  • The video quality is a little poor but I think that may also be the Big Chief James Wetherington in the front singing bass as well! That would fit considering that Jack and Rosie were in it and they were all in the Statesmen at about the same time! That makes this video a real southern gospel classic with Dad Speer and the Statesmen!

  • @Earnhardt3Maniac it is, theres also the Blackwoods London Parris, Doy Ott from the Statesmen is there

  • If you look closely in this video, you'll see a really young Jack Toney and a young Rosie Roselle in the choir group. Jack is in the front, Rosie in the back.

  • Wonderful. Those associated with these dear folks were indeed privileged

  • I just found out that I'm a distant relative of Dad Speer. This is amazing that these songs are still available via YouTube. Thanks for posting them. My mother used to sing some of these songs as part of the singing Rushing family! God bless you!

  • Arvin--thank you for posting these old videos!

  • SURE IS A BLESSINGJUST RECENTLY LOST MY LAST BRO.

  • God must have led you to download songs like this from the blessings we get for hearing them. god bless you

  • My Uncle Harold just passed away and this was his favorite song. :( Thank you and bless you for posting this.

  • @LovemyLeo1 You are so welcome, and I will remember you in prayer.

  • thanks for the speer family videos. mom and dad speer are my great aunt and uncle. my grandmother was dad speer sister pearl claborn, who along with dad speer and their spouses, lena speer and w.l. claborn founded the singing speer family back around 1920. pearl and w.l. left around 1928 to go into the ministry, and to raise their daughter, my mom. sorry but the real beginning NEVER gets told.

  • forgive my spelling please, I meant Mylon, not nylon.

  • I see John Hall, London Parris to the left of Big Chief, and is that Nylon behind the Chief?

  • Thank you so much for these videos. I was so excited to see my cousin, Charles Yates, standing right there by Mom Speer. He sung tenor with the Speers in the sixties. Thanks and God bless you. I hope you find more of these older Speer videos.

  • You are very welcome, however I think this is about all the older ones I have, I do have some tapes still on the missing list and maybe something will show up on a older tape.God bless .

  • i love dad speers he had a wonderful voice i bet he is singing in heavens choir making the rafters ring with sweet praises to our lord,.

thank you so much for the wonderful videos...

  • You are so very welcome God bless you.

  • Thank you and you are in my prayers.

  • Arvin, I just sent this video of Dad Spears to all my friends at oldtimegospelmusic.

  • Thank you and God bless.

  • Great, Arvin. Dad Spears was always a favorite of mine. I use to have a cd with him singing, "Time Has Made a Change" but have misplaced it. 5*****

  • all of the statesmen/blackwood/rangers quartets are there

  • This too, is the first time seeing Mom and Dad Speer. I've been 39 for a couple of years now ( I refuse to age beyond 39) so I never saw them before. How neat it is to see some of the SG greats in their younger days and some I've never seen before like Big Chief. I'm pretty sure Jake is in there as is Jack Toney.

  • REALLY GREAT POSTING

  • How can anyone say the old hymns are dead. If this doesn't touch your heart there is something wrong. AWESOME!!!!!

  • I thought it was him. I love how our age loves southern gospel groups like them.

They sure set the standerd that, even today, I feel groups haven't matched. Though I love the music today :)

  • This was the first clip I ever seen Of Dad/Mom Speer. I remember listening to the Speers as a kid (I'm 37 now) but, never the Mom/Dad Speer era. This is beautiful to hear. How anyone can not feel touch by this, I don't know. Btw, is that Chief in the front row?

  • Yes that is Big Chief from the Statesman Quartet...I grew up listening to the Speer Family(My all-time favorites)...They would come to our church all the time....I don't remember Dad & Mom Speer either (I'm 35).....but I always heard them on my Grandma & Grandpa's LPs
