three minutes. I think it could be closer to one to one and a half minutes.

Thanks for the feedback. As Duncan indicates below, we had MANY discussions about this point. I'm sorry we appear to have gotten it wrong. It was our first-ever video so we will be more conscious of this point next time. Thanks for writing. -daphne
