it shouldn't take ages to turn something from tape to computer, you need to update or change the software settings for the conversion. Then it should do it in real time. So a 10 minutes porgram will take 10minutes, as it plays it will convert into the video into a file
@articocean Maybe with different software and equipment. When I do things, everything is captured in DV quality, from Mini DV tape and I have a small hard drive which can't handle the Gigs of data a half hour programme would need to do it in one go. Besides, I only put this video up to show the graphics, clothes and general oldskool style of the show.
I used to watch these OU broadcasts late on BBC2 before I even knew what engineering was! Loved them. Another one was about teaching vibrations and they used an old Austin Allegro on a test track with loads of obsatcles embedded on the road. Going back the years now!
The new symbol had only been introduced the previous year, and took about 3 years to be firmly "established". Anyway, this was low budget... probably couldn't afford to make a new symbol just for the captions & credits!
Has anyone got an old Engineering Scientist for colleges type program theme - futuristic electronic music with three or four arcs being draw - like a C shape...
i love it, groovy man. Its useful, i'll use it to work out the velocity of his mustache. I see he's using einsteins well knows "red car blue car" theorum. :)
I love the disclaimer at the start

...and my claim to (dubious) fame is that I did the graphics when I worked at the BBC OU in Milton Keynes!

Still using the BBCtv logo in 1989 ... remarkable ... and they were all made in ... Milton Keynes, where else?

I miss the OU so much, do you have the full program?
ruuman 4 years ago
Yep.
ahd2006 4 years ago
any chance you can post it up?
ruuman 4 years ago
Not the whole thing, no. It takes ages to get anything from tape to the computer, and I don't have that much time on my hands.
ahd2006 4 years ago
sure thing mate, I'm much the same, cheers for the clip

"This programme was made before the current legislation on Health and Safety had been passed."
Now if that doesn't hook you in, nothing will!

Brown shirts, dodgy beards, bad hairdos - all that's missing is the kipper tie! - it can only be a 1970's OU broadcast!

The guy on the velocity diagram looks like he's having fun. It could be the new ride at Alton Towers. It's 'Relative Velocity!'folks.
