Ok, a newer Mac computer beats out an older PC? Not surprising. However, take out all the added startup features from that PC (i. e. virus protection & P2P quickstarts, etc.) and run Windows bare like that Mac and I bet you it is a much closer race.
Seriously... I have both PCs and Macs (each of similar specs) and, honestly, they pretty much load comparably. Each one has its pros and cons versus the other.
Full disclosure: after using both Macs and PCs for years, I prefer PCs simply because they give me far more native control of the system and the total cost of ownership is far less. I only use my Mac for music/sound engineering in order to be compatible with some other individuals in that business, though that's changing.
Put that Macbook up against my HP G50 2008 2.00 Ghs Intel Dual Core Duo processor, 3 GBs of DDR2 RAM 250GB HDD, it would chew up that Macbook and spit it out.

Have a look around the internet and you will find OS X loads faster than Windows even if the windows machine is higher spec'd.
Also, have a look at some benchmarks between vista vs leopard, and you will find that leopard won on basically all tests, even though the pc had an advantage with the hardware. OS X Leopard even outperforms brand new Windows 7. The new Snow Leopard has better gaming performance than windows as well.

I don't use "bootup enchancement programs" this is a solid fast computer programmed by and for my perferences.
Im still working on my intel bios, because the recent update has made my bootup slower so i will be working on bootup. but shutdown, I'll gladly run you in that.

how can you compare two notebooks which are 5 years away from each other technologically and about 4 years by the means of OS... I'm not a Apple fan and not a PC fan... I use both and I'm pleased by both... both OS have their pros and cons. Personally i would recommend a PC as a desktop an a MacBook/Pro/Air as a laptop because usually you have more time using a PC so you don't care about the slower boot up... Just an obvious example would be the splash screen, which gives options of settings and things like overclocking. the other day i saw the macbook 13 inch black 1gb ram and 160gb hard drive for $1600 and a Vaio CR with 2gb of Ram and a 200gb hard drive intel core 2 duo for 1300, you can also get an HP DV2000 for 800! with 1gb of ram and a 160gb hard drive. Dont buy a macbook.

ahaha its like Microsoft want XP to luk bad!! and its like they dont know how to make their own computers so they get people like DELL and PACKARD BELL to do it, and when you get to the desktop on a mac you can actually start using it! xp starts making noises and then try's to be kwl WELCOME with like a BLUe wide screen bar with silver shine, and when mac turns on its just an apple the xp one is all PIXELY and says aload of codes !!

the other day i saw the macbook 13 inch black 1gb ram and 160gb hard drive for $1600 and a Vaio CR with 2gb of Ram and a 200gb hard drive intel core 2 duo for 1300, you can also get an HP DV2000 for 800! with 1gb of ram and a 160gb hard drive. Dont buy a macbook.
BUT IF WE COMPARE THE MACBOOK WITH A 2004 256mb RAM and Intel M procesor of course its gonna be faster
