@wzwiedzionykutacz I beg to differ. Russians have the best missile cavalry units in the game besides the Mongols. In an infantry match-up the russians would get stomped by the Western Europeans but Russia is a cav-based faction and is very strong on open-terrain.

@Midironica Yeah, sure :P They are strong in open terrain, but the goal is to capture settlements. And cavalry is not the best choice to fight with infantry in melee, am i wrong?

@wzwiedzionykutacz No your right, but there are many options when taking a settlement. If your playing as Russia and then all you need to do is siege an enemy until they are forced to attack you or attack cities with units close to them. If you do that then the cities garrison has to reinforce them and come out to attack you. Either way, each side have pros and cons. I just didn't want people to think that Russia sucked.

@Midironica In comparison to, e.g. England, France, Espania, Spain or other "main" fractions they have much less different units to choose from. England have 3 kinds of heavy armor infantry, Egypt and Russia only one. Isn't that fucked? Maybe stupid Americans intentionally did that ;)

PS: Missile cavalry is difficult to use properly, so people don't like it.

PS2: Medieval 3 wiil fix all problems :3

Those of you thinking the faction is lacking in the base game, Try Stainless steel. it splits a few countries into multiple factions and adds a few new ones aswell. Russia gets split into Novgorod and Kievan Rus, which Some people were mentioning. It vastly improves all the factions and makes the game much more enjoyable

@NoobSnoopy I believe the fighting probably was to represent the wars and battles between the Duchy of Kiev(a.k.a. the Kievan Rus) and the Roman Empire(Byzantine Empire). The Kievans are the ancestors of modern day Ukrainians and since both Russia and Kiev were closely related (Russia was originally part of the Rus' territory but the Duchy declined in power later on and Russia seceded from the Duchy) along with Kiev not being in the game, Russia could be used to represent both ingame.

Its not just russian. Some turkic people weared masks too , specificaly , Kypchaks and Volga Bulgars. Yes mask was honor. Kievan guards , nobles , even king , veterans and simmilar were wearing mask as sign of honor.
