  • its a tomato dont be so gentle ur not handling a baby

  • this is the best video I've seen here in youtube. So easy to follow! Thank you so much.

  • I definitely advise burying the stem. The more stem you bury, the stronger the plant gets. :)

  • I will, thank you very much Thompsonmorgan:)) i believe this will work well, thank you for the technique and advises too!!

  • Btw,i live in Malaysia,to be exact i'm in Borneo, the temperature is hot and humid,im afraid the weather will effect my plants and , do i have to spray them ?

  • @grenademix96 Tomatoes should grow ok in Malaysia. Give them plenty of sun and try to keep them consistantly moist. In hot climates you may need to water several times a day. Humidity can provide ideal conditions for plant diseases including blight so grow them in a well ventilated area and avoid crowding them together. Spray them with Dithane 945 - if you can get this product in Malaysia.

  • Thank you Thompsonmorgan,my tomatoes already show it's leaves and i guess its time to move them,i planted them 6 days ago,and it shows 3 leafes,is it the time to re plant them?

  • @grenademix96 It sounds as though they are ready to transplant. They obviously grow very quickly in your climate! Follow the technique in our video. Best of luck with your tomato crop.

  • okay,so i started it,but i accidentally put too many seeds in one small polybag,it grows already and i can see the leaves, the problem is ,how to move them when they are close to each other? The same i did by planting chillies:(

  • @grenademix96 Don't worry - just let them grow until they are large enough to transplant into individual 7cm pots. Then you can carefully separate them to give them the space that they need. It won't do any harm to sow them closer together than shown in our video. Hope that helps.

  • Helpful.. thx

  • Excellent video! I didn't know I needed to prune the side shoots. Thanks!

  • finally someone shows tomato growers that a healthier & stronger plant stem is achieved by re-burying deeper each time allowing for size of pot, more roots more feed, sturdier, thicker stem and plant. all to often sellers don't tell you this basic known fact. great thanks

  • this is very nice and helpful.

  • Tomato seeds are covered in a growth inhibiting jelly. To save tomato seed you need to remove this jelly first by fermenting them. Scoop them into a glass jar, add a couple of spoons of water, and cover the jar with clingfilm. Make a couple of holes in the film to let air in. After 5 days in a warm spot (out of direct sun) the seeds will have sunk to the bottom of the solution. Rinse them off and dry them naturally before storing in a paper bag. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • I have a fresh basket of organic cherry tomato that i bought from a local grower. Can i plant the seeds, or do I have to dry them first?

  • Thanks for your time, you are very generous.

  • gr8 video about how long from sprouting till harvest and i started some in the little compacted pellets about a week ago

  • @ajstevenson131 It will be 6 or 7 weeks before you can transplant them outdoors and then around another 7 weeks before you get your first tomatoes. This will vary depending on the growing conditions and the variety that you are growing.

  • Oh this is helpful thanks! What If I don't transport my tomato seedlings? Will it not grow?

  • @sonyab1974 They will grow but if there are several in each pot then they will become conjested and start competing with each other for light, water and nutrients. Each individual plant needs its own space to develop, and they are quite fast growing so they would quickly outgrow the small pots that they were sown in.

  • @thompsonmorgan Oh okay thanks. I don't have small pots.. I have this big planter that I am growing a lot of seeds in. :) Is that okay?

  • @sonyab1974 If you are growing seed in a really big planter then you could just thin the seedlings out leaving two or three plants evenly spaced within the planter. But this is not the ideal way to grow them. Apart from competing with each other this also increases the risk of disease as there is less air flow betwen the plants. I would seriously consider transplanting them for the best results - it's really easy to do. If you need some advice on how to go about it we are happy to help!

  • @thompsonmorgan Risk of disease? That's too bad. :( I had no idea. Thanks for letting me know that. Yes I need all the advice I can get. :)

  • The best way to improve tomato fruits is to have them pollinated by bumblebees. Not always possible in an amateur greenhouse until now, as there's small bumblebee hives called Beepol hives on the market in the UK now!

  • I swear she watered them too much at 1:32 considering they are very young ones. I have read that tomato plants should never be soaked but enough water so the soil is moist and there is air in the soil, so the roots can develop properly, otherwise I think the roots will rot, so don't do what she did, and look how the plants are falling over when she does it.

  • @SleepIsMagic you can start to feed your tomato plants once they form their first flowers. They will benefit from feeding every week or two, depending on the type of fertiliser you're using (always check the label for instructions). Your tomato plants should flower throughout the summer and the tomatoes are normally ready to harvest between July and October.

  • my tumblers are growing great now. Unfortunately I only have five, I did have like 9 but I accidently knocked the pot off the window sill and they fell out and some were just too weak to plant again. The ones that survived though now have their first set of leaves in their own pots and the stems are growing upwards again, so in a month or so I should have some really good plants. Everyone who is interested you must try it but be patient.

  • thank you

  • I have just transported my tomato seedlings - fingers crossed the now grow. Should I be doing the same thing with basil?

  • @harky3413 Hi Harky. You dont really need to transplant basil as the individual seedlings will not need as much space as your tomatoes. If they are very densly sown then you may want to thin them out slightly.

  • hi, i got seeds of a tomato that was already ready would the seed still grow. i toke of the jelly cover thing off

pleaz reply as quick as you can.

  • Hi Daisypie101, the seeds from your tomato should grow - you do need to wash the seeds and remove any remaining tomato fruit before sowing them. It's also a good idea to dry them for a few days before sowing. Happy growing!

  • everytime i grow tomatos they grow 3 inches and die :(

  • Hi ng31200, it is very hard not to lose some roots when pricking out seedlings. Provided the majority of the roots are still intact this should be enough to help the seedling establish in its new pot.

  • @ng31200 Hi ng31200, if your seedlings look green and healthy then their slow growth is probably due to cool temperatures and low light levels. Now the weather is improving and the days are longer you should start to see more growth, although do make sure their growing environment is consistently warm. Also, try feeding them as they may have depleted the nutrients in the compost. Use a balanced liquid fertiliser at half the strength advised on the packet.

  • after u transplanted them @ 1.30 in this vid & gave them there initial watering to settle them in how often do you water em after that & do you water from underneath ?

  • @bern1e only water your tomatoes as the compost dries out - if you keep the compost too wet you may encourage your seedlings to rot. Watering on to the compost surface is easier and won't harm your seedlings!

  • Do you only water them once in the germination process?

Also what about after that when you transfer the plants into another container, like how regularly do you water them then too?

If you answer me then I can start, and i will be gratefull, thanks.

  • @GmailJMS Sorry for late response. Just seen your comment. You need to water whenever the compost begins to dry out. By the time they are full grown plants you will probably be watering once a day.

  • @ng31200 yep

  • does a seed mean a tomato plant with tomatoes? or do you have male and females?

let me say it more simple, do all seedlings become tomato producers?

  • @We3dAnt Yes they will all produce tomatoes!

  • That video was perfect , very well presented , clear and most of all easy to understand. Thank you very much.

  • Hi ng31200, yes each plant is grown from one seed.

  • IT LOOKS SO FUNNNN!!!!!!

  • how many pots did the tomatoes go through, after the true leaves emerged?

  • @ev9910 the tomatoes seedlings were pricked out and transplanted into 9cm (3 inch) pots. They were then allowed to grow to about 30cm (12 inches) tall before planting out into their final positions in grow-bags or in the ground.

  • @thompsonmorgan thanks

  • i dont use vermiculate. what about compost mixed with a lot of peat? is that close to what is used in this video?

  • @rypetkypar Yes, this is a peat based compost.

  • ok. can i just use fine peat moss to start my seeds?

  • ok because i was wondering if i could just use fine peat moss to start my seeds. will that work?

  • @rypetkypar Yes. thats fine although you may want to mix in a little vermiculite to improve drainage.

  • is multiporpuse compost just peat and compost?

  • Hi rypetkypar, many multi-purpose composts are a mixture of peat and other ingredients such as other organic material, fertilisers, wetting agents and sometimes lime. Manufacturers normally state any added ingredients on the bag and whether their product is peat-free.

  • thanks

  • hi, what brand of multi porpuse compost is that?

  • @rypetkypar Hi, we would recommend using a good quality seed compost to get the best results from your tomato seeds. There are lots on the market and most of them should be of a reasonably quality. Kind Regards T&M

  • how long will it take for a tomato to pop out?

  • I think you are asking about the germination periods for the tomato seeds. If so you will find that they germinate very quickly, probably within days. Kind Regards T&M

  • sweet video thank u so much

  • can you use seeds straight out of the tomato?

  • @chc033044 As long as you let them dry completely first.

  • Am glad that Thompston and Morgan is starting to do some video’s have got lots of Thompson seeds but there are some pack which does not have planting times. Could you also say what month should you start tomatoes seeds indoors? I live in the South East.

  • It's Gr8 help for me... since so many times trying to grow tomatoes in my home.... This is real help...Thank you so much...

  • great video.

  • its not a killer tomato
