A normal plane needs about 50 kW/h pro 100km.He needs about 1kW/h pro 100kmwith a motor with good enery-efficietic motor.Airplanes are the second greatest climatic-killers
this proves it can be done. also think how much of an un researched area this is in an oil dominating world. I am almost certain there are unreasearched human powered flying machines that can reach high speeds than this. we need the big players to research into this field. like lockheed martin and nasa. those guys could do it
The view is worth the climb....and if you are pedalling you know you are climbing! A fit human is a 300w motor, about as good as a quality battery drill... tempting thought! I get my fun flying without an engine, and can stay up for more than six hours - the view from a mile high is pretty good. Ever flown out of a snowstorm into clear blue sky? WOW
@applesweeter we love flying because its something most people will never experience... yes a lot of people fly on airplanes, but not many get the bird's eye, low flying feel of what its like to just buzz over the tree tops, it would add a whole new dimension to life.
we design planes because of this desire to add the aerial dimension to life
the feeling of success comes whenever we do anything by ourselves for the first time... think a 5 year old tying his shoes for the first time...
@applesweeter think of someone climbing a mountain for the first time, and flying, something that most humans share a desire to do and is nearly impossible, is something that no one else has done by his or her own power, its the exhilarating feeling of the ability to fulfill your dreams without any assistance

wtf, why not use a 2hp model airplane engine, if you can do it pedaling with 0.3???? so much potential!

Dear All,
I have some questions about flying:
(1) why do we love flying?
(2) why do we want to design various kind of aeroplanes?
(3) what is the feeling of success if we fly be our own power?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)
