1. Music from beginning to 0:11? It sounds like an American campaign.
2. What was the 'blacked out' Monday night game, and did Global ever purchase rights from ABC for the 83-84 and/or 84-85 season (MNF moved to ESPN in 2005)?
He was THE voice of Global (and some of its programs) through the 80s and 90s... also a voice actor, perhaps best known as the voice of "Bulletproof" Vess on the cartoon series "C.O.P.S."
Jim Kelly was drafted by the Bills in 1983 but didn't start playing for them until 1986, because he had been playing for the now-defunct USFL's Houston Gamblers.
The announcer sounds WAAAAY too happy to announce the blackout. "Now you guys have no excuse; you're gonna hafta go clean out the garage like you promised your wives last week...ha ha ha ha haaaaa!"
Ontario residents may rejoice as the Dolphins and Bills will be in Toronto this December in a series which will resume for the next four years I believe.
They couldn't sell out a Bills game within 72 hours. Even for Monday Night Football. Way to go Buffalo. Viewers in Ontario were robbed of NFL, even in Ottawa. What garbage did Global show instead? Who was that bad country singer that had a show? Not Tommy Hunter.
That's what I was wondering (read the previous comments) - I suspected that CIII was close enough to Buffalo to have had to follow blackout regulations.
BTW, the Bills finished that season 2-14-0 (worst in the NFL), scoring 204 fewer points than their opponents.
Truthfully Global doesn't have anything on that's worth watching except for Survivor China. Other than that it's shit as far as I'm concerned especially Satruday mornings which has nothing on it except extreme sports. It's like "Hello! That's what the sports channels are for!"
is it replaced by the queen's speach instead?

The Global TV ID at the beginning, the words Global Television Network disappear, and G is shown without the words. RARE!!

If a Buffalo Bills are home on a Sunday night or a Monday night, it gets blacked out.

Which explains why they drafted Jim Kelly in the draft after having football worst mark in '84.

How ironic for Canadian football fans. Thats why the US NFL network has been the King for Sports programs.

Yes, Canwest doesn't have the NFL rights anymore. Only CTV and Rogers has them today.

I wonder if Global had fake blimps and Canadian Tire billboards on their NFL telecasts back then.

I noticed they used the British spelling of "programme" (two mm's) in the slide.

Anyone know why there was a blackout that night?

I think this was used as a running gag on SCTV, complete with a mock title card.

My mother got cable for us around about this time not because she wanted to but because she knew she had to with 2 little kids in the house.

When they got rid of the "G" in 1997, everything became this rapid downhill slide.

Absolutely right. News especially.

I agree but I truly think the slide started from around 1994 or '95.

Ironically enough... TSN was born around the time when this ID started running.
I really wish that Global could try and bring back some of the good stuff they used to run or at least re-make the shows with a modern spin.
