Jesus is the God of the OT. The punishment for breaking the law was death, when living "under the law." Now we are living in the age of grace, repentance and forgiveness. This period of "living under the law" had to be afforded man, to prove that we are sinful beings in need of a Savior and we need to be transformed through Christ.
That story is what first attacted me to call myself a Christian. But guess what. Today Christianity has been overwhelmed by fundamentalists who do not believe in the mercy and forgiveness Jesus shown to this woman. Today Christians "take back" that whole story, and claim that it was a mistake and should have never been in the Bible at all.
"The earliest and most reliable manuscripts and other ancient witnesses do not have John 7:53-8:11." -NIV bible
Jesus made clear that he was/is God (OT/NT) when he said, I AND MY FATHER ARE ONE AND THE SAME!. In the OT God is angry at his creation, but in the NT God is reconciled to man because of what Jesus came to do. The letter of the law in the OT gives way to the heart of the law in the NT. Those that wanted to stone the woman were as sinful as she was and Jesus knew this. He points out their sin and shows them to be nothing but hypocrites.
"Let he that is without sin among you cast the first stone." Wow, I bet child molesters and wife beaters really like this verse, as it protects them against being judged or condemned by society.
Well this is an interesting video. I don't think your effort went to waste.
I don't recall in my reading that Jesus stating that he was God of the Old Testament. I do agree with your assessment of his comment regarding those "without sin" ...very good answer to their question.
@Sjarke98 Jesus said that in the OT that God allowed them to do many things that are NOT right, not because God approved of their actions but because of the hardness of their hearts. After Original Sin entered the world, mankind became like beasts driven by their evil passions and desires, and not having the life of grace, they could not raise themselves to the level of sanctity for which God had created them. After Jesus's death & the Holy Spirit came, it is when we can strive for sanctity.
Yeah, thats all logical & stuff, but jesus & god works in mysterious ways, the bible says so. Who is i to believe, logic & all that common sense tells me or da bible. Heck, i know that chances are very slim that i'll live past 100, thats such a short time period, maybe i'll just live my life and worry about the tough questions in the next life...?
Good video. I remember reading an old Jack Chick comic where the slaves were forced to work in Egypt. In it were the words, "...after watching his children suffer for 400 years, the Lord was not going to take it any more!"
What? I'm sorry, but if one of my children were made to suffer at the hands of another, I'd be involved that second. What sort of god sits by and lets his children suffer, live their entire lives as slaves and die out...for 400 years?
@AmosTheTalented how long do you think God shld allow us to live in sin? Should he go ahead and kill us as soon as we commit a mortal sin and are enslaved by it? That's what the story of the slavery of Egypt means. It is not to be taken literally. It means slavery to sin. After God delivered them and they were in the desert, they longed to return to Egypt (sin) that's human nature for you! The prodigal son wished to eat the same food of the pigs after he had squandered his father's fortune: LIFE
@AmosTheTalented It is literal and it also has a significance for all times. God spoke in parables written with the lives of the people of the Old Testament. If the Jews (the chosen people) were delivered from slavery, we, the chosen ppl of God (Christians) are also delivered but from the slavery of sin. The life of Abraham, Father of our Faith, and the sacrifice of his only one son Isaac), Moses (saw God face to face, known as the "savior", Joseph (sold for 30), they all prefigure Jesus, poetry!
wait, how do you forge a book that is a compelation of myths made over the course of a thousand years? the bible is a compilation of works by many authors, there is no forgery in it.
if we really want to consider the bible as a whole, we should look for the books that were rejected to be put in it when it was cannonized. i mean its not like any of the bible stories say that the ceasar had god's divine wisdom to edit the bible.
According to Bart Ehrman (biblical scholar) the part about the adulteress and 'he without sin cast the first stone' was added in at a later date by someone else other than the author of the rest of that gospel. It's a forgery..... along with quite a few other stories in that book (written by someone other than claimed) and according to Mr Ehrman this isn't disputed by most biblical historians.
Compilation aside... parts of the bible are not written by who claimed to write them.

Good thing that there weren't any engineers around. They would have just built a machine (which is obviously without sin) to cast the first stone.

Either God knew that the OT law would be changed in the future, when he made it or he didnt.
If he didnt know, he is not omniscience, and he is capable of making mistakes, making him imperfect.
If he knew, he is malevolent. Malevolence is not perfection.
So either way, the God of the bible, cannot possibly be treated as perfect.

@NONAROSSA If that event among others in the bible are not to be taken literally, then do you (as I do) propose that they never took place?

Lol, your music made my ears pop.
I wonder how many women were stoned to death before God decided to add that little footnote?

This entire story about the adulteress was added in later by someone else other than the claimed author. It's a forgery.
It is a cool way to solve the problem. Too bad 'John' didn't think of it.
