  • Your tutorial are always great and helpful...when it gets to 17:15 and open up the actions i get this "Current selection cannot have actions applied to it" ...i need help!

  • @junior7oh7 I am having the same problem!!

    Did you figure this out?

  • @junior7oh7 I am having the same issue on CS3. Did you ever figure it out?

  • @mrslink2 in the preferences for the clip, choose export for actionscript, and it will create an AS file that you can edit.

  • "siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiize!" u fukin queer!

  • great video thanks a lot!

  • All i want to do is a simple text for a navigation bar.

im converting the text to a button and then when i come to the action script it says that "Current selection cannot have actions applied to it"

its driving me crazy. i cant figure out how to do it.

it would be nice if you could help me

    thanks

  • Fantastic Tutorial! I've learned so much, and there's a lot of 'best practices' to follow that will save a lot of time on future projects.

  • LOL yeah the video is SUPER FAST in HQ, but seems to be fine in regular quality.

  • you talk wayyy to fast, please slow down :)

  • Dont people read..? Everyone's telling you to take away HQ, Theres a quality glitch, when its High Quality it becomes shortened to 15 seconds

  • As always your tut's are the best! If i'd want those buttons to stay in "down state" untill another button is clicked, i'll have to do the whole thing in actionscript, ye? I'm a newb sorry =(

  • kay

  • 4.5 star rating for this? wow they give you too much credit for all your other great vids

  • Too fast motherfucker D:<

  • calm down just watch in normal not HQ and its normal then

  • take it off HQ theres a glitch

  • thats toooooo faaaast for meee

  • Holy crap dude, you move too fast through the tutorial. Is your keyboard on fire?

  • uh... huuuuuuh? =O i have no idea what u did

  • take it out of HQ and it should be fine and its a great tutorial ^^

Tutvid is really good at making tutorials

  • how for god sake can you call this a tutorial when you speed it up and make it last only 14 seconds?

  • youtube did it

  • your website is not working and i cant try the hi-res stuff pls help!!!!!

  • Tanks a lot. I´m a total Flash Newbie and I´ve been searching very very long for the URL function.

  • Hy! I have a little problem in the "Action window"... I selected the button, but always say that "Current selection cannot have actions applied to it"

I have no idea how to link this button to my homepage.

    Please help!

  • Theres a difference between AS2 and AS3. In AS3 you must select a keyframe to apply the script. Doesnt work with buttons anymore..

  • i had the same problem. just right click the keyframe and select action.

  • Actually the way these tuts are taught is a good way for learning....As they are taught at a rapid speed it induces the brain to speed up a lttle to keep up with the lesson which in turn helps to assimulate more knowledge. I think these tuts are among the best on youtube and i'm actually starting to learn this stuff!!! keep up the good work tutvid and never ever change your style!!!

  • You are going waay to fast for a beginner.

  • I cant find a button navigation tutorial that doesnt go to a url. I want to do it internaly, it seems like it should be easy but when you dont know you dont know!!!!

  • "It's actually not a polygonit's a triangle." Good tutorial except for this flub. ;-)

  • Great tutorial! I would love to see a followup to this video where you show how to load movie clips on the same stage. Obviously the stage would need to be bigger. The purpose being to show navigation of a full flash site. This would combine nicely with your dynamic text/images/swf tutorial.

  • Hi awsome video as usual i just have a small proble at the end, everything was fine untill i tried putting action in, i can only click the frame not the button its realy quite annoying, any ideas? im using cs5

  • cancle this i changed my publish settings to flash 8 and now all is fine! great tutorial!

  • just click in the corner of this, grid, looking, thing ... lol

  • Hi, tutvid...I adore your tutorials...lol.

You rock, and I hope You won't mind if I do something like that for my site.

    You're amazing tutor. :)

    Congratulations

  • nicely done, helped a lot!

  • Because the man is thorough. Nothing wrong with that.

  • I know. He helped me a lot. Just saying... Yeah I guess you're right, helps you understand better.

  • its called a tutorial, where one person describes a process to another. it has been known to take more than 30 seconds

    noob

  • It's an excellent video, I have used him for help many times before. But next time when you want to reply to my comment, how 'bout you comment a little sooner than 3 months?

  • could u slow the tutorials down a bit

  • when i get to the part that i change the brightness on the base, on over and down....for some reason it does it to the whole thing i can't do it by keyframes, if i click on the base layer i get the down keyframe hilighted and if i highlight a keyframe i lose the color options obviously. please help.

  • How would you implement this navigation bar in Dreamweaver (CS3)? Just inserting it as a flash application doesn't seem to enable you to make the drop down menu "hang over" any html content...

  • good tutorial as always...but how did ya get ur video to 21 minutes?!

  • he's a youtube partner of if ur a director you can make your videos long

  • cool!

  • I'm a youtube partner, and i'm pretty sure I still only get the alloted ten minutes?

  • Wonderful tutorial. It worked flawlessly for me, and the tint at the end was a fab touch. Thanks very much! Only problem is that the Youtube player 'snaps' to certain points.

  • not as good as your other tuts. especially when youtube makes it impossible to go back to a specified point

  • Man i quit you talk to fast.

  • being an absolute flash noob i agree. The information is good but I feel like i have to pause it every 3-5 seconds and go back and listen again. I wish he'd explain a little more in detail somethings because the video quality isn't so great so it's hard to see where he's clicking sometimes.

Over all though great video, and it's free so it's not a complaint just some thoughts.

  • I know what you mean onconstant, I tried the scrolling thumbnails tutorial, It took me 7 hours!!

  • yeah I mean I am very thankful someone takes their time to make these videos but damn.. as a complete noob it's tough. Time to buy a book I guess haha.

  • I disagree-I find it much better than he goes quickly. It keeps you on your toes.

  • you need to slow down when you talk. it saves users playing the video 10 times every time you do something, no offense.

  • maan sometimes ou just speak so fast and move your mouse so fast I had to watch the 4th min so many times

  • Hi,your tutorial was really good...i made an awesome looking nav bar..but the problem is when i select any of the buttons, actions panel tells me that"Current selection can't have actions applied to it"...i have tried everything....but it's not working.....

I am using FLASH CS3 PROFESSIONAL and i opened the new document as FLASH FILE(ACTION SCRIPT 3.0)..help me..i really want to make this nav bar work...

  • Ok now it works... i made it as Flash file(action script 2.0) and it worked.thanx for the tutorial.

  • this tutorial works in action script 2.0, u must have CS3 and be working in action script 3.0. change the overall document properties to action script 2.0 and u should be able to follow the tutorial propely

  • Would this work if I put it on Dreamweaver?

  • i never heard anyone talk so fast.

  • Please upload this in a downloadable format, so that I don't have to rewatch a minute every time I rewind.

  • how u opened align pallete or soemthing when were doing text thing?

  • Ctrl+K

  • looksw very very very good, now ima test it, if i have quastions help me plz thank you.... =]

  • i am following this right now, but i dont get it, in the end you just say "but since it's all a movie, we can change the color" or w/e, i dont get it? how did all them layers become just 1 layer, and apparantly a whole movie. i cannot figure it out, it's probably rly simple tho :D

  • its not working for me T_T ive tried twice and followed this perfectly... and it dont work i hit control enter and when i slide my mouse over it nothing happens... i even went to the library and hit play and it worked there but when i do it in flash player it dont work T_T

  • for symbol what does registration do??? does it matter what you set it to?

  • Well, he has got flash 8, so use 2 just to be sure.

  • action 2.0

  • um ive got flash CS3. do i ue action script 2 or 3?

  • You talk and explain to fast like everybody knows what you're talking about... Need to be more specific in the commands

  • ... flash just crashed.... have to restart...

  • Man i cant get so many things together. :( i m trying ;)

  • 5/5...'Just like that!!!'

Get yourself a show son. Excellent work.

  • I agree about the youtube playback...so much here and I need to watch a few times... but a really useful show of things to do with what I need and not just buttons! keep up the tuts -cannot wait to find the others you done ;

    )

  • awesome video, really looked over some of the simple points that most people just glance over, as well as teaching me a whole new load of stuff to mess about with.

  • I need flash help! please, pm me! Im trying to export my video as a quicktime, BUUUUT, when i do, animations in my movie-clips wont run,,.......what do i do?

  • How do u tape this?

  • Hypercam, you can get a free version, just type HyperCam in google and voila

  • Very nice video, and thanks, but i fucking hate youtubes media bar thing where you can press play, cause when i missed something of what you said, i cant rewind cause then i have to go to the beginning to see the little thing i missed.

  • yea... same thing for me...

  • george dubya? nice vid.

  • Excellent video, every word and every step was very well explained.Good Job! 5/5

  • hey is it possible to get a dvd with all your cs3 tuts?

  • There's a huge amount of information packed into your video. I had to pause/go back about 20 times before I felt like I had absorbed the important points. But I learned more from your tutorial than through hours spent searching the web. Thanks!

  • i was just wondering if you could tell me wat the registraion points do??

    thanx

  • Great Job!!

This is what makes USA so great. I don't know if it's a cultural thing but they always love to share their knowledges. I am French and from experince other countries don't like sharing.. That's why this country is so dynamic.

  • Does cs3 treat buttons any different? when I try to set the getURL script, it tells me I can only modify the the action frame and not the button.

  • oh one last thing, how would you import this into dreamweaver?

  • Thanks man but i suggest you slow down a bit and explain what your doing. I had to go back a few times to see what you were doing. But otherwise 5/5. =]

  • muchas gracias!!!, me ha servido mucho.

Thank you!!!, it`s help me a lot!!!

    Suerte

  • Great video, it was extremely helpful. Not only did I learn how to make buttons, but it was a basic introduction to Flash 8 for me! Again, I appreciate it! I gave it 5 stars!

  • Great tutorial, I had no idea I could switch from Actions-Frame to Actions-Button lol. Everything was great, thanks.

  • I love you.

And for everyone complaining that he goes too fast, there is a pause button for a reason. I opened flash for the first time ever yesterday and could follow him perfectly.

  • excellent dude excellent

  • talk slowly dude

  • this video is for flash geeks! not for people that want to learn it from scratch. You are talking way to fast for that dude!

  • Yeah he's moving fast. Maybe the best thing to do is run through it taking notes on the basic steps, then run it again with constant play and pause, going step by step with him. Also, reviewing the command menus, (even just familiarizing yourself with the names is helpful) will help to find quickly the commands you need to do as he says. Yeah, this vid is a bit flash geeky, but it works.

  • try familiarizing your self with flash first before you start using actionscript and more advanced things like this. I've been using flash for over a 2 months and this is really good i just pause and play it and do what he says.

    Great tutorial though! 5/5

  • i dont understand, at 6:50 you tell us to hold alt and click and drag, when you do it your new frame thingy is a blank base, mine still haes "home" written on it

  • tyvm for a quality video, got me flash buttons on my site, which is what i wanted, thnx again =]

  • thanks, good tutorial

  • you talk fast.............

  • wdw

  • =D! Mucho gracias, your tutorials are going to save me a heck of a lot of time on my course, and had I not seen your one on AS 101, I'd have had a serious trouble getting to grips with the coding side. Now, when I watched this one, when you went to link the buttons, I knew the code off by heart!! =D Chufty.

  • Thaanks greaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat work

  • slow down next time please it was hard to keep up

  • "And GLOOBALL" Lol I love how he says that xD

    Nice vid, helped a lot.

  • Nice voice

  • man its a ral pain in the ass following these with this vid quality :/

  • for fucks sake! i can just not follow! this is the crapest tutorial! arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • hey nathanial, good job you have slowed down in your new tutorials because this is way to fast!

  • Ach du scheisse kann der kerln auch mal normal reden und in normaler geschwindigkeit, das ist für mich wieder ein grund mehr keine drogen zu nehmen

omg this guy talking to much and to fast, this is one reason more why i doesn't take drugs.....

  • absolutley fantastic!! just what i was looking for, and more!!

  • thanks

  • excellent tutorial man well done it helped me out a ton....!!!!! thanks!!!! keep it up!

  • I need help, at the part when you turn the gradient, and make it wide, etc, it won't look the same for me, I have CS# Flash, it might be different, If you don't udnerstand, what I mean is, It's a better gradient, like there closer, and yours are farther, i've looked and googled but can't find anything, could you help me please?

  • nice i like it

check out my channel if your like flash game programing tutorials

  • Awesome tutorial! Thanks for the help!

  • yea you do talk kind of fast, but nothing a -pause button- wouldnt fix... but then if people thought of that they wouldnt be using youtube for tutorials right? lol. very helpful. :) learned a few new tricks and i've been working with flash a good while. you're very skilled ^^

  • Thanks man, thats great

  • that thing was almost a half hour!!! your a waste of ram.

  • This is one of the coolest Flash tutorials out there.8) Thnx a lot, Tutvid.

  • holy crap you are a fast speaker awesome tut btw

  • if the author doesnt speak so much fast without breaks, it would be a very gradt tutorial!

  • **Error** Scene=Scene 1, layer=Buttons, frame=1:Line 1: Statement must appear within on handler nextFrame();

Total ActionScript Errors: 1 Reported Errors: 1

do you know how to fix that actionscript error, I just want a working arrow button that will take me to next frame and so on

  • man can you explaine to me how the hell to add timeline or sceen buttons to a flash animation?

    I have tryed everything.

the help function tells you how but it does not work at all!

if you have a secont to explain to me how to for example make a Gerbil in the microwave type (everyone has seen that right?) hit the buttons does somthing elts to the gerbil, you know? I could figure out what I need to know from that and I would realy owe you one

  • Superb! Keep up the good job, but your speed was a bit fast, I had to see it for more than a couple of times to catch up... anyways, thanks very much, 5 stars for U!

  • amazing but to you know how to make a loading bar and a play bar????

  • sounds like you got excited. lol...nice tutorial, looking foward to some more tutorials.

  • Great tutorial man. That really helps

  • Yes.Good tutorial.Thank you

  • instead of makingit go to a webpage, how do you make it go to a different flash scene?

    cool vid btw

  • you would use gotoAndStop instead of getURL. So your syntax should be:

    on(release){

    gotoAndStop("Name of Scene",frame#);

    }

note that the name of the scene must be in quotes. However, the frame number doesn't have to be unless your refering to a frame label.

  • ah cool it works, thx a million :D

  • keep up the good work!

  • you are awesome and i love all ur tutorials.. ive just watched ur photoshop ones! keep em coming!

  • hey man thanks alot but my button hit area is blocked by the text. i have the hit area as the highest layer, is there something else i need to do?
