This guy is great! I just stumbled in here, and hadn't heard of this. I'm so glad he is uncovering this, or at least exposing it more. The Banks, what greedy SOB's! Property values decrease because Victorville was a massive real estate bubble. Something this guy does not address. In 2008-2009 property values plummet to "normal value." So now builders can either complete the home for another 50k-60k or bull doze it for a cheaper price. Trust me. I work in the design side of the construction field. Recovery on investment cannot be made going into more debt by completing homes.

Also, the "code" that you mention is called a "surety bond," or insurance that the community requires builders to take out to guarantee against noncompletion of a construction project. Oftentimes, it's cheaper for the builder to demo an unfinished project and grade the lot than to let the bond default and pay increased future premiums. That appears to be what's happening here.

I saw this happen to a prime piece of property I see on a commute going to and from school. There was this complex (brand freaking new) that was built to house a variety of buisnesses (law firms, medical firms etc) and I guess the land lords couldn't get anyone to live in them and the taxes here in New York are crazy high, so they (the land lords) just destroyed the complex. Its pretty sad... but now I understand why its happening...

Extreme makeover is a joke in some cases .Lake city Ga the home that the show built was a castle and overbuilt for the old development. but wait there is more the idiots that lived there borrowed money twice against the house now they are loosing it.I also heard the people were going to take the "show folks" to court because the new house was too much to take care of and caused them mental stress They got the new house because the septic tank system failed in the old house.

A Guaranty Bank official, Real Estate Officer Dean Smith, said they were facing daily fines from the city of Victorville if they didnt do something with the homes and property that not up to code. He said it was a choice of pumping their own money into property site improvements and additional money to bring the home up to code or tear down the 16 homes.

Victorville- The housing collapse is taking a literal form for one bankrupt housing development.
Four model homes and 12 nearly finished spec homes at Bear Valley Road and Highway 395 are being demolished.
The developer filed bankruptcy about 18 months ago and the foreclosed property went to Guaranty Bank in Irvine.

You still have to drive to it. I know that sounds silly, but the whole country has grown screwed up over the last 50 years, especially SoCal. Some suburbanization is good; but single family house sprawl is unsustainable and not good.

Just get the Loan to build,build poorly,or do not complete the project...Its done just so the Original Loans can be made by the Banks which they then Leverage themselves before bundleing and selling on to the financials market.
Its of no consequence whether the Buildings are completed if it was just for Financials.

I now have the FULL story and video footage of them demolishing one of the model homes in Victorville CA.
I also have a developing story, according to the workers at the Victorville site, this isnt going to be the last time we see this. They are currently speaking to another bank who wants to demolish 20 brand new homes in Temecula CA.

Dude. Get a windscreen for your mike. You can fashion one out of scrap open cell foam, or even an old sock.
Also, the "code" that you mention is called a "surety bond," or insurance that the community requires builders to take out to guarantee against noncompletion of a construction project. Oftentimes, it's cheaper for the builder to demo an unfinished project and grade the lot than to let the bond default and pay increased future premiums. That appears to be what's happening here.

If the utilities were already in though you would think it would have been in the community interest to let the homes stand and use them in some way, sell them for a dollar to attract school teacherrs or whatever.

Empty houses on land cost money to the city in lost tax revenue. The houses are no longer new after a few years, so it's better to tear 'em down and wait until there's a new market. Besides, they don't want vagrants living in them.

If anyone thinks we are anywhere at all neat the bottom of the housing market they are sorely mistaken.
Currently there are at least 600,000 houses that have been foreclosed and have not even been lsited yet, for fear it would totally tank the market and scores more would just walk away from their homes. Shadowstats people.

I saw this happen to a prime piece of property I see on a commute going to and from school. There was this complex (brand freaking new) that was built to house a variety of buisnesses (law firms, medical firms etc) and I guess the land lords couldn't get anyone to live in them and the taxes here in New York are crazy high, so they (the land lords) just destroyed the complex. Its pretty sad... but now I understand why its happening...
