Animation has been both for kids and adults, but has been more affiliated with children for the saturday morning cartoons. It's not hard to find the "darker" side of animation, may I suggest the works of Geralde Scarfe?

Also, most cartoons (mainly older but some new) have undertones of adult humour, such as Tex Avery cartoons.

Being familiar with the comic, It's my understanding that the character of Fritz, as conceived by Robert Crumb, was really just a typical horny lech who only pretended to be "hip" and "relevant" and yacked on philosophy, social radicalism, revolution,.. blah blah just so he could ultimately get some sexual action with some of them loose wilde hippie chicks,.. but didn't honestly give a shit about any of that jive,.. which was often the case back then with all that.

It was a coment on the actual over-all trendiness and shallowness of that whole era. And, while there was a little bit of it at the begining ( with the bathtub scene ), I think that the original characterization mostly got lost in the transmision. And I also think THAT is the main reason that alot of people in the know, including Crumb himself, had dissed this move version.

Again, I think they should've just had Crumb concieve the story and write the screenplay here.
