@MrJayblaze23 , Yes, however Windows XP home and Windows XP PRO have a nice configuration page. You can use this with other operating systems but you may have different rules to follow to make it work.
thank you for your reply. this didn't work, but its not too big of a deal. i have a new question, i will post it as a comment aswell to give you more comments.
i have got the remote desktop working on a local network with the help from your video's. when i try from a different network (from my home to my work comp.) it doesn't connect. the work pc is an "XP" op. system, and i got two pc's at home, "Vista" and "7".
You will need to setup the router correctly to port forward. This is all different depending on which system you use. For my system, I just log into my gateway and set the PC I wish to use over RDC as a DMZ host so my external IP links to my internal IP.
how can i print something from the target computer to the printer thats connected to the computer im actually using??? rather to the printer connected to the target pc?
On the client machine on the RDC startup screen, under "Local Resources", select the option to transfer over "Printers" or "Serial Ports" or "Disk Drives".
I run the remote desktope connection, but i only see text box for computer name there is no text box for IP address, even i checked the option: how do i connect without it?
That doesn't sound right. You won't be able to connect with just the computer name. I am using Windows XP Pro and when I open the program up, I only see the computer name entry. I see four buttons below this text box and one of them has the caption of "Options>>". When I click on the "Options>>" button, I now see all the other entries for connecting such as username, password and domain. If you can't see it, let me know which version of windows your using.
Try typing the IP address of the computer you are trying to reach into the "Computer" text box and connecting. Once connection is established, it should ask you for a username and password. Another thing you can try doing is entering the IP address into the "Computer" text box, and entering the Username into the "User Name" text box and try pressing connect. This should all work out as long as you get that IP address into the "Computer" text box. Let me know.
Hey Jeffrey. By default, you should only see "Computer" and and some cases "Username". Click on the "Options>>" button at the bottom right hand of your screen to show the password and domain text box.
so lets say im at school i go to remote desktop my laptop is on i have put in my ip using CMD and it dosent work was that the right way or was i sapuosed to use the ipmonkey ip???
Use your external IP address which is found on ipmonkey or in your router's settings. The IP address you need is your external, not internal. If you use IPCONFIG in the Command Prompt, that will only give you your local IP address.
If your IP address is a 192.16.1.x or something similar, that is your local networks IP address which will never work if you are outside of your network.
i did it..!!
but everytime i try to login, the Target machine is logged off,...
how to make target machine stay log on when i logging in ?

@mom0g1 , when using RDP, you can't auto login like you are talking about. RDP requires you to login every single time you connect up to it.
