in all honesty i felt so bad for the little kitty, how it went to the door and let out a little cry, i know its dumb because i should be feeling bad for daisy but...
@tokimasa121 What decade was this movie taken place. I know that it came out in the 1990's, but did it come out in the Late 60's, during the 70's or early 80's?
@rockypallo Judging from the music, this song and "Downtown", it's clear that it is set in the 60s. Have you ever seen "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"? Great movie. After that, they started shutting down a lot of asylums--the liberals thought that people were being inappropriately incarcerated (one of the themes of "One Flew Over...", and was partly true, and conservatives wanted to save money. But they went too far, and a lot of people who needed to be taken care of were out on the streets.
This scene did have an impact on me, when I first saw it in my high school psychology class. Great movie. Angelina Jolie did a damn fine performance in this film.
I would have thought that a girl like Susanna, having attempted suicide herself, would have been able to see this coming from a mile away. When Lisa gave Daisy a tongue-lashing the night before, there is no way that Susanna would have left her alone. She would have immediately gone upstairs and make sure that Daisy was ok.
@TheAgwoodliffe Yes she should, be she was having some migrane at the time and wanted to buy some food in the morning. Later in the movie, she says "i tried to talk with her, but it was too late". Very sad, but it might helped her "seeing" real death to become healthy.
It actually didn't happen like this. Lisa and Susanna weren't there and had nothing to do with it. Daisy killed herself on her birthday, and that was that. No persuasion or provoking.
As I clicked on this link, "gonna get along without you now" started on Windows Media Player - was funny in a demented kind of way lol.
brutal and painful scene though :(, more so when you see the little abusive episode before it, and more so when you've never seen the movie before. Especially if you've been in a similar situation yourself as Daisy was...
:( Wow Daisy got treat like a piece of garbage. Just shows how people can be so cold in the face of someone who is calling out for love and emotional stability.
I had a feeling for the past few years that Brittany was going to die, I had a gut feeling & it happened, it was so sad she died so young. I loved her spirit, her movies & how genuine she was to everyone she met. She was a true soul!!
She shouldnt be remembered for that even if it is true or not. She had friends and loved ones too just like I am sure you do. She should be remembered for her great acting and what a beautiful person she was while she was on this earth.
what difference does it make how the poor girl died why do you have to make a coonection between a film and reality, She passed away leave her in peace some of you should really think what if it were your family GOD
After seeing this movie just once many years ago, this scene STILL sticks in my mind to this day........and unfortunately was the role I most remembered Brittany Murphy for. What was a sad scene at first is now somewhat disturbing to see with her death today. It makes me wonder if life was imitating art (not in the way that she died that is), in that both her and her movie character had demons that they were dealing with, which they couldn't conquer.
Yeah there was a during the "pill swapping" sequence in Daisy's room that made me laugh, then I felt sorry for Daisy right after with the look on her face...
I think Lisa says something like "you know what I think, I think you need a poop, I think it's been days..." just her face and delivery of the line lol
For some reason, Daisy's face was a lot more blue in my memory. Then again, I was 13 when I first saw this film, and this scene just made me sick to my stomach. It was the first dead body I'd ever seen in an R rated film. Suicides always make me sick. Idk why really. Seeing this again, it's not so bad, and this is a really great scene with these two talented ladies. This is really my favorite film for both of them. They played their roles so well.
Winona was so good when she opened the door. her reaction was great. i give props to angelina as well, cause she was like "oh what an idiot" cause her character doesn't give a crap. good actresses!!
i was in vegas last month, and at one point one of the days, we walked outta the elevator in our hotel and this song was playing. it was creepy at second thought, but when i first heard it, it put a big smile on my face...as wierd as that may sound. the song is just so dreamy and dramatic, and noir i think? i love it. Can't Cry These Tears by Garbage (from beautifulgarbage) reminds me of this song :) i agree: fave scene
this scene did everything that i think it was supposed to. the cat, the song, winona's acting scared and hesitant to open the bathroom door. it was so powerful and stayed with me long after i left the movie theatre. one of my favorite movies of all time.

I feel sorry for Daisy, but I do think she liked it when her father abused her, that doesn't stop it from being abuse though.
As Lisa says, it was all she had ever known, and was probably in denial about it.
It just shows you how much incestous sexual abuse can fuck a person up.
