Nicely done man. I'm in South Africa. I'm a guitar player too, and recently got myself an Ibanez SR 505 SDGR, So we're in the same boat, as far as "new to bass playing' is concerned. So good luck with your bass playing....
Cwildenradt, this is a very nice tone your getting here. Could you tell me are those rotosounds flatwounds? How does the sound compare to the original elixer's. Im thinking of changing to rotosounds as the tone is a bit too metallic and bright. Thanks
I just picked up a bass today, my first time really playing. Dude that was ,.....Awwwsome !!.I typed in DMB bass cover and hit your video first.Great job and you are inspiring.
There really insn't any reason to watch any more. Seriously, i'm gunna try to play this song !! ..what do you think ? could a novice learn to play a song like this ?
@robertrmcm2010 Thanks! Sure, a novice could learn to play it...you just watched one. Haha. Just take it slow in the beginning to get the muscle memory down and gradually work up to tempo.
@86superdado No, but I know there are plenty available with a quick Google search. Most of the song I did by ear, but I had to search the tabs to get the bridge line. Can't recall which I used though.
I searched Ibanez SR500 and came up with your bass cover of American Baby.
Man, if I can play that well in a few years I would be pumped up. Great job, keep playing. This will be my first bass purchase and from watching you play I have a lot of room for growth.
@kufawtom depeends on the persons preference like alot of people think bass is easyer but there talking about just standard pluckimg the strings the bass in my opinion you have alot more options and to me you can hear it more then guitar so really to answer your question it all comes down to personal preference
Your left hand technique is actually not bad, just watch out for that creeping thumb, the right hand does look awkward though. Try keeping your right hand more flat on the bass and check out the Floating thumb technique, it's where you always keep your thumb on the string (or pickup) above the string you are playing
Awesome bro. From a die hard DMB fan whos been to over 20 shows. If you want some of Stefan's best bass lines, try learning Crush, Seek Up, The Stone, and Kit Kat Jam
that was amazing. i wish i could play guitar/bass like that...where do you live? teach me! haha
stefan has an insane bass solo at the start of two step live at central park...if you ever do that, be sure to mssg me so I can check it out. great job.
@Cwildenradt You can play everything with this baby. I play metal and i'f see guys play blues or jazz with it. The last time i wenth to a concert it whas punk rock and that guy playd it to.
Sweet man... I like it. Good job of comping at the end there when Carter's going nuts on the kit w/ displaced rhythms and over-the-bar stuff. The bass was solid there and right in time
The Ibanez and all of your processing WIZARDRY sounds great
Amazingly enough, the end was the least of my worries. That bridge part was the toughy, predominantly because of the finger plucking which I'm not quite used to yet. Hence the timing flubs there.
This was so good I couldnt help but watch it again!
