  • Always remimnds of Chandler being Shelly Winters from the Poseidon Adventure :DD

  • Not quite sure why it is classed as an adventure, more like a nightmare.

  • 1:34 twentieth Century F**KS

  • For a second at 0:15, that captain looked a lot like will Ferrell :P

  • where bought the movie about the poseidon adventure because I live in Mexico and not has a movie only titanic what making

  • This is not the 1st version of the movie. The 1st version was a silent movie and was being showed when the titanic hit an iceberg, kinda ironicly.

  • I'm gonna straighten out all you guys who are saying that this couldn't happen. First of all the captain says the ship was low on ballast. The wave that hit the Poseidon was NOT a tsunami. It was a rouge wave, which DO exist and can be generated by underwater earthquakes (which is mentioned in the film). So, the Poseidon, was low on ballast, and was struck by a rouge wave(which is also called a tidal wave) and capsized. Happy?

  • jimmy osmond is one of the actors

  • Even though I know Leslie Nielsen did have serious roles in films I still can't help thinking he's going to say something goofy/funny 'and don't call me Shirley!'.

  • They didn't even say mass

  • They're going toward the bow. But they're wrong. THE BOW IS UNDER WATER!!!

  • nostalgia for me

  • I actually like/love this film. I like/love it from the plot or scenes such as the scene where those people get thrown about in that room and injure themselves on pianos and get thrown on glass. I don't think my brothers liked/loved this film. This was never my favourite film. I presumbably was interested in ships and boats I also liked/loved the TV Show 'TUGS' and I actually want to work on the Queen Mary 2 when I am grown up.

  • I have such a crush on Pamela Sue Martin.

  • When it's an old film?

  • How was this trailer in HD?

  • I was 12 years old when I seen this awesome movie back in 1972. I seen at capacity filled theatre in Menomonee Falls, WI. What a fantastic film!

  • @rickram1961... Same here, rickram1961. Except I was 10 yrs. old when I seen the movie back in 1972. Man that's kinda young to see a movie like that, non:) My gosh, there was even smoking in the cinema way back then. Eventually changed it to only the back 10 rows. Then to only up in the balcony. And then it was banned. Anyhoo, like yours it was at a capacity filled theatre in Welland, Ontario Canada; The Park Theatre. . And yes it was a fantastic film. Ciao

  • Great Movie!

  • This is a great movie.

    So many stars too.

RIP to those who died since this film came out.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • There's a reason this movie made more money than the remake, and it wasn't the special effects....

  • LESLIE NEILSON;;;;;;;

    R.I.P.

  • Infierno en la torre y La aventura del poseidon son peliculas que jamás olvidare.

    El Vicho

  • Don't hate me but...this wasn't the first Poseidon Adventure. The first one was made in 1911 and most ironically of all was shown on the Titanic as it struck the iceberg that claimed the ship.

  • @Frienmugenheight That's nothing but a rumor and a hoax. Snopes.com started it and it is a gigantic lie. Titanic didn't even have a theatre. Please don't believe it. Paul Gallico's novel wasn't even written until the '60s. This is the first film adaptation. Don't worry, I don't hate you.

  • @JPnintendofan Yeah man I broke my cardinal rule: Never trust just one source! After further research it's clear how absurd that claim is. Titanic did have a theater though....if you call a projector in the dining room a theater. Thanks for not hating me in my stupidity.

  • @Frienmugenheight I didn't even know the Titanic had a projector! Thanks for the fact! :)

  • Great film. Most of this fab cast have done many other great favorites of mine.

Gene Hackman: Superman Films, A Bridge Too Far, Unforgiven, The Birdcage

Ernest Borgnine: From Here To Eternity, The Wild Bunch, When Time Ran Out...

Red Buttons: Longest Day, Pete's Dragon, Viva Knievel

Roddy Mcdowall: Planet Of The Apes, Bedknobs & Broomsticks

Shelley Winters: The Diary Of Anne Frank

Jack Albertson: Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory

Leslie Nielsen: Airplane, Naked Gun Films, Spy Hard

  • @FAWLTYWORZELMELDREW

from all of them, i like gene hackman, shelley winters and jack albertson perfomance

and wow. i didnt know that willy wonka was him, now i am more happy in life :D

  • the only thing i dont like about the movie is the deaths there so fake lol

  • @RobloxTitanicMovie

    YEEEEEEEEAAAAHHHHHHHH.......SPLASH!

  • @aquelescaraaaaaaaaaa lol and AHHHHHHHH *thud*

  • @RobloxTitanicMovie linda!!!!

    Rogo! let them trough!......

    NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!*splash*

  • This is the most great adventure film.

  • Still beats the shit out of any fucking useless remakes, especially the one in 2005 where the fuckin' moslems blow up bombs. Does everything nowdays have to have a fucking islam connection?

  • carol Langley look hot so did Stella Stevens and when she was young Pam sue martin!!! wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • okay i wont look down

  • I heard it was the greatest disaster film of all time.

  • A little history relates that Irwin Allen took out a 2.5 million dollar loan from a bank to cover the financing obligations of the film, which Fox would not cover. History was made. The capsizing sequence is still amazing!

The remake, Poseidon, at a price tag of 175 million...very BAD indeed.

  • @kcj1974mem it wasnt a remake. sort of. it was wolfgang's vision of the book, but as it's own movie, it was pretty okay, and the special effects were fantastic.

  • tital waves can turn over ships like that freak wave that over turned a big ship in the bermuda triangle

  • The remake looks better, I've not seen neither of them, but I want to see the remake. The special effects for the newer are so much better.

  • Poseidon is the god of the seas. Poseidon was pissed someone called their boat his name....

  • This would be an awful disaster to experience, not that any disaster is good. But the ship being slammed onto its side, then going all the way under water until it's upside down, lord. The shot of the Poseidon with its superstructure and funnels under that dark green water still gets me. Picture what the Captain, bridge crew and any poor soul out for a midnight stroll went through.

  • Lol, imagine that, then imagine the original 1911 Poseidon Adventure film shot on the Titanic was shown to the passengers while the boat hit the iceberg and was scheduled for another showing that night since the passengers loved it so much. LOL

  • original ftw

  • The remake could have been a good movie it had good actors in it, but Mrs. Irwin Allen, who produced it, didn't use her husbands #1 rule of a good disaster script - don't kill your main characters off on page 8 (approx 8 minutes into the film); get to know them first then start killing them off on page 25. And as good as the actors were, they don't compare to the Oscar Winners in the original.

  • Leslie Nielsen....

  • The original from 1972 is 10X better than the recent remake!! Can't even compare!!

  • hey now its pretty good if u look at other movies from back in the day

  • These movies were all the rage in the 70's and we loved them, lapped them up. Then some bastard called Lucas made Star Wars and changed our lives forever!!!!!

  • Omg I love love love this movie.

Best movie ive seen in a long time!

  • many people would say Airport was the beginning of the "disaster" genre, and though it wasn't terrible it was too corny in places.i consider this movie to be the real start of the "disaster epic".

  • can somebody please upload Our Time(1974)..pamela sue martin and parker stevenson..pleaseeee

  • This film TOUCHED me!!! The cast, amazing!!! But very sad (in 0:55, when the Xmas tree fell down with the (poor) people - tears!)...the songs in the end; 'cryful'!!!

  • i rember watching this as a kid...omg i was so scared

but i rember loving the "feeling" while watching it, this film had a special atmosphere...

  • Stella Stevens was packin' heat!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is one darn good film. Even with the special effects of the remake, none could match this. I mean, come on, you put Gene Hackman and Ernest Borgnine together and there's bound to be a great result.

  • Best film!!!

  • The book is much better

  • so ugly.. the remake is better.. (i am lying..) ^_^

  • I have both the original and the remake on DVD. Both of them are cool, and pretty intense!

  • One of the best movies ever made. The sequel wasn't bad either.

  • Leslie Nielsen didn't have a clue that he will be making comedy & making people laugh just 15 years later!

  • This was a Disaster Movie that was not a Disaster at the Box Office! Very Good Movie! Better than the new one they made!!!!

  • ***This was one of the best movies i had seen in a long time***

  • why did the guy at 1.12 fall and die? i remember when i watched it i had no idea why he let go.

  • Cute!

  • Tidal waves on the open ocean are about 2 inches high travelling at about 500 mph. They don't get large until they are about to reach the shore. Fantastic movie but scientifically inaccurate

  • perhaps but this is whats called a rogue wave, they explained a bit more about them when they released the second version and you can also look it up on wikipedia

  • Wrong, Wrong, Wrong.......Haven't you ever heard of "Rogue Wave's"????? That is what hit the ship in both the original and the remake. They are caused by earthquakes under the ocean floor.

  • @JWJNC

I think freak waves are not caused by earthquakes. Such a wave accrues when fast, long waves hit slow waves from behind.

  • This film is a classic!

  • beyond the poseidon adventure sucked and

the poseidon adventure rocked. and the remake was pretty sweet

  • I think, "adventure" is a much too harmless word for such a tragedy.

  • Wtf god this was a awesome movie

  • I wish the bratty little eight-year old kid had been among the 1,400.

  • He was in the book. LOL He went to the find the bathroom and never came back. But back then in the movies you couldn't kill off a kid. LOL The movie was awesome and I saw it as a kid at the drive in theater. It made such an impact on me. The book was much better, but usually that is the case. The remake was good, but it didn't have the impact that the original had.

  • That's funny, I first saw it in '72 at a drive-in too. My parents and I were in our car, and our neighbors and their son, who was my best friend at the time, were in their car right next to ours, and we kept laughing and waving to each other over some of the lame dialogue (particularly Ernest Borgnine's cursing and constant complaining, and Stella Stevens telling him to shut the hell up! -- "I know what suppatory is!"-- LOL). But the part where Shelly Winters died was very sad and emotional.

  • the plot is excaping, not 1400 people dieing, you have obviously not seen the movie

  • You do realize that it's obvious from the very beginning that most people will die, I hope. It's not a secret, and I mean, come on, they say the actors names to say who was in it!

  • chuck norris played the wave

  • wow, for christmas, my dad got a ROKU netflix instant watch player, u get to watch the instant watch movies on ur TY, i just watched thisone about 20 minutes ago, not as good as the 2006 version, but it kept me entertained, i reccomend this =D

  • Not as good as the remake????? Oh my god, you must be a young person because the original had so much atmosphere and you actually cared about the characters. The new one had plenty of CGI, but will never light a candle to the first one. I never felt for the people in the new one that I did in the first one.

  • the original isnt bad, i loved it, but the acting was more believable and i could actually imagine myself in their position

  • @JWJNC serious i agree there was really sad to see the cast die off in the 70s one but i have to admist seeing the remake and what happened to the ship when it turned over twisted my stomach to hell it really did scare the hell out of me and truthfully i cared more about the ship getting hurt then the people hope that doesnt make me a bad person

  • I want to watch this movie before I go on my cruise, 12/14/2008.

  • see this is what makes this movie different than the remake. this movie is an adventure meaning it's purely for fun and has not one scary moment. the other is claustrophobic, explosive and actually matters when someone dies. not just "LINDA, LINDA, NOT MY LINDA...so what next?". 2006 POSEIDON ALL THE WAY!!!

  • thank you for remembering us the old version of this movie,i have recently seen the new one, wich is to much better of course.

  • It was said from other actors on the set that Shelly Winters would eat hot chile with her bare hands. I dont know why anyone would do this but I guess its because its Shelly Winters.

  • i like the old version better

  • como no recordar esta pelicula , lo vi hace muchisimo es un clasico

  • this movie rules, the bickering between hackman and borgnine about what way to go makes this film even better

  • Seems like when a rouge wave hits a cruise ship, the room that gets submerged first is the room where they drive the ship.

  • ins not a tsunami its a rogue wave

  • Since the Asian Tsunami on 12/26/2004, we now know what the author and director of this book and movie obviously didn't ... there is no way a tsunami would have hits this ship, as tsunamis in deep water are only inches high and bareley felt.

  • Good point.

  • What would take out a ship ... most definitely, is a rogue wave -- like the one that hit the Andrea Gail, lost at sea during the perfect storm of 1991.

Maybe they just had the terminology wrong, huh? LOL!

  • @Beatpoet7371 "Tidal wave" is a misnomer, yes, but rogue waves (check the Wikipedia entry, to which -- to my annoyance -- youtube won't let link) are real and could produce the same result. Fortunately, they're quite rare, so much so that their occurrence has only recently been confirmed (see link).

  • @Beatpoet7371 For your info sir, even though your comment is 2 years old, that it wasn't a tsunami that hit the Poseidon it was a rogue wave.

  • Oh my God. It's a movie, it's fantasy. Go watch the Discovery channel.

  • @Beatpoet7371 you may be right about tsunamis, but the ship used in the original movie, the Queen Mary, reportedly had stability problems and was hit badly twice by rogue waves (not sure of the cause), once during WWII and another time later by a wave that almost turned the ship around. I have read that the author Paul Gallico was on board the ship during the second hit and that's where he got the idea for the book (couldn't confirm this anywhere).

  • Its my all time favoite film. I just did a tribute to it on my weekly radio show found on my website ENTERTAINMENT TODAY AND BEYOND

    - GOOGLE IT AND LISTEN- I also do a top 10 best disaster movie countdown!

  • Which one is supposed to be Helena?

  • you cant mess with irwin allen is the best

  • I'm right with you on that one. Gene Hackman? Shelley Winters? Pamela Sue Martin! Babe of the century! Come on!! There's just no question. These kids just don't know what they're talking about.

  • lol red buttons

  • The newer movie is better.

  • Oh no no no.

  • The new version was ok but this one is better.

  • YES to the originals! The REMAKE is a crap (except Fergie! ...or not).

  • I thought it was ok... I still like the original better though.

  • it looks good!

    :D

yyet the poseidon 2006 is way better!

    :D

  • yess! lol much better

  • perfect casting, acting! but I hate trailers that show too much!!!

  • Better than the remake Poseidon (2006)

  • This movie is way better than its remake!!!!

  • posiedon adventure original clip okay can anyone answer this --why can't they give us the original silver screen copy !?like close encounters had done.,

whats now a "special edition " phoney copy

is no more than laser disc transfer not true 70 mmm transfer the film is missing footage

I know so well, rogo's wife slaps child and screems come on kid missing on DVD ...

also DVD sound needs fixing high pitch whistle when bornine screems you preacher !

where oh where is the film !?waaaaaa

  • What a stupid trailer, it tells you everything, you don't need to see the movie.

  • So the actors were on the ship instead of the characters? I'm really confused now. I Jack Albertson was on the ship, why did they keep calling him Manny? Jewish mob connections?

  • I didn't know Lesile Neilson was in this movie!!!

  • And he rocked in it.

  • for 3 minutes...long enough to make a toast at dinner and a phone call to the engine room...

  • They made horrible trailers back in the day.

  • My favorite movie! Saw it at the drive-in when I was a kid. Used to re-create the capsizing with my cousin's Barbie dream house!lol Also used to have the viewmaster reels. Thanks for the 70's flashback.

  • great movie, damn dodgy trailer. lol.

  • thats evil...

  • the original was FARRR better, it's a bunch of crap they remade it! NO one can replace Gene Hackman!

  • great movie

  • Weird to see Leslie Nielsen in a serious rol.

  • great video

    beautiful video

  • i love the new poseidon but

i think the scene where the ship turns over in the old one is better

  • shame in the movie fergie dies hhahahahahaha lol lol lol

  • What on earth are you referring to?

  • the remake...

  • weeelllll...in the new movie, fergie plays this lady called gloria. she died when the boat flipped. shes in the credits. there is one song during the credits caled wont let you fall which is by fergie.

  • The original movie had a much better script.

Did the remake have the song "The Morning After" by Maureen McGovern?

If not, then the remake just totally sucks!

  • The original has way cooler effects too.

  • Is this a true story?

  • no it is not

  • An amazing film, far better then even some of today's movies. A brilliant cast, amazing plot, classic themes, ingenius actors/actresses..This movie is AWESOME! I am 14 and think this is one of the greatest movies of all time, all around. 10 STARS!

  • there's no sane reason to "remake" a movie like this. period.

  • Typically poor Hollywood big studio judgement. Chimps could do a better job deciding what movies should be made.

  • i never knew there was another movie, kurt russell movie sucked!

  • I thought the 1972 Poseidon (I saw that in 2005) was pretty good. And the 2006 Poseidon was also great. The new one had better special effects, but the older one had a bit of a "trapped" feeling because they didn't show above the surface. Both were good!

  • I like new poseidon, I think that it's much better !

  • Its like Titanic...only worse!(and by worse I mean more perilous, not bad, I love that movie!)

  • Amen! Thous shalt not remake a classic!

  • In some scenes it´s difficult to concentrate on the history. If you´re a male you can´t help but stare to the legs of Susan Shelby (Pamela Sue Martin) :-D.

  • No question. She was a major piece of a**.

  • was this a true story? which one do u like the best? the first or the newest one?

  • Not a true story. All Hollywood.

    Definitely the original.

  • It is true lol. True Roge waves are very rare. But some are real and they have been seen up to 30 feet tall! Could it flip a big ship over-no. But heck it would be a heck of an Impact.

  • The original is the best by far. All fiction. Based on Paul Gallico's actual experience aboard the Queen Mary one time when she almost turned over. It is a model of the QUeen Mary seen in this movie.

  • really?? I gotta see it then!

  • Oh yeah. You gotta check it out. It was a HUGE, HUGE blockbuster at the time. Like right up there with Jaws.

  • i like the newest poseidon. i havent seen this one though.

  • The original is THE ONE to see. Way better.

  • loved this movie have it on dvd the tv movie remake was ok the movie posideon was good to

  • Wow... haven't seen that trailer since about 1973! Now I remember why I was so crazy about going to see the movie. Was my all-time favorite while growing up. Guess it still kinda is today :)

  • Whooa! Roddy McDowell's box office draw was so expendable enough that he gets killed off in the

    trailer even?!

  • The Poseidon Adventure was sooo awesome. Except the little boy was really annoying. Shelly Winters was fabulous. I'd definately watch it again!

  • no it ain't it's ss poseidon. I like the sequel too! - Beyond the poseidon adventure. God i'm showing my age lol.

  • that ship is queen mary

  • it is cool i realy want to see it

  • that was my movie!i hat to see shelly winters die,i wanted her to make it,luv pamela sue martian, thanks for posting

  • Ahhhhhh, memories.. I think I saw this film 20 times when it was released :D Thanks.
