@Jononutoob You don't even know why he sent the troops in. One of the members of his administration said to Saddam that they had "no opinion" on Kuwait. However, this means that the country is free to be invaded. Kuwait's invasion wasn't meant to happen, and so we had to come in to correct that mistake. Again, he probably tried to find different ways to get the economy out of the recession. Raising taxes was the only possible solution, however.

He actually taked with congress on how to get out of the recession inherited from Reagan, and raising taxes was the only solution. He also increased it for everybody, not just the poor. @Jononutoob You don't even know why he sent the troops in. One of the members of his administration said to Saddam that they had "no opinion" on Kuwait. However, this means that the country is free to be invaded. Kuwait's invasion wasn't meant to happen, and so we had to come in to correct that mistake. Again, he probably tried to find different ways to get the economy out of the recession. Raising taxes was the only possible solution, however.

Since Reagan pushed the arms race to its limits in order to hard-line the Soviets and win the COld War, there were huge economic problems because of Reagan's tactic. This made it so Bush was forced to raise taxes or the economy would have gone to sh*t (most notable: there was a huge mortgage crisis at the time).
