  • PRINCESS MONONOKE CAME OUT IN 1997 DUDE !

    JESUS !!!

GET YOUR FUCKING FACTS RIGHT !

  • UMMMM ANIME CAN BE TRACED TO 1916 !!

  • hey! i know my short documentary sucks! it was for a college class many years ago. it was either this or write some horribly long term paper.

  • holy shit my eyes shinshan please put on under wear

  • did you really have to have the akira soundtrack during your bit on shinchan? it really didn't fit at all

  • damn... pretty damn good job for a youtube video

  • When it comes to story lines, Anime is more diverse and can capture a wider audience. When it comes to quality and not cutting corners American Animation takes the crown. Those who screen one is better than the other probably can't draw any better than a stick figure and are talking out their ass.

  • Thanx

  • in Australia we don't have adult swim, and in Tasmania we don't have any anime except for pokemon, DBZ and other shows like that, its horrible,

BRING BACK ADULT SWIM CARTOON NET WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Japanese animation, video games and technology are far more superior than American.

  • yay bleach is first

  • Well in my country, public tv transmitted Astro Boy, Mach gogogo, Tesujin 28 and many others since the 70s.

  • Very well done! (though like the others have said, you should have talked about more anime)

  • I dont see this kinda animations here in the USA...I only see simple characters. Excluding CGI...

  • Anime is our culture in the Philippines.

Not those bad Mexico dramas because it's

dirty and bad scene. Because Mexico bad dramas

is very bad for kids. Anime is good for kids

  • you forgot to metion toonami's and dbz's influce oh well

  • western people really don't like to accept other culture

  • to be a man you must have honor honor and a penis woa wooo woaaa ohhh woook. LOL

  • awesome work, man. I like how you used akira's music in the background. that OVA still gives me chills whe nI watch it.

  • Interesting, but I think Pokemon deserves at least a mention, It was (and still kinda is) ridiculously popular, and introduced much my generation as kids to anime. Also I think Disney's distribution of Studio Ghibli's films is a big thing.

  • Pretty interesting and well-done video, apart from the inordinate amount of focus on Shin-Chan - you spent more time on that than Akira, Princess Mononoke and Ghost in the Shell, all of which had far, far greater influence in the West, and to not mention Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z or Pokemon seems like a pretty glaring omission when talking about the history of anime in the West. Even in the realm of Adult Swim shows, Cowboy Bebop, FLCL or Inuyasha seem like far better topics than Shin-chan.

  • TO BE A MAN YOU MUST HAVE HONOR AND A PEEEEEENIS!

  • what is the anime at 8:22? anyone?

  • @Zadeass Akira or are you talking about FLCL???

  • Comment removed

  • @Zadeass defiantly FLCL google it.

  • @Kaioken1000 Okay thanks a ton! :)

  • @Zadeass Akira

  • Japan sure has com a long way when they started anime in 1917. However, it maybe popular elsewhere but it isn't that popular due to the fact that our anime industry refuses to advertise them because they want to shut up about it.

  • Sadly some of the versions translated into other languages like Naruto or one piece are horribly cut and have some really meaningless parts in translation.

But thats nothing new, Saber Rider f.E was changed to that the guy with the horse becomes the mainechar instead of Colt.

  • Thanks for an excellent history lesson. (^-^)

  • explains alot of why people go off about dubbed and subbed animes

  • nice

  • This a well produced video the best video i've seen to date explaining this subect 5 stars!

  • that was so cool, i just need to find a longer documentary to watch now lol

  • Many Americans' first real exposure to anime came in '79 with Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato) and then '85 with Robotech (Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospeada).

These epic sci fi dramas far surpassed American animation of the time in every way and left a huge impression on American kids. I'm surprised you left them out.

These days, with the exception of Adult Swim, the anime that's brought over to American TV is mostly silly, card game-based shows.

  • @dbonanno

    Nicely put...

I had forgotten Star Blazers!!! Thanks for stirring some old (And kinda cheesy) memories.

  • @dbonanno Speed Racer doesn't count?

  • @dbonanno anime is not based off card games it is based off japaness books called mangas then come then finaly after that comes the card games. so you are completly wrongh*

  • @dbonanno, i was much less knowledgable about the subject today then when i made this video, so i can see how those were major omissions from the video

  • when you first get into anime its hard to really understand it, cus like he said its from japan and its a really different culture, but I've know about japan long enoff to understand most of whats going on. am I alone on this?

  • Most anime before 2000 may have been poorly animated and/or badly synced sometimes, but I still enjoyed most of those shows a LOT more than the stuff they show nowadays... Ranma 1/2, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, Lupin III, Case Closed, Dragonball, Dragonball Z (before fusion saga), Tenchi Muyo, and PLENTY others were some of the best in my book... I could always relate to them, and they gave me a good feeling when I watched them.

    Amazing video.

  • The anime of the 70s and 80s was much more cinematic and better animated than American TV animation up 'till the 90s, and it still is.

  • The animation doesnt matter if the story is considered a work of literary art

  • suck!

  • wat anime show is dat in 7:10

  • FLCL

  • is the whole thing is the show i think it is, it's called FLCL

  • Fantastic

  • Top notch, man!

  • 6:10 True

  • Whoa. Cool.

  • Magnificent, very interesting, A+.

  • nice vid VERY interesting next time get into the otaku culture next

  • Very interesting Im doning a investigation about influence of japanese pop culture in latin american modern society.

  • Wow, I'll never look at anime the same way again. hehe Nice video!
