  • So.. where's the squatting?..

  • well thank you.

    Cheers

  • great job man don't listen to any of these other people who are athletic noobs and obviously haven't read any sports physics on jumping and what it takes to achieve maximal speed

  • Well..... You're jumping. I don't know about squatting though.

  • yall should know that roald is a freakin beast at throwing things!

  • So Ronald Mc donald doesn't wear his wig to the gym now??

  • but your vertical is still bad

  • faggot

  • Pretty bold title, dont you think you think?-FAG

  • @kpoff5128 - should be...The shitiest form, lowest jump, biggest tool Ever??: 440lbs (200kgs) x 5 reps

  • @MrGixer69 I agree

  • system of a down sydnrome

  • Yall need to show some respect to this man

  • He's gunna snap some shit up like that.

  • this is for javelin training not bodybuilding people

  • You didn't even squat....

  • If you just google this guy you will see right away that he is a fucking animal and would probably crush the soul of many men half his age. Roald Bradstock is clearly not a douchebag.... Took me 20 seconds to find that out :) Sadly it took me 60 seconds to type this....

  • I like this because without any apparent reference to kb sport in which this is an assistance exercise, here is this guy doing it the same way with about the same weight as kb sport world champions use maybe 20x. Actually they aim to get to 2-3x their bodyweight 20x. 20x is standard so we work up weight not reps, as far as kb sport assistance training, but any given day variety is good and proving a point is good and meeting a challenge, as far as the code kb pros go by. Cool.

  • guys that love this.. there are better ways to train explosion in the legs then this lol. why people think jumping with a loaded barbell on your back is a good idea i dont know...

  • old man buy some shorts

  • your an idiot, why don't you just get strong enough to actually squat that weight instead of potentially ruining your knees in the process of being a "Squat Douchebag"

  • looks like ur gunna have a horrible knee injury because that is way too much weight for you.

  • TERRIBLE

  • wow all the haters are pretty stupid on this thread, what he just did was extremely difficult and very beneficial for explosive athletic type training.. check steve cotter squat jumps if you think you know any better.. idiots

  • is that wut they mean by white men cant jump next ull give us a reputation we cant sqaut

  • your shit!

  • Can you squat 440??

  • epic pants fail!!!

  • You're meant to use 30% 1RM of ur back squat. This is obviously not 30%. You can barely jump with it. You're killing your joints.

  • This video should be posted in all "Squat Douchebag" threads on all forums relating to lifting on the web.

  • @Darksteez

come on don't beat about the bush what do you really think?

  • @Roald62

I think what you are doing is fucking retarded as are the 47 people who like this video. Please tell me the athletic benefits of jump squatting more than you can probably squat?

  • @Darksteez if you're a triple jumper theres definite benefits. the forces being applied to each phase are enormous in the event, and jump squats definitely help strengthen the core and hips as well as work the quads. perhaps theres no reason for this guy to do it, but they're are benefits

  • @Roald62 nice hair.

  • @Darksteez

    :(

  • @Darksteez I totally agreed with you after I hear "Toxicity" by System of A Down in the background.

  • hey, i realy enjoy the squat exercise and believe it has many benefits if done correctly and is safe, but is jumping with weight not a good idea, how do you keep your body from not moving around while in the air?

  • @MrEnjoyutube

You're going straight up and down. It's not any worse than doing a fucking jerk or clean. I can't believe some people.

  • nice pants bro jc penny?

  • @terrelkuhlman I'm sure you can......

  • u my friend u r a tool

  • my friend made me jump squat with 165 pounds telling me itd help me with explosion. the barbell flew and landed on my neck bone. not a good idea. i learned it the hard way (bone bruised)

  • my name is Roald......

  • god that cant be good for your back

  • your jumping like 1 cm...

  • @terrelkuhlman

    0.1cm maybe......

  • @Roald62 Thats no squat....... thats a 1/4 squat

  • @terrelkuhlman With 440 pounds on his back.....

  • @lordvoldemort578 still dude, i'm a freshman in high school and I can do this well over 5 times with ease.

  • @terrelkuhlman Post a vid

  • @lordvoldemort578 trust me, i would, but i dont have a camcorder. this really isnt too amazing, i see my freshman buddies do this much with ease. this is average.

  • @terrelkuhlman I would like to see you post a video of that. Or are you afraid of subjecting yourself to the ridicule of ignorant cyber fitness wannabe's that hate themselves so much they spend all day posting uneducated moronic and hateful comments to people who can't defend themselves. So whenever you're ready to post that video..... we'll all be ready to comment.

  • @terrelkuhlman i'd like to see how high you can jump with 200 kg on your back :p

  • FUCK YEAH SYSTEM!

  • though jump squats are cool for building up explosive strength in your legs, this might be the most scary and the most awful way to perform them

  • I know I made a comment lower down, about a month ago, but people bear in mind this is an ex-Olympic athlete!...Just now as I write this there's a video to the right of Steve Cotter doing jump squats, who is a renowned trainer. (Featured in undergroundwellness where I saw him first)...I recently found Vince Gironda's Sissy Squat, I love it, but there are people saying "oh no, it will kill the knees" under that video...Well anyways, this chap is obviously a very physically gifted person .

  • Comment removed

  • The only good thing about this video is system of a down, but in your case it should be system of a downs syndrome because that was quite possibly the dumbest shit i have ever seen

  • @jalidav1 made me rofl

  • @jalidav1 or to say it with the song's lyrics : disorder...disorder....

  • @jalidav1

Hey girly, do you realize that this guy is actually an accomplished track and field athlete? Have you ever been an accomplished anything?

  • Sweet pants bro!

  • @DcfbxWade

    err....thanks...I think?????

  • I did not read the spina bifida part. You are a lot less smart than i imagined and i know continueing this discussion will only get worse .

  • @thorxmjolnir73

Yeahh I amm nott two bright - sorry

I wish we could "continueing" our conversation but I understand

  • fair enough. be little

  • Sir

I am missing discs and still squat heavy with no back pain. Ride the bar lower on your traps.I None the less i respect your opinions and its your body and good luck with that. i wont say another word or visit this area again and hope you will not be offended further. I throw the shot and have no idea how to throw a javelin but none of the clinics ive been to suggest this movement. I would lag bolt my squat rack to the floor though. darn it im sorry im a safety nut.

  • @thorxmjolnir73

    FYI: I have spina bifida!

Squating with the bar lower does absolutely nothing for me then allow me to life more weight, get tighter, bigger and slower

  • I have never seen the reverse snatch, but your lower lumbar is the issue here. Ive squated all my life and at 42 my knees are not the problem. This will lead to bulging then ruptuered discs. I can still squat over 600 lbs and i have never left the ground on a squat. Squat deep, squat safe squat heavy. If you want to be hurt hit yourself with a hammer.

  • @thorxmjolnir73

with all due respect deep squats kill my lower back and my knees - even with light weight.

Also, my legs get massive and adductors and back get super tight -

I am javelin thrower - I do what helps me throw far

  • this is easily the dumbest thing i have ever seen in a weight room

  • @thorxmjolnir73

    I would beg to differ...

The reverse snatch would have to be worse.......??????

  • why?

  • @m5p944

    coz......

  • your such a gayboy

  • I used to do a lot of explosive-type stuff with bars. Far too much. That was before I got M.E. symptoms...I think that power-training with weights is best done with more controlled momentum, leaving plyometric-type movements to moving one's body without weight. Isn't the benefit of the plyometric via its perculiar loading of the nervous system?I'd think one loses that trying to do it with heavy weight..And then, the strain on ligaments and joints. The muscles can't work in isolation.Take care.

  • Is this a fucking joke? What is the point of this but trying to injure yourself?

  • @raskley1

    no

    coz

  • what you are doing is destroing your nees.dont think you are working out.ask for sujestion how to do it correctly

  • Can you still do this Roald? Hope you can keep form for next year ;) 200kg is alot hehe xD

  • @santeenl

I did 380lbs for 2 sets of 10 reps last week weighing 35lbs less then in this video, so... I would say yes,

    :)

  • @Roald62 You lost over 15kg? Wow =P I lost 4 in the last 6 months which is pretty much for me. I'm 79kg now

  • @justinbrillo1

so with in the next 16 and a half months then - wow

    :(

  • @Pulsationz

put deep heat on knees and lower back,

    10 minutes stationary bike,

    10 minutes stretching

    1 x 10 reps bar(45)

    1 x 10 reps 135lbs

    1 x 10 reps 225lbs

    1 x 10 reps 275lbs

    1 x 10 reps 330lbs / 150kg

Then depending where I in my cycle I am I will go continue up additional weight in 10 to 20lbs increments

  • knee damage, problems later on in life.

  • @MixingLaboratory

I am almost 49 now. When should I expect problems?

  • @Roald62 LOL

  • @Roald62 As you get older and later on in life. You are placing immense strain on your knee ligaments and various structures therein.

  • trust me I am well aware of the strain I am putting my body through.

But the weight is not landing on my back which would indeed destroy my body, crush my spine, blow my knees out.

If you look you will see I am accelerating and then deccelerating the weight so I am acting a shock absorber - using muscles, but obviously there is going to be strian on the joints, tendon and ligaments.

  • @MixingLaboratory

The most dangerous part of this exercise is taking the step backwards with the weight and even more so re racking the weight when I am done and am fatigued

  • @Roald62 The force, motion and forward projection of the knee is gradually destroying the meniscus and restraining ligaments. Please take care and look after yourself.

  • good job. Looks like your trying out for the body building wheelchair division.

  • @imthetank3

    thanks

  • terrible!

  • How dumb can you get???

  • @schingalingablinga

    dumber? I love that movie.

  • this defeats the purpose of even doing squats you moron

  • @eyesack9

and the purpose of that would be what?

To get massively stong in a position I don't get into for throwing javelin, which is what I do, get huge thighs and gluts that would slow me down on my run up to throw and get tight and really inflexible in my addctors, quads, hams and lower back?

If it is all the same to you I'll stick to doing these

    regards

    "Moron"

  • @Roald62 breaking your back would totally help you throw that javelin while you're in a wheelchair now wouldn't it?

  • After 28 years in gyms I gotta say that now I've seen it all. I'd be more impressed just to see this guy do 5 parallel squats with 200k. Funny though.

  • These kids posting about how retarded this movement is should research some more. Professional hockey players jump squat all the time. Dimwits.

  • Sweet Jesus Christ and for the love of all that is holy !!

If anyone can honestly sit there and follow along with this absurd line of lies and poor safety practices ?? Well ... go out side .. open up your car door ... insert your head near the jamb of the door .. proceed to slam the car door on your head for five reps and then repeat as needed in order to come to a more clear understanding that this is the stupidest work out " lift" I have ever seen !

Javelin or not .. This is SHIT !

  • @farva422663

don't beat about the bush what do really think?

  • just when i thought id seen the height of stupidity i came across this prat if u did that in my gym id personally break your back so u couldnt influence others into copying ur utter nonsense

  • @scotthulksgym

Just to make it clear this is what "I" do.

    Is it "High" risk? Absolutely.

Would I ask any of my clients or athletes to do it? Never.

I have found this exercise to work for me and work very effectively.

I was born with spina bifida and told to never play sports.

Now, almost 50 I am still going at a very high level.

You should look carefully at what I am actually doing and not what you think I am doing.

    cheers

  • LMAO, wtf was that?!

  • Grandpaw?

  • noobs

  • why are you doing this? did your spine rape you as a child and now you are getting revenge?

  • NO NO NO NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

  • dude if you want to fuck your back up then get someone to hit it with a hammer it's the same but a lot quicker

  • @x666666x

I'll take the slow route if thats okay with you?

  • @TeenyTiny945

don't you mean, "Holy spinal compression Batman!"...?

    :)

  • To anyone who decides one day that they want to destroy their back or knees do what is demonstrated in this video. It is in fact 100% efective in destoying your joints in a short period of time.

The wheel chair is only a few jumps away. The choice is yours!!!!

  • @csjs123

okay so I am 48 almost 49 now how "short a period of time" are you talking about?

I have been doing this for over 30 years.

  • @Roald62 What??? you have been putting 440 lbs on back and jumping like this for over 30 years.. Yeah, ok. Have you ever asked yourself why there are no other videos like this ?? I do not, it is stupid plain and simply. I am not impressed by it either I think its sad your putting this video up and thinking its a good thing. Your indirectly miss infoming those who do not know any better. Your feet for one should not ever leave the ground. Your just asking for it my opinion, its dangerous.

  • @csjs123

Yes I have been doing this "exercise" for 30+ years, not with 440lbs all the time though. I cycle up to that weight.

Where in this video do I say "you" or anyone else "must" or "should" do this?

All I say is that all that matters is that you leave the ground and you actually correct they don't even have to do that.

My point is that if I have left the ground by even a fraction of an inch I must have fully engaged the fast twitch fibres in my lower body, right? Which is my goal.

  • @csjs123 Damn, there are a LOT of idiots out there. This is actually great for you. And if this guy is doing it, it's obviously working. Why aren't there other videos like this out there? Because, people like you who are too stupid are in the majority. I used to jump off of a 48 platform with my girlfriend on my shoulders. And I've done one legged jumps with people on my back.

  • @MrDarcyzPP

Sure thing Troll. The thing is we actually value your opinion. I urge you to continue with your vast Trolling knowledge. Please, I insist.

  • @csjs123 what would you recommend for explosive leg power?

right now im just doing jumping squats un weighted.

  • @csjs123 LMFAOOOO

  • @csjs123 i guess we shouldn't power clean either

  • @nikolatesla08

The motion and mechanics are completly different. You can not compare the two.

  • @csjs123 @csjs123 you right they are different. with the power clean you land with the bar in front of your head. this position "the front squat" puts more stress on the knees. the jump is the same. i dont see how u figure power cleans are ok but jump squats will destroy your knees and back. What about depth jumps? or jumping in general. i dont know the exact equation but pending on the persons height and weight someone can achieve the same force on the knees just by jumping.

  • I never posted power cleans were ok all i said were the mechanics are completly different. In my opinion power cleans are less detremental to you physicaly.. We both know huge people get there knees damaged very quickly. Look at basketball player. Go look up the difference between all the lifts including stress on the body then we will talk. I am not wasting my time on basic lifting fundamentals with you.

  • @csjs123

"Roald Bradstock, breaks the World Javelin Age Record for a 48 year old 3 times in 2 meets just 6 days apart: 70.16m, 70.40m and 71.07m!"

Feel like a pussy yet, pussy?

  • @csjs123 you're obviously not an elite athlete

  • @triplestep1829 You may obviously be presumptuous. Please, continue.. You are doing great!

  • @csjs123 I don't have to. I'm an elite athlete.

  • @triplestep1829 Perhaps and perhaps I may also be an "elite athlete" However that may be. Your comment stands no ground in any way shape or form. If I told you I was a physicist of quantum theory would that make me right? Of course it does not.

Moral of the story: safety first and do not assume anything even if you may or may not be a self proclaimed "Elite Athlete". I wish you the best in what ever elite level of competition you may or may not compete in. Be well and stay healthy.

  • @csjs123 I will. doing beneficial jump squats.

  • I can't see this doing more good than bad for your body. but good job, hope it doesn't mess you up. I know I would never perform an exercise like this

  • there is no way that is good for your back...

  • Why the fuck are you doing this..

  • @robiscool09

    coz

  • thats so fucking dumb, anyone who knos anything about powerlifting or olimpic lifting knows jump squats are usless and destory your back because of all the wieght that loads your spine when you land

  • CHANGE THE TITLE INTO " How To break your back in 5 steps "

  • holly shit!!!

  • that is so fucking stuopid lolool

  • erm im pretty sure this is 160kg??? (four reds, two 20kg plates and the bar?) still very heavy but not 200kg and just out of interest why not just clean? much more triple ext?

  • @90sub10

there are actually four 20 kg plates - 2 at the ends and another 2 in between the red plates

  • дибилоид

  • not at all thats not even hard

  • doesnt that shh smashes ur spine discs inward..and puttin more pressure on it..or is his health care covering that hahahha

  • @nomitata

no it does not - if you watch carefully u will notice I am accelerating and then decelerating the weight

    :)

  • @Roald62 What is your vertical jump? With power like that it must be at least 35 inches right?

  • @7tylerjb

in my youth it was 29 inches if I remember correctly - and that was a stationary two footed jump

  • @Roald62 erm im pretty sure this is 160kg??? (four reds, two 20kg plates and the bar?) still very heavy but not 200kg and just out of interest why not just clean? much more triple ext?

  • push up on the bar as if you were doin a shoulder press.helps.even cushions if ya cant budge the bar by pressin it

  • wearing tights is for FAGGOTS

  • @utukk so u wear them?

  • It's not bad for your spine, neither is it for your knees, this guy looked like he lifted the weight easily off the racks, thus he probably has a VERY stable core and posterior chain, don't be hating just cuz ur a doctor who never lifted a weight in your life.

  • @crusher1427 and you have data to back up the these claims?

  • @55AllOut Im not gonna be citing fuckin journals for a stupid blog

  • @crusher1427 Im not gonna be citing fuckin journals for a stupid blog= im spouting nonsense and have nothing to back it up

  • @55AllOut hey buddy, you got a problem with me ?

  • @crusher1427 lol, you make me laugh, im so intimidated by the internet guy

and i dont even know you, to me, your a poster on a website, misleading people, and now, trying to act all big

  • dumb

  • As an exercise science student and certified trainer, I have to say that this is possibly the dumbest exercise anyone could ever do due to the tremendous pressure exerted on the spinal column. Plus, the weight is far too heavy to consider this a power exercise, especially when "all you have to do is leave the ground" 2 inches. This is about as functional an exercise as flys. The risks far outweigh the benefits, if there are any.

  • @brenthughes07 @brenthughes07

FYI: I have spina bifida and as a teenager was both a competitive power lifter and olympic lifter. I then focused on javelin throwing becoming an international level thrower in 1979 at the age of 17. I have broken multiple World Records, been in 2 Olympics and an alternate for another 2.

  • @Roald62 Last month I smashed the world age record for a 48 year old 3 times and am now on target to make my 8th Olympic trials at the ripe old age of 50 in 2012. I have never had any back, knee, shoulder or elbow problems to date - just FYI

  • worst thing you can do

  • i dont understand why you would consider doing basically a quarter rep of a half squat with that weight. Its clearly just to show people how bad you can hurt your back. rea reps real results.....

  • هits not 200kg cammon guys he is having Chicken legs

  • isnt it very stressful for the knees ?

  • nope!

  • ya its terrible for your knee. hes going to have bad knees very soon

  • disillusion fuck yeah

  • also, who was the throwing coach at SMU when you were there?, Ted?

  • Ted and Ted - and then Dave Johnson my last year

  • I'm interested to know why this would be better than depth jumping? There is some risk to depth jumping also, but working up to it seems much safer than these heavy jump squats. Plus the depth jumping is much more dynamic than these.

  • Depth jumping made my legs to big, tightened my adductors up to much, put a lot of strain on my lower back and knees. This exercise is very dynamic and the very limited range I am working in makes it a lot safer then it appears.

  • Depth jumping made my legs to big, tightened my adductors up to much, put a lot of strain on my lower back and knees. This exercise is very dynamic and the very limited range I am working in makes it a lot safer then it appears.

  • sadly body builders are are the worse athletes :\

  • there certainly are........

    :)

  • @Roald62 well not worse, but not really good.
