I was just wondering if you know anyone who couldn't do the stall ... ? coz i usually learn fast your moves ... and i have rather big hands ... but the stall is almost impossible ... i have been practicing it for some time now ... and i have 4 wounds on my middle finger that healed and 2 bloody ones that rly piss me off ... and i can't seem to get it . Should i practice more or give up ?xD
Hey MangoMyers, thanks for making this video firstly. I have an embarassing question. I bought a Flairco bottle last week, and I was just wondering what the doohickey at the top is, the little yellow thing. I decided to learn the basics well before I might be looking for work, so by the time I need to get a job I will have lots of skills. Thanks -
Thank you for taking the time to post these videos. I don't have any experience as a bartender and I'm excited to begin my journey in this field. I just got hired at T.G.I. Friday's and I can't wait to be experienced enough to actually incorporate some of these techniques you are teaching.
dude, i'm so glad i found your videos! I just did a two week bartending course a few weeks ago, now i can go to the next level cause we didn't do flairs at all in it.
Hey Chris, I'm loving the videos and appreciate your time and quality teaching.
I'm using an empty flairco bottle, and i'm picking up a lot of stuff pretty naturally. However, I can't seem to make the stall happen.. I have tried every way of stalling it on my hand that i can imagine, and I just can't seem to get it. Did you find that it was just a lot of messing up until it clicked, and you got it? What kind of average practice hours did you encounter with your flair training?
@umnic I remember the first time I watched someone flip stall, I thought they were nuts. It's tough at first, but practice it enough, and eventually it just clicks. Start by just placing the bottle on the back of your hand and finding the sweetspot where you're most comfortable "holding" it. Then practice the "pop up" part. It'll click eventually, I promise!
You are such an excellent teacher, thank you for these videos. I've seen all of them up to about #14. I've got the technical aspect of most of the moves down but it is going to take some time to get really flashy with it. I do however review your videos every few days and I pick up something new from them each time. My customers seem to delight in watching me and business has improved. Thank you, this was the edge I needed.
You do a nice job comparing to some other bartending video demonstrators with your ability to 'converse' with the camera and not the monitor trying to see how you look. Also you are not redundant nor too quick with details. You know your content well, no cue card choppy reading and it seems like you generally know what you are tryiung to get at not feeling for miniscule tidbits of information. Nice of you to take time to do these vids. Thx
Hey. I have really small hands and whenever i try and do this trick the bottle misses my hands. It also really hurts my hands when the bottle hits my hands. I was just wondering if you have any advice for helping me with the trick!
Like I wrote in an earlier comment (scroll down) small hands may make this slightly more difficult, but definitely not impossible. As for it hurting your hand, be sure you're using an empty bottle when you start. Also, some bottles are not as heavy as others (Grey Goose is heavy, Bacardi not so much) and lighter bottles will hurt less. But the best tip is to try and get your hand under the bottle at the peak of its arc - the less it falls, the less momentum, and the less it'll hurt.
@Caroline37831 Sounds like your bringing your hand up to the bottle, i find it best to slow the the bottle to a stop rather than just a dead stop (as in follow the descent of the bottle.) i can stop it dead now but took a good nights practice.
Also i realise this is a reply to a 11 month post, just hope people find it helpful.
so im new at this of course and have been practicing with a glass 1 liter Canadian Club bottle in my front yard. I can get the stall to land right in that "bridge" consistently. The only problem is I keep busting the hell out of my knuckles. Am I catching the bottle wrong or just doing it too many times in a row?
love your entire series, and certainly the best instructionals out there. Keep up the good work.
you have to cushion it more, so just "go down with your hand once under the bottle, and it won't hurt anymore. Check the video again, and I'm shure you can see what I mean.
Oh, also it helps me spotting mistakes I do if I record myself so you can always compare :)
good work mate, it takes me a while to get the tricks to work but they eventually do. only problem is i have to practice with a deoderant can so its slow goings. can you tell me where you get a practice bottle or do you just go out and buy a cheap bottle of anythin and use that?
yea dude i would like to know that as well right now iam using a plastic water bottle thats a little less than half filled and it hurts as hell when i cant catch it or i somehow mess the trick up lol

I worked with a girl who had the world's tiniest hands, and she could land some crazy stalls. You just have to practice harder than anyone else:)
