  • This version gives the song a weirdly eerie feel to it. Like, when you listen to the Kid A version it sounds like Thom singing a nursery rhyme, but this one sounds like he´s screaming one.

  • reminds me of a slowly melting snowman

  • This song is meant for a different state of mind than that of Morning Bell (Kid A). Try listening to this song when you are tired or exhausted, and it will shed the blatant light on this song that it deserves. This song, along with the album, are for this state of mind, and utterly beautiful in it. When you compare these to their Kid A counterparts, they seem less accessible. Radiohead was making an artistic statement of emotional state here, and this song is supposed to be the bridge.

  • It just happened that this album was playing in my workplace the morning of 9/11.

My first child was born around the same time.

Very difficult and emotional listening now.

    Truly art however.

  • i like this version

  • The mood just keeps swithching through the song. Its kinda of happy and then its creepy. Then it gets happy/strange, etc.

  • Where have I heard this before?

  • Took me two days to realize there's two Morning Bells.

  • am i the only one who likes this version better?

  • The Kid A version is better

  • I like how this song is a reprise of the Morning Bell from Kid A. Should it have been a double album? .....“In some weird way, I think Amnesiac gives another take on Kid A, a form of explanation.” -Thom Yorke .....perhaps, but Amnesiac accelerates at a much different pace. Kind of like the smoke from Kid A's fire. And I mean that in the best way possible.

  • @idospeakenglish Thom Yorke also said: "I think the artwork is the best way of explaining it. The artwork to Kid A was all in the distance. The fires were all going on the other side of the hill. With Amnesiac, you're actually in the forest while the fire's happening."

  • Angry song, depressing vibe. Gotta love it.

  • I love many music bands, but only Radiohead makes me feel that there's nothing special in their music, and yet there is something very close to me, and very special to me and millions of people who feel the same.

  • If you take two guitarists and have do open chords of this song while another plays capoed chords (5th fret) it's just plain awesome

  • incredible. I can honestly say its my favourite song of theirs. It just carries on after it stops, its just that haunting and poignant. getting my pretense on

  • So much for the wisdom of Solomon..

  • Can someone please explain to me how everyone love kid a, yet doesn't care about amnesiac even though basically, they're one album. I mean, kid a was gonna be a double album, and amnesiac would've been disc 2. So they're basically one album.

  • @Stiny114 Yeah I can explain it. You're wrong.

  • @dude1305 How am I wrong?

  • @Stiny114 I think what you meant to say was that Amnesiac was comprised mainly of tracks that were recorded around the same time as kid A, so some people tend to think of Amnesiac as Kid A's overkill. they're wrong obviously, because Amnesiac is a fantastic album anyway.

  • @GeoMcEvan

I recall kid a being a huge dissapointment when it came out, and is still my least liked radiohead album. Amnesiac seemed to go down the same route but succeeded in all the areas the later failed and is one of my favourites from the band.

  • @GeoMcEvan It's like the way people compare "Sgt. Pepper" to "Magical Mystery Tour".

After looking through all the crap debates, I say people should just put up and shut up-"Kid A" is a carefully constructed masterpiece, and "Amnesiac" is amazing in its own way. It's bloody Radiohead. Go back to listening to crappy popular music or simple, cliched rock if you can't handle some creative exploration and experimentation.

This isn't directed at you, of course, but at people who slag "Amnesiac".

  • @TheOneartist finaly someone who talks sense

  • @TheOneartist you do realize that music thats POPULAR cant be crappy seeing as its decent enough for alot of people to like it.

  • @ngpdreamteam2k4 a lot of people like wrestling and kool-aid as well.

  • @Stiny114 Who cares , just enjoy the music

  • @Stiny114 its because kid A was filled with more exciting songs than amnesiac. amnesiacs has a really boring sound to it, cause all the songs sound sluggish. amnesiac had like 5 or 6 good songs on it, but there just so boring. the only song that was exciting on the cd was Knives Out. Amnesiac is a decent CD. KId A is an amazing cd because everysong wasnt just different, but they were all exciting n fun to sing along to. only bad tracks on the CD were Kid A n Treefingers.

  • @ngpdreamteam2k4

Amnesiac may have a boring sound to you, but certainly not me (and many others).

Kid A is consistently my favourite album of all time. I think 'Kid A' is a great song too.

And Treefingers to me is absolutely brilliant. Before you go ahead and call a song 'bad', have a

deep and focused listen to it. Maybe the song is conveying a message...

  • @engeladam409 i never said any of the songs were "BAD". what i said was that i think the songs were boring in comparison. i think amnesiac has 5 or 6 good songs, but its just a decent CD. nowhere in my post did i say it was bad. when i said it sounded boring i meant that none of the songs are gonna make me risk getting a speeding ticket while embarrassingly singing out loud for every one around me to see, like every song on kid a would except for Kid A, Treefingers, Motion pic.

  • @engeladam409 treefingers on the otherhand is a bad song, because its not even a song. its more like background noise, something like birds chirping in the morning. Kid A is nice background music if you take out the unnecessary vocals, but music is subjective so its whatever.

  • In Kid A's version theres the background noise that connects Idioteque and Morning bell and the cool time signature. And this one has the awesome bass and percussion. No idea which ones better xD

  • @DaxinatorProductions

I know, I can't decide between the two, either way, this is one of my favourite songs, regardless of version. Ahhh

  • This is a great version, but let's not forget that the Kid A version was in 5/4 time.

  • @timbar4 fuck the shut up

  • @jkucharsky sorry*

  • @timbar4 yo mama 5/4

  • @timbar4 9/8 in fact

  • @86JM86

    I hear 5/4.

  • @timbar4 but it's 9/8.

  • My god what an artist Tom Yorke is

  • I like this version a lot more, I used to like kid A's more and sort of hate this one. But if you listen to this enough you start to understand just how amazing this version is. The synthesizers, bass, ghostly vocals and "bell sounds" in the last 50 seconds of the song (starting at the last segment of "release me") make this song one of the most beautiful and tragic songs I have ever heard. I was at first put off with how eerie this version is but now think its intentional to highlight the endin

  • @beatlesrock4ever you can keep the furniture .....precisely.

  • why did they even bother with this version.. this is ass compared to the kid a version.. i would have expected the amnesiac version to be some kind of even crazier remix or something but instead its just like a conventional version of the original

  • cool song :)

  • @beatlesrock4ever

Er, let's not get carried away now

  • @hiberniate "Cut the kids in half" ... a stark reminder about the safety risks of high school woodworking classes.

  • Hmmm, I like the Kid A version better. (But I'm biased towards Kid A because it was my first Radiohead record.

  • thank you. This is just what I needed to hear.

  • Comment removed

  • @timbar4 come on, man...

  • I don't see why this version is any better. I like this one for it's soothing sound, but I like the Kid A version because it was in 5/4.

  • Would LOVE to hear this version live one day rather than Kid A's version

  • The bass the comes in towards the end of the song is fucking awesome

  • This is soothing. It is the end of a long day and this is the perfect music for me to fall asleep to...

  • 2:25 - Awesome

  • EPIC

  • 2 people missed

  • this version of morning bell seems scarier than the kid a version

  • Esta version es astral, me consumio el cerebro, me volo el cuerpo, no existo mas alla de esta cancion.

  • Whenever I have trouble studying for a test, I always listen to Radiohead to soothe my mind. So beautiful!

  • This reminds me of the Danny Elfman theme to Nightmare Before Christmas. Great song either this or the Kid A version.

  • @kaisamsa I like this one better honestly, but it's the same song same lyrics. Thom delivers it differently each time he plays it, but he sings it like this live most of the time.

  • great song

  • The Kid A version is SO much better than this. I mean, it's not bad, but not as awesome as the other version.

  • I like how this song's got too versions, I like to think of them as two sides of an argument, e.g. like two types of love, the calm controlled one (Kid A Version) and the crazy one. I never used to like it but it's really grown on me

  • You can hear a lot of Johnny Greenwood in this track.

  • I think the last three lines are a reference to the "Kid A" case involving Jon Venables, but it might just be me.

  • i hope that when i die, this song plays as my soul floats away into the abyss of the universe.

  • @SpringtimeRosePetals i as well

  • @SpringtimeRosePetals you are a cool person

  • @SpringtimeRosePetals lol, seriously?

  • @Lunaedea7 yep, dead serious.

  • @SpringtimeRosePetals the abyss of the universe?

  • @beatlesrock4ever Wow high five dude, everybody always takes that literally, like Thom Yorke is talking about killing children lol

  • I prefer the the Kid A version, but this is cool too.

  • this version was better in kid a, kid a is nuch more instrumental and less rock

the original version has a more audibule guitar just like amnesiac has more guitar songs than kid a

optimistic,in limbo and morning bell are the only songs with electric guitar on kid a

  • i cant believe some thinks this is boring???

  • The lyrics on Kid A majorly (not 100%) have NO meaning.

  • @Tengent If your source is a quote from the band, you misunderstood them.

  • @ThomYorkesHead Yeah, I took that out of context some. There's a video called Reflections on Kid A on Youtube. In it, Thom said he had writers block and took everything he wrote, cut it up, and mashed it together. "It's not trying to emote, it's just a part of what's going on." He says Everything In Its Right Place, Kid A, National Anthem, Optimistic, In Limbo, and Idioteque are all wrote that way. So does that mean they have meaning? I personally do not think so.

  • @Tengent He still wrote it and obviously Yorke wasn't entirely truthful when he said he just threw everything together. Yorke tends to lie because of a lack of confidence in his lyrics and convictions. Optimistic, Idioteque and Morning Bell all have separate themes. Mashing it together somewhat allows the context to present itself.

Nonsense can have meaning or weight in context. Look at the art movement dadaism.

  • @ThomYorkesHead In Limbo

  • i had a chance to see these guys live here in dallas with my cousin and he kept saying to me to forget about work and callin but i didnt! and he came back the next day all drunk still saying it was the best experience he ever had! gah i feel like a dumb ass! i should have listin to him and went to the damn concert

  • this version of the song from kid a is better to me cuz it seems darker. i like how the song goes slower than the kid a version. like if im tired i can put this on and just chill out i love it.

  • AMAZING PIECE. This version is many many many better to that of Kid A.

  • yes!! im agree, is the most wonderful version from morning bell, porque es increibleee todo lo que hace radiohead !!

  • @MissLavigny

    a huevo!

  • i love KID A more than Amnesiac, but this morning bell version is the most WONDERFUL

  • radiohead, always dark always mysterious.

  • you sure it's about divorce? it sounds like someone just up and leaving someone else. "you can keep the furniture/a bump on the head..."

  • @lonsumtravlr It's ironic that you're questioning whether or not the song is about divorce, and yet you use that part of the song as an example. While furniture may not seem like it wold relate to divorce, most often in divorces things can get a bit ugly and stressful when you have to decide who keeps the smaller, less important stuff like furniture or pets you know? But in less serious relationships it's easier to let go of that stuff

As for the bump on the head part... idk. It's radiohead lol

  • @FooPerson I think you might be misreading or misinterpreting me. I'm not questioning that it COULD be about divorce. I'm saying that it could be read as the thought of someone who's in the midst of some sort of very messy, bad, abrupt end to a relationship, even if it's not a marriage. I agree with what Thom Yorke is said to have commented about this song... it's definitely a violent song.

  • @lonsumtravlr

    "cut the kids in half"

  • Of course the version of the KID A is a lot better...that version has an extraordinary percussion and this one is a little boring....even Amnesiac is a good album (great songs like You and whose army) is not as eternal and classic like KID A is.

  • Love em both. This one works so well on Amnesiac, whereas the original fits Kid A perfectly

  • this is the original version.

  • wow this is so true this song captures some of the nightmares of domestic problems "where'd you park the car where'd you park the car" "release me release me" good point

  • i actually like this version more than the kid a one.

  • @delimonbombon That's a Matter Of Opinion.

  • @delimonbombon same here broseph

  • .....

    stupidest comment i've ever read.

  • its true so what

  • I like the rhythm of the Kid A version better. This version is more dirge like.

  • both versions are awesome

  • Whats this version this is the best one

  • I love this version

    Its melodically haunting, just beautiful

  • This is accoustic version of morning bell

  • «Cut the kids in half»

Reminds me of my teenage's life

    Since my parents are divorced

    Sad

  • Is this song about a divorce? It certainly seems that way: keep the furniture, release me, and of course, cutting the kids in half.

A beautiful song to say the least. :)

  • I've always preferred this one to the Kid A version, since the first time I heard it. It's dark, and eerie, and beautiful, and that's not to say that the Kid A version isn't amazing, because it is, but this one takes the cake.

  • Yeah, what instruments are used in this version? It's like a combination of bells, xylophones and keyboard.

I kind of prefer it to the Kid A one.

  • And wow, this song always reminded me of a Tim Burton movie.

  • Amnesiac is such an underrated album. It takes the wonderous excitement and novelty of Kid A and dashes it to the ground with even more eerie, but just as beautiful, songs. This track feels like a hallow shell of what the original one was. It's simply amazing.

  • where can i find the kid a version?

  • Just type in "Radiohead Morning Bell," and a Kid A version should come up. Or, you can type in "Radiohead Kid A album," then go to playlists, and listen to the whole Kid A CD, which would have "Morning Bell" on it.

  • I heard this version first so I really do like it a lot cause it sounds so scary. I think I like Kid A version a liiittle bit more just cause of the noises Jonny makes with his guitar are unreal.

  • Kid A is much better.

This one's nice and dreamy but it can't match the incredible energy that builds to amazing climax on Kid A.

  • thats not true

  • What a pointless statement. Why even bother typing that?

  • To give his opinion just like most ofd the people here?

  • This version is way better then the Kid A one

  • @therealbauer you are so right but still nothing they do is wrong to me. You clearly have good taste too.

  • @therealbauer Why was this comment voted up? This version is much, much worse than the Kid A version: it sounds like a strung out, doped up version. Morning Bell is such a beautiful song, and they somehow managed to completely obscure that beauty with a bunch of distorted synthesizers. @kaisamsa, cmon be honest: this is awful lol. I love almost all of Radiohead's music, but nobody is perfect.

  • @bernlin2000 I thought it was good, at first I thought it was better than the Kid A one. Maybe because I heard this one first, so maybe people just like which one they heard first, and most will probably have heard the Kid A one first.

  • @bernlin2000 you've gotta work it....

  • @bernlin2000 thats your opinion man i personally like both versions equally

  • @therealbauer I agree. It feels a lot more spacious and better suits the lyrics.

  • @therealbauer no way.

  • @therealbauer while they're both awesome, the Kid A version is a little more so

  • To the comment regarding the bible: you are talking about King Solomon.

This music is tenebrous, it inspires fear and makes me feel alone and surronded by hell.I love it.

  • Yeah I like this version better than the Kid A version, but they both are pretty awesomesauce

  • i wonder why radiohead decide to put mor ing bell in amnesiac

  • Because is awesome ; D

  • OH SI

  • you're right but both are awesome.

  • Not exactly, if you listen to this one, this one achieves the anger and violent sound that Thom Yorke was really aiming for.

  • Do some research? Into what? You douche. I prefer a certain version of a song. That's it.

  • the ending is similar to karma police with the rolling crescendo in the background.

  • Kid A's is quite a bit better.

  • moningbell is sick though.but in reality every radioehead album has great music on it.

  • nah i think this verison is better. the ending is so ethereal and i feel Kid A's version just lags on with the repetitve drum track

theres a crazy story behind the two versions, something along the lines of thom wrote it but forgot it then remembered it in a dream or something while on a plane in a thunderstorm. no joke

  • Comment removed

  • agreed, My favorite part is Cut the kids in half, it comes from a part of the bible where a king decides to cut a living child in half and give each half to both of the people who claim to be the kids mother. The real mother is the only one who rejects this obligation, therefore he found out who it was. but since the songs about divorce, it also means dividing the children up in court, one kid spends time with mommy, and another with daddy, they are literally emotionally cut in half. Sad really.

  • Great analyzation!

  • one of his best songs

  • why isnt this on their gretest hits?

  • Because EMI are total asses that made the compilation without Radiohead's permission.

  • Thom:How could they make any compilation of greatest hits when radiohead doesn't have any?

    LOL

  • They can just call it Greatest Hit CD/ Single.

  • I love both versions but I think that this has the edge, maybe its just cos I heard it beforeMorning Bell kid a though.

  • i feel the same way.

  • no drumm ?? Fuckk

  • wow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sad this is not on the best of makes no sense.

  • This one's good but I think the Kid A version is better. Much darker and creepier, just the way I like it.

  • Big difference between versions is that this song is in common 4/4 time, while the Kid A version is in 5/4 time.

  • Sorry you feel that way.

  • 10/8 time, which is for all intents and purposes 5/4.

  • sounds more gothic to kid a

  • lol wut
