  • How much longer until Conan O'Brien comes in and saves us from this elevator music?

  • I love his playing, i'm studying "the visit" martino's solo and in the solo of his book i'm studying his solo and there's a line subscribed in c7(13) where he plays g dorian but those are the same notes as c mixolydian. Is that another approach(thinking) of what he is doing ? Because on a B+7 he played C dorian and and that makes totally sense(it sounds natural!) can anyone help me please ?

  • Great playing and great tone from such a thin bodied guitar, wow!

  • Master savant.

  • A master at work.

  • Does anyone know what tune pat is playing? Would love to hear a studio version if possible.. thanks!

  • @fakesoundsjazz1983 he's playing "lean years"

  • Timothy Dalton on organ?

  • @Mattieval No, Tony Monaco

  • Bravissimo Pat , ma forse se mi posso permettere la chitarra con piu alti sarebbe leggermente più in evidenza.

  • @thetickelmonster12 Tony play like you never will so why don't you shut your mouth! Or better yet eat a stick of dynamite! Retardo!

  • SWINGIN!!!!!

  • I really think part of Tony's charm are his facial expressions and the physicality he plays with. He's livin' it. What a fantastic trio.

  • @thred610 Tony needs to have more fun.

  • I just listened to George Benson from his clip "Benson on Martino." He says it all! From one monster to another, I agree on both these gifted players.

  • why he is not my grandfather?

  • "at fourteen rears old I met john coltraine." Yeah, right? I mean its absolutely no big deal what so ever

  • @thetickelmonster12 Try to watch and listen the tune, not only watching......I can realize why you are named monster...lol

  • one of the greatest gutarist of all time!!! wonderfull

  • thank you mr martino. really thank you...you guitarplayin is just phenomenal...thank you

  • @thetickelmonster12

It's actually extremely difficult to perform an articulate solo with the right hand while playing a swinging bass line with the left hand. If this particular man has a "nervous tick" of holding his mouth open maybe you should cut him some slack. I don't enjoy his open mouth but at least I have an understanding of what he's doing. What are you so angry about and why are you calling him names?

  • @PAOComposer its not a nervous tick.. i play with my mouth open alot.. it just a habit but otherwise i agree with u. Hes one the great organ players of our time.

  • @thetickelmonster12 You listen to music with your eyes?

  • 3 people dont know wat good music is even if it came and fuked them in the ass

  • @thetickelmonster12 hey asshole , the only retarded here is you motherfucker

  • peach color stage!!!! agh!

  • Pat Martino is the guitarist's guitarist........every generation has their great players ... I reckon Joe Pass , Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian and Django must have heaved a sigh of relief when Pat came along! certainly George Benson and I did!!

  • Great playing..VERY Wes Montgomery inspired.

  • It's a amazing the way Pat threads his sound from tune to tune. He sets up every song so he can play it his way and that like no one else.

My favorite recording is a record called 'Desperado' where he uses an electric 12'string. The guitar looks like an ES 335 12 but the logo on the headstock is hard to see in the photo.

This musician has influenced me as much as anyone I've ever listened too. I hope if he ever hears me play I'll make him proud.

  • the drummer is one groovin machine. bravo

  • I love the Pat's warm sound.

  • @blartefax

To each his own, but for many of us, Pat's tone is a whole lot of fun indeed. Lots of great players (and not so great, like me) would love to sound like Pat.

I do know what you mean though. I can recall a time when I thought Jazz guitar was boring. Then came Wes. And then came Pat. Literally. Long live the King.

  • Incredible playing!! One note and you know it's Pat Martino! I like the looks of the Benedetto, however the sound is kind of dry.

  • mmm... Benedetto Pat Martino: a very high quality copy of the Gibson Pat Martino model.. I do not say this to disqualify the Benedetto guitars, I say this to acknowledge that the Gibson Pat Martino is a very good guitar too.. I very like the two guitars.

  • Why have so many great jazz guitar players such a dull guitar tone..? I'm not a troll, Pat Martino plays fantastic, but his guitar sound isn't much fun.

  • that guitar sounds amazing for a solid body.

  • @lelaki88 Pat's contract with Gibson must have expired, I noticed his sig guitar is no longer offered. The Bennedettos are the best in the world. It shoud sound good.

  • @123kitl It's just the way jazz guitar tends to be, very warm. Same concept as the twang that is associated with country or bluegrass

  • @lelaki88 I have a feeling its a chambered design.

  • We just heard him in NY - with an organist, tenor sax and a fantastic drummer! What a wonderful artist, what a way to play music! Amazing!

  • a great teacher..

  • Tony Monaco loves what he does. watching him live with Pat was a riot because of the funny faces he makes because he is so into it. Those kinds of players make going to live shows worth it

  • Seemingly involving to be busy on the fretboard while the drummer is just so relaxed hes in the show watching the keyboard player make some special faces lol. Great listening to pros go at it.

  • Get ready for Pat's new CD, "Live from Blue's Alley" presented by APM Records. The release is coming early in 2011. Word is, its going to be grammy nominated. His best work to date. With Tain Watts on drums, Eric Alexander on sax & Tony Monaco on the Hammond B3. Produced by Darryl J. Brodzinski. "Pat at his best".

  • adoro el metal pero esto es muy buena musica

  • These are some funny faces both from the keyboardist and the drummer :)) But when you play like this, you have the right to do anything you want. Great tune!

  • Pat is the consummate jazz guitar player. A true genius.

  • 6666 view

  • what's the name of the song please, wanting to know for playing reasons

  • @spaghetti4eva lean years, but I don't know the album

  • @gidoprovato its on the album "strings"

  • @iPR0SH0T i've check but in strings there isn't....

  • @TheNelloITA yeah it is, it is a lot more upbeat than in this video. i didn't recognize it at first either. song titled "lean years." i promise it's there

  • @iPR0SH0T yeah your right! it's start in a different way...i prefer the live version to the album!!

  • South Philly's Finest..........he's been a stone killer for years..

  • Pat Martino is a fucking machine...nobody plays those jazzy/bop/swing licks as clean, dinamic and soulfully as him...the Charlie Parker of guitar...when he plays, everybody moves his knees...love this man

  • i saw pat with this group at the jazz kitchen in indianapolis and it was life changing for me as a guitar player. very inspiring musician and person

  • Thanks for sharing this video! Please credit filmmaker Jason Fifield of Slife Productions for the audio and video, and the great non-profit group Jazz Bridge for putting on this show!

  • Yes! IMO, the greatest Jazz guitar player that has ever lived.

  • Pat Martino is a jazz legend for good reason. He's playing is fantastic here, once again showing the world his humor and sheer inventiveness on the guitar.

  • Great stuff - I wonder what knuckle-dragging philistine gave it a thumbs down.

  • Wow I must be the first to view this video.. I feel like Pat's giving me a private concert. So good to see him playing a Benny. He sounds fantastic!
