@candiceevans1 I wouldn't say exterminated. Most died of diseases they had no resistance to. The deaths from disease would have happened eventually upon contact and nothing we had would have stopped this.

The law of civilization for eons has been that any society who cannot defend themselves is eventually merged with one that can. This is just how life was back then and had always been since the dawn of time.

I have always felt love and admiration of Native Americans - and when I learned what had happened to them - I was so angry, then I felt a deep sense of loss - their loss IS my loss. Thank you for sharing the truth behind the origins of the "holiday" I was brought up being taught was a day of "thanks". I feel it's important to understand how law works so that bad laws can be revised into better more beneficial laws. The average person does not know how the law works and therefore it's easier to pass laws that hurt others and only benefit a few.

Not every lawyer is a bad person. Thurgood Marshall was a lawyer who worked tirelessly for equality and was a member of the American Civil Rights movement. He lobbied against Jim Crow laws. He worked tirelessly for equal protect under the 13th and 14th Amendments of the Constitution. He became a Supreme Court Judge and worked constantly for the greater good that all may know justice and equality.
