This guys is a complete moron. Thaksin won 3 elections in a landslide but the Thailand rich elite didn't like the fact their guy didn't win. Its really not that much more complicated than that. If you keep throwing out election results you get unrest. Plain and simple. Thaksin did more for Thailand's impoverished than any other politician before him. If they hate Thaksin so much they should try coming up with policies to defeat him rather than paying off the crooked Thai courts.

Prof Young is probably right on the Thai issues although he expresses so much negativity on Thaksin that his comments can't be viewed as neutral. But I have to say he is wrong on his comment about the rise of communism in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. It started in Vietnam because of all the foreign invasions such as the French and later the US. Communism offered them independence and the people fought hard for it. The US bombings in Cambodia started another communism called Khmer Rouge.

As much as I want to believe everything this professor has said, many of his comments raise many red flags. I wonder if all his publications have diligently been reviewed since not many in the Western worlds are experts in SE Asia study.
