Imagine the squawking if Christians imposed a tax on Muslims. The jitza is more akin to Mafia protection money. Pay and life goes on. One side note. Dhimmis, those who paid the jitza, did not have rights to public office etc. They were definitely second-class citizens.
The Dhimmis where second class citizens and couldn't hold public office? Sorry but I would say you are totally wrong wrong this subject. Two books you should read by two excellent historians that document Muslim civilization is "God's Crucible" by David Lewis and "Peace be upon you" by Zachary Karabell. Both of these books have several examples of non-Muslims during the time of the Prophet all the way to the Ottoman Empire that had government and public positions of power.
Lewis who thought that Charlemagne's Europe was uncultured, nevertheless notes that Christians streamed from al-Andalus which Lewis claims was rich and tolerant.
Strange that people would choose worse living conditions.
I mean Muslims leave their countries to come to Europe and America. Europeans and Americans do not go to Muslim lands.
Karabell's contention that Muslim rulers didn't force conversion is a pure lie. It would not be Islamic to treat non-believers fairly. Koran 9:28. Takiyya lives!
@RockStudioLive "I mean Muslims leave their countries to come to Europe and America. Europeans and Americans do not go to Muslim lands." Europeans and Americans do goto Muslim lands, just think why did the European/American governments have to resuce their citizens from the Arab countries in the recent revolts? Why are there so many European/Americans in U.A.E (in Dubai)? Also, since when have muslims been doing mass movement to Europe/America? Just the last 60 years or so is it not?
@RockStudioLive "The jitza is more akin to Mafia protection money. Pay and life goes on." Are muslims not already paying a high tax in western countries? If they don't, than their life shall stop, they shall be imprisoned. Muslims pay Zakaat while the Dhimmis pay Jizya. The Dhimmis are left alone in their world with their own life style and religion and not terrorized. They should atleast make some input of resources into the central government right?
I love your explanations of this stuff. Are u a Muslim btw? And I've noticed something in Robert spencers book the politically invorrect guide to Islam. In the beginning of chapther one, he describes the Meccan persecution as follows (see next comment)
I am a Muslim, thank you for your interest in my videos and support. I have refuted Robert Spencer's book the Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam, in a video series here on Youtube. Also another series of videos of mine refute the documentary "Islam what the West needs to know" which features Spencer. Some of the video files for the Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam series were corrupted by a bug that went around Youtube, and can be viewed at my blog. The link can be found on the main page.
Jizyah is a form of economic compulsion whereby economic strain COMPELS conversion to Islam
Enemies' lives are spared if they convert to Islam (under pain of death) This too is COMPULSION
Apostates (people leaving Islam for other religions) can be punished with Death! (according to Sha'ria law) This COMPELS people to return to Islam and COMPELS others from leaving Islam
I would advise you to read up on just how much the Jizyah taxes is for non-Muslims living in an Islamic State. From your comment here, I would assume that do not really know how much that tax really is, since you claim that it actually is so straining that it COMPELS people to convert.
Actually enemies lives are spared if they stop fighting the Muslims, and surrender, even the Quran teaches that along with the Sunnah of the Prophet.
See my video on Apostates it might clear up some things for u
Great book written by the Historian Lewis entitled "God's Crucible" would also be beneficial to your study of how the Jizyah was practiced by Muslims fro the 8th all the way to 13th century. Also "Peace be upon you" by the Historian Karabell is an interesting look on life in Span when the Muslims ruled that country. I hope I am not overwhelming you with too much reading material, just trying to help. Peace.
Thanks, but the Jizyah I have examined comes from the experiences between the people of the Balkans and the Ottoman Empire. Here, the COMPULSION was very great in taxation, forced conversions, and among Muslims apostates.
I'm not trying to imply that other examples of Jizyah were the same as the Ottomans, but we can't pretend that it was not used as a form of economic compulsion in other parts of the world.
Ah okay, I see where you are coming from. Of course if one were to do a case study on a specific Sultan or Caliph throughout Muslim history, of course they would not all be perfect. It would also go without saying that their implementation of certain aspects of Sharia Law would not be done the way it should be as taught by the Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet.
So I would have no problem agreeing with you for the most part on that level of study.
It is he who hath sent His Messenger with guidance and the Religion of Truth, to Proclaim it over all religion, even though the Pagans may detest (it)(Quran 9:33)
They Desire To put out the light of allah with Their mouths, and allah will NOT Consent save to perfect His Light, though the unbelievers may detest (it). (Quran 9:32)
if verse 9:5 doesn't abrogate 2:256 then 2:256 doesn't mean what Islamic apologists say it means, which is religious pluralism, otherwise how else can one slaughter pagans ,destroy there idol statues and forbid them from going around the ka'bah this is all impossible to do if 2:256 means religious pluralism and tolerance.
IF one looks at 2:256 it could simply say there is no compulsion they will know Islam is the truth when i smack them on there face as i take my jizya and steal their property, forbid them building new places of worship etc.
Sir you invoking Surah 2:256 and then using the cleaning of the Kaaba by the Prophet and the retaking of Mecca has several flaws to it. First off as I have shown Islam teaches that Surah 2:256 proves that Muslims cannot and are forbidden to force someone to become Muslim. Now with the case of the Kaaba, it was originally a house of worship for the God of Abraham alone and not a place for Pagan idols. Therefore the Prophet brought the it back to its original true state. cont.
cont. also with regards to religious pluralism, Surah 2:256 is not talking about that concept, but as I said in the video forbidding forced conversion. Speaking of the Pagans of Mecca, the Prophet did not force the Pagans to become Muslim, many of them did so based on their own choice. There are verses in the Quran that talk about pluralism of faith and race, that reflect the idea that there are different groups of human beings, and we need to strive for peace. cont.
cont. Furthermore, what great slaughter are you talking about? When the Muslims retook Mecca they did so in a peaceful manner and did not slaughter anyone, but rather the Prophet forgave the Pagans, even though for many years they had sought nothing but his demise and death. cont.
cont. Frankly it would seem that you are taking Surah 2:256 and applying a concept that is not really discussed. It is speaking about respecting the right of a person not to be forced to join Islam. However if you are seeking the respect of pluralism of religion and race, then simply look at the Sunnah of the Prophet as well as the verses that talk about humanity as a whole and also verses that speak positive of other faiths.
You must read the hadiths. Mohamed slaughtered 600 Jews (some accounts say 900 Jews, but to kill that many people you would have to be a psychopath). The women were forced to watch and then raped. This is the story by the people who admired Mohamed and are part of your "holy" literature.
I have read the Hadiths, in fact I own all the major collections in several volumes full of scholarly commentary. Do you even know who the Bani Qurazah were? What they did? What the historical and political context of their execution was? As far as your statement that the women were forced to watch and then raped, could you provide me with a single authentic statement that actually proves that point? There is only one holy text and that is the Quran.
Any man executes his enemies and loves his friends. Jesus commanded us to love our enemies.
You argue that Mohamed had a reason to behead 600 Jews (some say 900 but you would have to be a psychopath to do that!) the way Nazis argued to explain the Holocaust. The way Stalinists argued that it was necessary to murder Ukrainians.
Mohamed was of this ilk, a murderous, looting, raping, lying. pedophile and tyrant.
I have read the koran and the hadiths and I find them the work of Satan, aka Allah.
Ah okay your blocked, I have no interest in discussing someone who cannot in provide me with a simple explanation or what they say is evidence(i.e.) proving what you say the Hadiths say. I am pretty sure you have not only NOT read the Quran or Hadiths but neither of the two books by the historians cited above. Thats fine, you have a choice to hate on someone's religion, but I am here to discuss with people on a intellectual and academic level, not common bigotry and ignorance. Peace be upon you
@RockStudioLive "Jesus commanded us to love our enemies." yes he did but what does that mean? Why did no one love the Nazis? Why is it that according to the book of revelations when Jesus come back to the world he shall "Slay his enimies". ?
While Allah's Apostle was sitting, reclining his back against a Yemenite leather tent he said to his companions, "Will you be pleased to be one-fourth of the people of Paradise?" They said, 'Yes.' He said "Won't you be pleased to be one-third of the people of Paradise" They said, "Yes." He said, "By Him in Whose Hand Muhammad's soul is, I hope that you will be one-half of the people of Paradise."
Could you plz explain this to me, why does muhammad talk abt himself in 2nd person why not my soul is whats the point here, and why only one-half of the ppl of paradise, I was told that heaven and paradise is 2 different places is this true?
@ozzycda Abu Dawud (2150) - "The Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) sent a military expedition to Awtas on the occasion of the battle of Hunain. They met their enemy and fought with them. They defeated them and took them captives. Some of the Companions of the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him)
@ozzycda were reluctant to have intercourse with the female captives in the presence of their husbands who were unbelievers. So Allah, the Exalted, sent down the Quranic verse: (Qur'an 4:24) 'And all married women (are forbidden) unto you save those (captives) whom your right hands possess.'"This is the background for verse 4:24 of the Qur'an. Not only does Allah grant permission for women to be captured and raped, but allows it to even be done in front of their husbands.
@ozzycdaVolume Sahih Bukhari,3, Book 34, Number 432: "O Allah's Apostle! We get female captives as our share of booty, and we are interested in their prices, what is your opinion about coitus interruptus?" The Prophet said, "Do you really do that? It is better for you not to do it. No soul that which Allah has destined to exist, but will surely come into existence
Well when you talk about the aggression of the pagan Arabs you have to look at who started it.
In my opinion it was Muhammad who started it. As written in the first surah of the Qu'ran where he goes to pray salat at the Ka'bah and is prevented from doing so.
This to me seems like a quite mild response from the pagans because if a Catholic were to hold mass at the Ka'bah today the response would be very much more violent then that.
You cannot claim self defense when you are breaking the law.
Again your analogies seem bogus to me and founded on some sort of idea that the Prophet and the Muslims were somehow breaking the Meccan law by practicing Islam. I would love to see your evidence to support such a theory since we have the Pagan Meccan's own testimony as to why they were upset with Muhammad(pbuh) and it was not because of lawbreaking, but as I have said, their won greed and lust for power.
We were establishing who started the aggression the Muslims or the pagans, I say it was the Muslims because Muhammad disobeyed there customs and laws and on more then one occasion invited retribution. (you break the law you can expect to get a punishment) You can read it in the first surah of the Qu'ran Al-Alaq ayat 9-10 Seest thou one who forbids- A votary when he (turns) to pray?
It later asks is he rightious? Meaning is this law acceptable? Disobey your tribe and do as I Allah say.
Any law which counters Islamic law, is considered oppression. Something that needs to be changed and at the least not obeyed. Because it goes against the deen.
We can read it in surah An Nisa 97 where Hell is the destination for those who use oppressive laws as an excuse to accept man made laws instead of Allah's law and so abandon there deen.
Oh yes your totally right the Muslims started it, oh sure. If you look at ANY history book or Biography of the Prophet, the first aggressors and violent acts done were the Pagans against the Muslims. The early Muslims were tortured, murdered, and their property stolen,. I don't know where you get this idea that the percecution of the Muslims was "mild". It was not against the law in Pagan Mecca to pray at the Kaaba in whatever way you choose. The Pagan leaders felt threatened by Muhammad cont.
cont. because many people were converting to Islam, and this threatened their popular power. It was not an issue of LAW, but an issue of the Pagan Arabs leader's greed and lust for power to be only theirs. I suggest reading Karen Armstrongs book Muhammad a Biography to get a sense of this.
The user investigateislam/christianprince or whatever name he goes by nowadays, has been proven to be a compulsive liar by so many people already. I can't believe some people actually believe he is a credible critic of Islam.
Yeah I am not surprised at all, like I said in this video, these sort of cheap tactics are not for cowards who are not interested in any sort for real, meaningful or Academic discussion, but full of hate and blind ignorance. As I said, I don't take this sort of stuff very seriously.

You are not a liar Ozzy.

The user investigateislam/christianprince or whatever name he goes by nowadays, has been proven to be a compulsive liar by so many people already. I can't believe some people actually believe he is a credible critic of Islam.
Great refutation brother.

Yeah I am not surprised at all, like I said in this video, these sort of cheap tactics are not for cowards who are not interested in any sort for real, meaningful or Academic discussion, but full of hate and blind ignorance. As I said, I don't take this sort of stuff very seriously.
