  • hello! what is your job if you dont mind be asking? im about to go to AF BMT and right now my job is open mechanical. im really hoping ill get to choose TACM and get stationed in italy. so i was wondering if id be living on base or get housing like you?

  • when you called it "group housing" were you saying that because other people lived there with you and your family?

  • Miss my place in Tamai.

  • Thanks for making this video. We are coming there again in March and trying to find the best option.

  • When this was posted I had never been to the dorms. I've seen some since then and they're not really bad. I've seen worse, to say the least. When are you possibly heading out here? The job seems to take a toll on a lot of people out here. I wouldn't get too excited until you get here. Most people will tell you that....if they're honest.

  • For Xboxfanatic: you were able to do the advance sign up because you were in Korea. Coming stateside or any non-remote place, they won't allow you to do it. It's something special they do for you.

And I lived in Ceolini BTL for a year. It was ok. But the drama was absolutely awful :( And the landlords were failing to keep up with fixing all the problems we had. We now live on the economy in Roveredo in Piano and love it here. That house did look nice tho. I wish that house had been an option

  • Pretty nice place you got there... When my dad got stationed there in '69-'73. We lived in the hotel Oliva for a few months before we got a place in Budoia. No housing on the base then. We had to buy our light fixtures, and rent plywood wardrobes and a propane stove from the base. As it was a new house then. No electricity for months. Until they strung a crude wire down the road to us. No phone, ever. Dad kept a walkie talkie for his alerts. You got it made dude!

  • These are the nicest of the housing I have seen in Italy

  • @eliwolford08 You can place an application in 1yr out. I do have to tell you though that they are attempting to do away with quite a bit of the set aside homes. They rented them from local nationals for ten years and now they are giving them back; however with that said you can still do the advance application and there will still be set aside homes available. I put mine in at Korea about 5 months out and was second on the list when I got here. Let me know if you have any more questions.

  • How soon is to soon to place the application in? we should be moving in May-June 2011?

  • pmel HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUA

  • Hello,

I just wanted to say thank god you posted this video!!! My husband just got orders and we leave in November.... I'm not to thrilled, don't get me wrong it a big opportunity to be able to live in Italy..... But I'm not really looking forward to my family being so far away.... Among other things.... Point being I was wondering if you could tell me, do you know if your allowed to bring pets?? I have two cats and I just cant think of living without them..... Thanks

  • @Mekeys2 yes you can bring pets. you need to get with your sponsor to find out all the specific things you need to do.

  • @Mekeys2 Hopefully you got your pets here and I am sorry that I did not respond sooner. I had completely forgot that I posted the video since I am not a big youtube fan. I just wanted the members moving here to realize what they could be living in. We brought our cat and dog here and they were a little shaken for a couple of weeks almost a month, but they learn. Your spouse might not enjoy the base though since it's a high ops tempo but Italy is AMAZING!

  • omg we live in this house! we still have that plant! lol were you guys just looking at it?

  • @txbeachbabe04 Ha ha, that's funny, then we live almost right behind you then. We took a end unit instead so that our little runt of a dog could run around and annoy me. I know quite a few people behind us since we hang out with them at the bus stop and what not. Well at least my wife does. There are those few neighbors though that tend to stay to themselves. Your not one of them are you? LOL.

  • @xboxfanatic08 how's the base overall? I might be stationed there. How are the dorms?

  • @xboxfanatic08 hahaha i probably was. my kids werent in school yet and the one that started school was in a special needs class so we never really went to the other side of the neighborhood. we lived next door to sharon.

  • so i had a question for you.. the housing in this video is the government based housing for aviano? it's not actually on base though right? the reason i ask is because i will pcsing there in a few months and i was thinking about going that route for at least the first year or so.. it just seems easier to transition that way. thanks a lot!

  • That's correct. The Government housing here is called "set aside housing or built to lease" It is off base and is located in several different areas such as maniago, pordenone etc. If you are coming here in a few months I would suggest going to the housing office where you are located at now and fill out an advanced application. Housing is hard to get here so you want to get your name on the list ASAP. If you need any more info just shoot me a message on here.

  • @xboxfanatic08 do they prioritize by family needs or just first come first serve? only asking cuz we heading there in a month and we had to hold off on most of our paperwork untill i gave birth so im a little worried we may not get a house right away.

  • @1800kissmyassxoxo I am sorry but as far as I am aware they do not do it based on family needs or there would have been many more families living in the houses then there were. I have found that most members of the military are unaware that they can do advance applications and I hope that they run across this and understand that it can be done so that you might be able to have a house almost as soon as you arrive. At any time if you have questions let me know. Anyone here can.

  • @xboxfanatic08 thanx for the info. but we ended up moving to budoia off base. they wouldnt let us put our name on a list until we got here.

and for anyone coming aviano be prepared to hear the word domani, all the fricken time.

  • There are pro's and con's for both sides of GHRP and living on the economy in Italy. As of this point it is very hard to get a house that is any larger than GHRP during PCS season. For those of you who come in at a different season, I would definitely tell you to try and stay on the economy to understand more of the Italian culture. For those of you coming in now. As soon as GHRP offers you a house and you turn it down TLA automatically stops. Like I said pro's and con's.

  • Those of you reading, DO NOT GO TO GHRP.

Jesus, you get to live in Italy in your life and you choose to live in a mini community with Americans. I mean why bother going to Italy if you're just going to stay in GHRP

  • Thanks for the comment. I don't disagree with you. GHRP housing doesn't bother me though. We looked at getting into the economy but housing is really hard to find at this time and GHRP would stop our TLA if we didn't take the house we were offered. I had that day to find a house or I was paying out of my own pocket every day there after until I found one. Which people are having to do a lot.

  • Welll.... first I'd like to apologize if I came off as rude. Second, I think GHRP is okay, I lived in GHRP when I was in Germany BUT its the same thing as being on base or almost in the US. If you can, you should check out houses in the Dardago area.....

But I also understand the different situation you are in. I moved to ITaly just as the Lira was changing to Euros in 2000 to 2008 where the Euro was massacring the dollar......

  • We've heard a lot about the Dardago area before we came out here. They said the main places we should look were Dardago, Brugnega, Maniago, Sacile and lastly in pordenone. The Euro is killing the dollar right now and it looks like it'll be rough out here for a little while...especially after having to buy a car just to get to and from work before my other car gets here. Thanks for the info though.
