"Stoner Rock" is just a trendy term to give the youngsters something to latch onto so they'll hopefully buy the records.
When stuff like this came out, terms like Psychedelic, Acid Rock and Hard Rock were used. The term "stoner rock" was created to get silly hipsters to buy music their dad liked.
