  • looks like a lot of work and effort - can't we make theis work like a QR code- especially if the goal is to replace QR codes?!

  • iphone is best smartfone

  • Im with iwanaplayagame on this one

  • french teknology !! pretty sure its wrong !

  • buy google nexus one and you don't need to send email and wait to receive the result...androids os do this instantly!!!Search on youtube about GOOGLE GOGGLES aplication.Btw it's free for android phone's!

  • good!

  • Is this feature available? If yes, how do we use it? What email should we type in, or what do we have to download? What do we have to do to image search from iphone? Or this is a prototype, a project, just at the beginning of development?

  • holly shit that was my fucking idea

  • Wouldn't it be easier just to type "the matrix" in google? Takes 2 seconds.

  • that is a pretty awesome app

  • Snap Tell does this same exact thin, but you don't have to email anything...you snap a picture and the info automatically pops up

  • eyeBuy Visual Search does this also. No emailing involved (same as SnapTell), but it recognizes way more.

  • u should have change the BOOK though as a object man...it shows you as a some psycho...

  • isnt this just the camera app?

  • I don't understand why you don't make it as an application?!!

  • wats the email address for the server?

  • iphone is op

  • :O wow next technology ;) Iphone ruuulez xD

  • wow~ cool

  • me encanta tu wea

  • How does I get tha app?

    Is it freeware!?

  • It isnt really an app ;), you just mail a pic to a webserver,

unless of course you mean that bit of software/..

  • Looks great!

  • What about face recognition? Imagine you take pic of some persons face, then upload it, and that software search for it on the internet. That could be very usefull.

  • yeah, maybe you could have all the criminal pictures, and find out if sombody is about to mug you and rob your iphone!

  • that should cost 2000$

  • VERY cool app. I'm getting that!

  • Waha! That's just like a Pokedex from Pokemon :D Super Cool Feature!

  • I wonder if this the ViPR image recognition technology and database includes or will be expanded to include album/book covers, and photographs of people.

Privacy issues aside, harnessing photographs from the abundance of social networking sites would yield a comprehensive archive of human faces, which would extend this technology to identifying people on the street.

Extending this concept to other organisms & rocks, biologists & geologists in the field cab use it to identify species & rocks.

  • wow thats really neat

  • Awesome app for the iPhone but the touch can't take pictures so how will it work then, via the barcode number?

  • This demo is just using the email app on the phone as the client for sending and receiving information.

It would only work on the iTouch if you already had a picture on the phone you wanted to match.

  • wait, do you need to jail break your iphone to do this? and also, does this work with ipod touch?

  • nope no jalbreak and touch doesn't have camera so you would have to get the picture pre synced from your computer. HOpe that answered your Q'stn

  • ipod touch doesnt have the camera...

  • I mean download the pic from your computer

  • ofcourse you can...you can do that on like first iPod nano hehe:D...

  • just kind of OCR thing, i guess.

I don't think it still works when there is no word in the picture.

  • It's not OCR and doesn't need text to recognize a pattern.

For example, the same algorithm is used in navigation systems for robots, to allow them to see where they are by recognizing their environment.

If you Google "evolution vipr demo" you can download a demo of the ERSP Vision software that runs on PC with a standard web cam.

  • Would that pattern recognition result in extensive computing burden on the Server? Image recognition is not an easy work for machines. What kind of powerful server should be used for 10000 parallel queries? And... why only for iPhone? The developer totally put others into their ignorance list?

  • We have client apps on about 3 million phones right now and expanding the deployments through partnerships with different service providers.

We just announced that KDDI in Japan is putting ViPR on EVERY new model this year through our partnership with Bandai Networks.

The point that ViPR scales so well to large databases & server solutions is why mobile marketing & content companies are building their services around it

  • "the magic code"? this apps a fake

  • Great idea especially if your in a movie store.

  • that is pretty cool!! how much is it?

  • nice!!!

  • awesome!

  • imagine i see a product in the store, i take a picture, get the info and can browse the lowest price in town...

    Hubert from Wirtzfeld Valley

  • i wonder ifit would have worked if his hand would have been over te words Finding Nemo ,lol. But i don't see why i would want to use this in real life, if i can take a picture of the dvd cd or book, it's already fysicly there so what else would i want with it.

  • Did you even watch the video?

  • but who will first take a picture, send email and check his email to search for nemo. Why not to search on any web search engine for "Nemo" and see all this stuff :)

Good stuff, but not looking great practically

  • Wow, you're smart.

Like he said, it's a demo. He's using Nemo as an example, to show you its capability.

  • i understand that "nemo" was an example! but still will you not prefer to type text and search that instead of uploading/sending image by email when only if is extracted from image using image processing and then used for search on the web. However image content based searches will be useful, but still long time to reach there.

  • Dude, this is a demo. The final product is an app that does all the mailing for you.

  • cool

  • It would be cool to discover there is a person receiving those emails that has a media database and sends the right information back. 'Cause who wants to mail with a server anyway?

  • very nice can be good also to document some things you want.

  • That is some pretty clever scarey shit. Great video. Well done.
