Technically , The First Movie was The 1989 Film with Dolph Lundgren(complete with badly dyed hair).The Film was The First to give Frank A Background in Law Enforcement prior to becoming The Punisher , making him An NYPD Cop about to retire.This would later be repeated by The 2004 Film(in which he was An FBI Agent about to retire)& The Ultimate Comics(in which he was again An NYPD Cop about to retire).Ultimate actually took this a step further by having Frank`s Wife & Kids killed by Crooked Cops.
