Excellent video series! I'd much rather watch someone doing a project for first time - mistakes and all - then a professionally made video by manufacturer that skip some parts thinking they are so easy not worth putting in. So kudos to you for taking the time to make this to share with all of us.
Good video. You didn't have to remove the color wheel housing as you call it, you can take the two color wheel screws out and the color wheel comes straight up. For those who also have issues with color after changing the wheel, there is a pin jumper on the circuit board that may needs to be removed. see >>>> fix your dlp dot com/2008/09/26/replacement-of-the-samsung-color-wheel-bp96-00674a/
Well i followered your instructios step by step, and guess what? I have my TV back saved a pile of $ thanks haxagontaginal. Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!! had to take the lens cover off to get the ribbon back in, then taped it down with new tape. My color wheel was shattered
@hexagontaginal well it seems like the major problem in the comments is the ribbon...someone said that the metal part should face the back of the tv. so far ive tried both ways and my tv wont turn on. (the back of the tv was on in both cases)
Thanks so much for these videos. Just something I noticed when I was fixing my Samsung HL-S6187W. My color wheel didn't seem to be damaged, but I did notice there was a small piece of plastic inside the color wheel housing. After looking at it closely, I noticed it was actually a small piece of metal with some glue around it. I took another look at color wheel, and noticed these are balancing weights. IF YOU ARE REPLACING YOUR COLOR WHEEL, MAKE SURE YOU LOOK FOR DEBRIS IN THE HOUSING.
Excellent instructions, dude! Followed all three parts, and it took me just over an hour to do the whole color wheel replacement and lamp assembly. Thanks for your post!
Great video...especially with the cat and the kids interruptions...i was dealing with the same thing...regardless, saved me a ton of money and aggravation dealing with a repair man who probably would've used the same video....Thx!
Hi question question! I'm not sure if my colorwheel is bad or not. Here's what happens:
I turn on the TV, and it appears normal for 30 mins or so. The colors go inverted and the screen flickers. Eventually it shuts off and all 3 LED blink.
I'm not sure if it's the colorwheel, or the circuit. I'm certain the lamp is ok because it stays on during the ordeal.
@izlude2 If you look at your owners manual it will tell you what the trouble code of all 3 LED lights blinking means. I believe the codes are in the troubleshooting section.
umm... yeah... you don't have to take apart all that stuff. As you saw in the video... remove the cables and screws to slide the chassis out of the TV... then just look for the 2 screws that are holding the color wheel in and take them out... and finally pull the color wheel up and out. That's it!! This video makes it seem ALOT more difficult than it is.
Hi. Could I have an information? Where did you buy the new color wheel? I'm Italian, and here you can't buy the single piece, but all the optical unit. I'm willing to buy the color wheel from foreign countries, but I don't know where I can do it. The model of my Samsung DLP Television is SP46L6HX. Waiting for your answer. Thanks :)
I replaced my color wheel and it worked for only two hours, then I turned it off. When I tried to turn it on, it had no picture. Any ideas as to what happened?
hexagontaginal .... thanks for posting all five of the Samsung DLP vids. I had a color wheel go bad and was able to replace easily with your assistance! YOU THE MAN. PS, I did have to take out the jumper on my set. New wheel mad a small noise and the color wasn't right with the jumper in.

my color wheel literally broke inside there...im assuming i should clean out the glass?

@JCGoYT probably a good assumption. You can read through the comments on the videos. You aren't alone in having the color wheel shatter.

Awesome Video. I followed direction to the tee and it worked perfect. Only think i didn't pay attention to was the RIBBON.
*Make sure the metal part of the ribbon faces the back of the TV. Otherwise you will get 3 blinking lights on the power button.
