can u imagine 2 days back I was telling my friend about this run out that I remembered even after 13 years. This was the 1st inning of Indian team at that tour and Ramesh was first one to go in this manner.hahahaha..........I just posted this video on my friend's facebook wall
@vindaisatossermini Yeah he just couldnt make the next step consistently. Was a very average player of spin, by his own admission, but was a gun against really fast bowling. Developed a problem with bowlers who off-cut the ball- Walsh, Srinath etc, but played the outswingers easily. Punishing pull shot, and a classic cover drive equal to that of Michael Vaughan in its pure quality. His 214 vs South Africa in 197 against Donald/Pollock etc is the best knock ive ever seen. Absolutely destroyed em.
@robelinda2 i was at the Wanderers that day and it was just depressing being there all day as a SA fan and not getting a wicket... but what knocks from both of them
That was an excellent throw from Greg Blewett, obviously he had been doing plenty of outfield practice before that throw lol. I remember a very similar run-out back in the 2005/06 ING Cup when Victoria took on Tasmania at the Junction Oval, and when Nine still had the TV rights to the domestic cricket.
@Jezza46 Victoria had lost two early wickets without scoring a run, I think they were 2/10 by the time Liam Buchanan of Victoria played the on-drive to a big gap in the field on the on-side, Brett Geeves of Tasmania ran for the ball, Buchanan and his batting partner Aiden Blizzard had run two, they were going for a third, Geeves fields from near the boundary, throws the ball and makes a direct-hit to run out Buchanan for 12, and Victoria were 3/12.
@Jezza46 The Vics lost by 114 runs that day, and as for Liam Buchanan who was third-batsman in that match, well it was his 9th and last List A match with just one half-century in his career. Must have been severely haunted by that brilliant run-out by Geeves lol.
@Jezza46 Haha! I remember watching this live and nearlying losing my shit... What an absolutely brilliant throw by Blewett! Truly one of the finest run-outs ever (albeit, the batsmen got a bit lazy, but you still can't take that away from Blewett!)..
@ixale66 Yeah it was pretty cool! The dumb thing was though, ch 9 used to cut to horse racing, and all of us eastern states viewers missed the run out, coverage cut back when the red light came on from the 3rd umpire, thats why the footage i have changes half way through, I had to use a highlights vid for the first bit, then live footage after.
@robelinda2 in this aspect we the viewers of the subcontinent are very lucky we get to see every ball bowled and every run scored on ESPN, STAR SPORTS or STAR CRICKET
Regulation Lawry commentary on a run out; changes his mind about 6 times. Remember Ponting being run out by Anderson in the Sydney test in '07, Lawry's first comment was poor fielding. Two minutes later it had morphed into superb fielding.
Ah yes, that was magnificent. I wonder Rob, if you might have the Ricky Ponting run-out of Marvan Atapattu from the 2nd ODI, SRL vs AUS in 2004. I remember Dean Jones commentating at the time saying "that is the best piece of fielding I've ever seen in a single delivery", or something to that effect. :)
@robertosteiner I'm trying to edit it right now actually, on the Mac, cant use my tv/recorder to edit as its taping the India/SA match, but i'm having all sorts of issues editing on the mac! I need to learn how to do it so i'll persist for now.....
What a horrible way to get out in a test match - that too after chasing leather for four-five sessions! Sadagoppan Ramesh and Devang Gandhi - can't imagine the kind of openers India had!

i have never seen any fielder running out a batsman by directly hitting the stumps from a distance of around 95 metres that was incredible

@robelinda2 About the only thing that Channel 9 has improved in their coverage of the cricket - no more cuts to the races.

Up there with Watsons' direct hit from the deep in the 2007 World Cup. Hard to split them.
