actually i thought both dj shadows remix and the original version were about nuclear war especially when one line croons "feel the shaking of the ground, a million candles burn around, is it your birthday?" I have a feeling that whoever wrote those lyrics would have made a great novelist and satirist.

you know what i hate? people down-rating each other simply for having different tastes, DJ shadow did a great job with his remix, and the director of the short that goes with it does a great job re-imagining a song about war to a broken relationship. Nothing electronic? There is an electric organ, and a synthesizer in this song. Also delay effects on the vocals. I enjoy this version and DJ Shadow's. Both take talent to create. I found this song because of DJ Shadow. The remix with Mos Def is interesting to me because it combines the original Colonel Bagshot with DJ Shadow's Six Days with DJ Shadow's Walkie Talkie and creates yet another new recreation of the original.

To each their own, but the Shadow/ Mos Def remix is one of the best merging of two different genres of music all time. Mos Def is an intelligent artist, as is DJ Shadow, and the message of the original song still comes through loud and clear...enough to even make me look up who sang it originally...and now I'm also blown away by the original as well. Get past the fact that it's hip-hop and actually listen to Mos' lyrics...hopefully you'll see it's just a different kind of amazing.

Exactly Raheenb. My opinion is that the original track done by Shadow was horrible, didnt sound good at all. I like Raheenb looked up who originally sang the song because the remix was so damn vicious.
