I have fond memories of going to Pizza Hut with my family as well, except ours had a cocktail Ms. Pac-Man. One thing I never got about this game was the title. Are you supposed to be a spy who hunts people, or a guy who hunts spys? Hmmmmm....
I had a similar experience growing up with Spy Hunter in a local burger place. I was thrilled when I heard there was a port on the NES but yeah, it didn't live up to the arcade cabinet. Your car's a lot more fragile and it's a lot harder to run cars off the road and the only way to go faster is to be near the top of the screen instead of having the high-low shifter so you always smash into things.
The arcade game is still one of my favorites, the NES version is a disappointment.
A good review, yeah the game was meant as an arcade experience for sure, crazy speeds, narrow streets, oh and your comment about the movie... it's not like it can suck any harder than the super mario bros. movie the tune that plays is from another spy show/film peter gun, the midway staff had the 007 tune playing on the system, waiting for an ok from Ian Flemmings family giving them permission to use it, but it never came, ands they changed the games music from the 007 theme to peter guns theme
I loved how the arcade game had a different button for every weapon you picked up....smoke screen, oil slick, missles....and it was hard as fuck....(driving into the back of the truck was sweet...
I actually did pretty good on the nes game....I remember going into a boat...and there was this glitch where you could drive out of bounds if you don't pull back onto the road after crashing...
nice... theres no ending in this game either even if u used a game genie (like i tried) it still blows it was made to be an arcade game not a console game, ur right!!
