  • Hi

  • Had my first cellular phone in 1995. It was a Audiovox bag phone (or car phone as I used it). Was $99.99 and came with battery and charger. I remember my plan was $50.00/month and 20 minutes talk time. Had the phone for just over 6 years. I have a Blackberry Tour now that was $130.00 and $80.00/Month with unlimited text, date, nights & Weekends minutes and 450 minutes prime call time.

  • My God it includes the charger!!!! what an offer!!!

  • this was probally from the 80s before i was born

  • LOL at can't remember the directions? Make a call. Now most phones have GPS in them.

  • Watched ibis on my iPad... Enough said

  • Why are none of these people using their beautiful leather cases?

  • LOL I had one of these when I was a kid, I loved it. No SMS or anything, all you could do is make calls and receive calls!

  • Comment removed

  • lolol. "this BEAUTIFUL, leather case"

  • I had one of these phones. You could drop this on cement 100 times and it would still work. Built like a brick

  • Wow I remember this commercial!

  • cause I love ruining my $195.00 dress shirt pocket with that heavy basterd!

My uncle stlll had the same one at 00:10 till 2001.

  • I just called the number with my credit card ready and they had no idea WTF I was talking about.

  • @RagingLoon i did too, i want that phone, she told me

  • Is there an unboxing video on this?

  • For air time only 100.00 for 25 mins.. and 90.00 for 3 mins long distance. Out ragious

  • Haha I had this phone when I was 20. Now my daughter plays with it. Show and tell at school.. what a deal for air f

  • I WANT ONE!!!

  • :31 This is why we drive and talk on the cell. It taught us to do that this early!

  • Comment removed

  • Um...I'm pretty sure my grandparents had this phone...until about 5 years ago.

  • Now this is a Future phone!

  • OH WOW! Stack that against an i-phone!!!!!

  • @Tilleyass Surely you mean the superior android 2.3.3 phones?

    OHBOYHEREWEGO

  • I want it!

  • $19.95 plus your first born.

  • Don't call and drive!!! *Crash!!*

  • why is it that whenever theres a commerical tthe guy talking always has the same exac voice as everyone? is it just a computerized voice or something? or the same exac guy!

  • Did the annoucer man just said, "Put it in your pocket or purse?" I don't know about any of you, but I DEF. could not fit that thing into MY pocket, hahahaha!!!

  • I miss having a giant fucking antenna on my phone.

  • Beautiful Phone Case ? hahahha

  • Little did they know that would fry their brains...

  • Thats actually a pretty good price.. xD

  • The brotha asking direction 4 the nearest crackhouse..they should have had him wearing a fedora..LOL !! With a gold tooth and scar across his face

  • This owns a I phone

  • My mom got one of these, but through the hospital where she worked (nurse). The plans were CRAZY expensive so neither of my parents cared to get one for personal use. I remember as a kid I would call people off the cell phone and my mom would freak out because it wasn't for personal calling. lol

It also did have the beautiful leather case.

  • Just got the Ginger bread update on this thing :D

  • dude, that leather case is so not beautiful..lol

  • We will be laughing at iphone commercials in the future as much as we laugh at this now.

  • I think that it's funny that the leather case was more expensive than the phone itself...

  • I've got that phone in my hand right now. WITH the beautiful leather case!

  • "Ya I got all my guys working on it" Cell Phones must have been seen as a way to get of work and go on your speed boat....makes sense! Hey it was the 80's!!

  • I LOVE the beautiful leather case!

  • So the leather case cost more than the phone...

  • I love this flip phone I wish I had this phone

  • I remember that phone, it was huge and had terrible battery life. Also back then service was very expensive, we paid like $198 one month and barely used the phone (less than 1 hr that month) when GTE was our cell phone provider.

  • You know this commercial is old because the guy in the ad is talking on his cell phone while driving.

  • @nicktm94 I called the number! It's SONY now!

  • @nicktm94 ahhaha love that smart ass comment!

  • @nicktm94 People STILL do that!

  • Everyone knows that Apple invented the mobile phone, the concept of actually making a phone-call without wires was the stuff of wonder and science fiction before the iPhone came out... Steve Jobs told me himself.

  • What happens if you ca

  • Cont: All wireless companies founded in the 1990's with the name, "Cellular" in the name should change it to, "Wireless" already!

    So lame!!!!

  • I remember sitting on my bed whilst living in Vancouver and ordering this phone back in 1997. I remember not knowing how many minutes were "realistically" needed in order to not end up with a $600 "Cellular" bill.

I remember taking it to work and my boss didn't know how to react to me having it on my desk. There wasn't a way to silent it.

Also my email at work was called, "transmissions" and it was internal only. My screen would flash MAIL MAIL MAIL (so funny) all Wireless companies with the

  • at 16 seconds, I'm pretty sure the actress is Sean Young. Almost positive

  • omg I would kill for a phone like that right now. it's soo funny. they should bring them back with today's technology, just an old looking phone with antenna and all lol I'm sure it would sell!!!

  • a leather case, oh god

  • "Offer expires 6/30/97" - YAY!

  • Looks great . . I want one . . .

I tried to ring that 1800 number though and got through to a chat line for lonely Trannies . . ?

  • Omfg, that leather case design was on phones for years to come. Even on bar phones! lol. Kinda sad though, at least back then if someone tried to mug you, you can use your brick sized phone as a weapon.

  • you cant be on the phone while driving..... you need a blue tooth or else you get a ticket

  • @luis36702 Not back in those days. I used to drive through Toronto gabbing on a phone about the same time this commercial was aired, nobody cared. Life was good.

  • Pretty cheap for back then. They dont tell how much the rates were. How much was a bill?

  • OMG IT'S NOT TOUCH SCREEN. WHAT IS THIS!

  • no run away 2011 cell phones the dinocells are coming

  • dude you'd get caught so easily in class with that monster

  • God, Cellular One was such a rip-off!

  • Ha ha dude putting that big ass phone in his shirt pocket too funny

  • My grandma and my dad both had these from cellular one........crazy stuff!

  • I remember back in those times having to wait at home for an important call back during those times and to make a call away from home, having to put quarters in the pay phone. You never saw very many people carry cell phones back in the 80s and early to mid 90s.

  • This sure brings back the memories. I remember when having a cellular phone to carry with you every where you go was a luxury. Now days, cell phones are more advanced and extremely common and pretty much replacing land lines in the home. I remember the first time I had a cell phone, it was a bag phone that plugged into the car plug and to me that was a big luxury back then.

  • So, if VoiceStream now T-Mobile

    Cingular now AT&T

    Nextel merged to Sprint,

    then is CellularOne now Verizon?

  • @BoogsterSU2 Yes , Verizon is a conglomerate of companies including cellular one. AT&T and Cingular were both separate companies, AT&T just bought them out , same with sprint.

  • I have one of those!!!!!!!!!!

  • damn the leather case too...

  • Wow $20 was a GREAT price for cell phones back then. I got my first one in 1998 and it was like $400 + this ridiculous monthly calling plan for 50 MINUTES was an extra $100. Lol the days

  • what do they mean by $19 95? $19.95, or $1995???? dont really get it.

  • My mom has this phone, is dead now, but when i was little i thought it was the best ever, i would pretend it worked

  • You dummies have no idea how much pussy I got from having a phone like this back in 1995.......it was insane

  • @GoHabsGo0708 Only if you live in some overcrowded state in the North...

  • This SOUNDS like a fantastic deal, does it not?

Almost too good to be true, right?

    Well, DO NOT be fooled!

I really wanted this phone. It sounded like such a great deal! So I called the 800 number to order one, and a foreign lady answered she asked what company i was trying to reach, CellularOne, and she said "I'm sorry, we do not answer calls for that company." Suspicious. I also visited the website and saw nothing about the awesome Motorola 550 Flip Phone.

    This commercial is a PHONY!

  • @wlwrk4fd cmon man the commercial is like 20 years old :D

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @wlwrk4fd If you look at 1:15 in the video, it says at the bottom, "Offer Expires 6/30/97". I think yer about 13+ years late on this one :)

  • @wlwrk4fd THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT PHONY.. I HAD ONE. REMEMBER THIS WAS BACK IN THE 80'S....I STILL HAVE MINE AND IT IS REALLY REALLY HUGE.....

  • @wlwrk4fd uh, maybe because you called a twent 5 year old number?

  • @wlwrk4fd thats bc that company no longer exists and the number no longer applies to that company. or were u being sarcastic?

  • can I update my facebook with that?

  • @chris978820 there was no facebook back then.....dumbass

  • @MsEazye2010 YES!!! It's about time some retard would reply to that comment and actually believed i was being serious. it only took a week though so it still wasn't that long. So good job at proving to everyone how much of a retard you really are for actualling thiking i was being serious

  • @MsEazye2010 hey don't talk to my sister like that she is only eight years old

  • My parents used to have that phone when i was a kid. I used it alot

  • That is a HIDEOUS leather case.

  • epic

  • I want one!

  • Geez, does any cell phone video NOT have a comment about the iPhone? Seriously, iPhone users are assholes with too much pride. Android users don't go boasting about their phones, even though Android is a LOT better in my opinion.

I'd love a GSM-E158 Brick phone. Don't know what it is? Look it up. Brick is in! 8D

  • @SouthwesternEagle Assholes with lots of money unlike you.

  • @ismaeldeltoro Dude, I have better things to do with my money than buy hype. I am an investor. I could spend thousands buying an iPad, iPod, iPhone, and an iBook, but why? Android offers the same thing iPhone offers for less than half the price.

First rule of investing: Don't turn cash into trash.

  • I watched this vid on my iPhone lol

  • call this number to get this phone! lol EPIC FAIL

  • im starting to not be able to tell the difference between 80s and 90s advertisements

  • ...love when he lay the cellphone in the chestpocket..!

  • Pause at 1:17 and you will see it says that this offer will expire 6/30/97. This commercial was made in 1997.

  • @jtpoiyu god u have good eyes...lol

  • The DPC-550 was from around 1996, my dad had one. Also had a moto car kit that made it a real 3 watt unit when plugged in (like a bag phone or normal car phone), rather than .6 watt when standalone, very necessary back then when in rural areas.

  • Someone should have told that black gentleman that in only 14 short years it would become a crime to talk on the phone while driving... Probably would have never purchased the damn thing!! :-P

  • the best part is, it comes with a BEATIFUL free leather case!

  • Way back in the day it was like "Hey, let me borrow your celluar phone?" Then you'd hand him something the size of a shoe box. Now days, you could lose the darn thing, being the size and thickness of a credit card. Go figure how fast things change and by how much.

  • It would be funny to find one of these at a yard sale...wrap it up for your preteen/teens first cell phone but buy them a modern one but use one of these to trick them at first....to see there reaction:P See how they will react thinking there first cell phone they got was an old dino...while all there friends may have smartphones and such lol and then after they are done in panic mode be like chill out HERES your new phone! and give them the real one! lol

  • I want that Phone !

  • @TheGeeksftw

you can have one for $35

  • My mom had one of these, she still does I think. Of course she's using a modern phone now.

  • i would go back with my blackberry torch and envent blackberry

  • "This is gonna change everything.....All over again!" ahahaha..

  • I remember my dad having a phone similar to this back in 1991 - 1993. LOL! When he first bought it, I though it was cool as hell though!

  • "Put it in your pocket or purse"?

How the hell would that fit in your pocket?!

  • Buy this for $19.95 and u well also get free apps for $9.99

  • i knew like 10 people that had this

  • IN THE NEXT 30 YEARS , PEOPLE WILL LAUGH AT THE IPHONE'S COMMERICIAL

  • @baozeng Free thinking people laugh at iPhone commercials for years.

  • I used to have one of those!!!!

  • holy shit ....they may be moblie but moblie fucking bricks they prolly wiegh a pound ahah :

  • holy shit... the leather case is worth $5 more than the phone itself!

  • @PersonWithAnAccount7 But the leather case makes that brick look like Batman! :D

  • Ooh, they're making calls from their cars

  • I f I brought my iphone to that time Id say what my bitches

  • Holy shit, I had that phone for a while!

  • @CanadianHitman08 i also had that phone too. i am sitting here lol , thinking how cell phone has came a long way from being a bulke phone , to a compack phone , back in the day it did not have tex messaging or the internet , it was antlog phone , they were chargeing you more per a min. on the call's .

  • the 90's are so retro and cheesy, love it, haha

  • People knew how to drive and talk on the phone back then. When did our society lose that skill?

  • @buzznugget When texting arrived I guess.

  • @buzznugget our society lost that skill when as verrie77 said texting arrived but also people focusing on holding a phone up to their ear and listening to someone on the phone takes their mind off the road

  • @wafhsecl Oh good point. So i'm guessing in the 80's and 90's they used a bluetooth headset instead of holding the phone up to their ears? because like you just said holding the phone up to their ears and listening to someone took their minds off the road. then they probably used a bluetooth headset in the 80's and 90's.

  • My first "mobile" phone (I use that term loosely here) was bolted to the wall behind the driver seat of my company car. It was possible to detach it, but it weighed about 10 kilos. The sound quality and cost of a call resembled that of the moon landings. I remember people staring at it in awe (yes, the phone). Since then, I have had a wide range of brick phones. I stopped being amazed of smallmess somewhere around the Ericsson T10s and the Nokia 8810i.

  • 4 The incredible price of 19.95 and you'll also receive the bible statement bill every month for the ridiculously low price of 450 dollars call now this deal wont be around forever!!!

  • 20 years later....We as a species are a slave to our phones, a slave to computers, a slave to technology.

  • and don't lose the "i wanna die caused by an incredible amount of radiation" edition!

  • Cellular One is what my mom had service through before they were bought out by Verizon atleast the southern region. I also have this model. Used it too. Prior to the Analog cut off and GPS mandate. Have a Droid 1 now.

  • damn they had a web page!

  • maaaaan those thing had ridiculous radiation

  • I WANT THAT SOO BAD!!!!

  • @OHelloMyNameIZ ,ME TO

  • WTF!, they use the phones while driving!.

  • OMG, people using their mobiles and driving at the same time - blast from the past!

  • "beautiful leather case".....LMAO

  • Can people shut up about the iPhone. There are more cells out there than just iPhones.
