@mydogkanskidrums Yes, this piece alone is all a person would need to do to have a great career, and Mr. Platania has this and much much more. an if i could lend something from Bob Seger a true Beautiful Loser.
@BenjDeath i know not of what you speak. whenever i meet mr. morrison he is always very nice and friendly. Ofcouse i treat him like any other person i meet, i dont bug them they dont bug me.
@BenjDeath This song is not from "Astral weeks", but Lester Bang's article about "Astral Weeks" is relevant about Van. Just type "Van Morrison"-"Lester Bangs"-"Astral Weeks" in Google (sorry, I can not publish the link apparently)
I was one of the lucky ones to meet him in Belfast his home town when his daughter was performing last year in a small club. My dreams came true that nite when he walked in to watch his daughter. He was lovely to me when I approached him. Such a humble genius. Ignore the gutter Press what they write about him being unapproachable. He is The Man 4ever
@no1vanfan a short how do you do , or did you get info about him working on anything? where is the movie that was being made during the "astreal weeks" tour i need more van info he is too quite.
Van's mom & dad had a record shop in Fairfax Ca. called 'Caledonia Music' back in early 80's. I bought records from his mom Violet. Insanely kind woman. Dad didn't speak much. Beautiful and thoughtful man though. Saw Van and mum at a table next to where I washed dishes in a local restaurant. He looked at me deep, and I was gone. 'Summertime In England' rocks above all I know. Especially this vid. See his face. He was one with the song. Not many deep-soul songs out there, but this is A Real One!~
@transientdreams great insight, i am glade to see your still a van fan, many times when we meet someone we admire from afar we find we dont like that person or dont like them as much. I so wish i could meet him or had meet his parents just to have more insight into how he works. and yes Van puts together all my fav music styles into him music and this song , i fell like jake elwood standing in church and the light hits me ,james brown asking "do you see the light!", " Yes I see the light!"
There is a great great version of this on his now out-of-print VHS tape Live at The Beacon Theater in NYC in November 1989. I was fortunate enough to be in the audience for that version, front row all the way to the right.
@reecypeecy yes, Sir Pee Wee is at the top of his game here as well as the whole band. "Haunts of ancient peace from this dvd ,(hell this entire dvd is great) and the "Common One" record are also great examples of great horn play.
Seen the great man perform this several times in concert, you sort of get lost in the music hard to explain, but you are left wanting more.Love the the fact TS Elliot joined lloyds bank.
@nogurunomethod1 Thanks for posting. It is odd how Pee Wee joined Lloyds Bank also. It is amazing to watch the band work so well together, Van changing words and just grooving that Jazz thing.
@CJHawkinsTube This great piece of music sends me on an indescribable journey everytime I hear it.. The musicians have to really be on their toes to keep up with the master's whims and improvisations. BTW, that was T. S. Elliot who joined Lloyds Bank.

@nogurunomethod1 I know exactly what you mean. When I heard him live about almost a year ago, I kept on wanting to hear him sing In The Garden. Best (and first) live experience of my life so far
with the purchase of over 35 van morrison albums, one concert performance and this very DVD i have earned the right to watch it on youtube,my dues are paid but youtube is a great way to find, sample and then if he hits the right notes, you can truely dive into the music, van has to offer by owning your own copy or like me (enjoying several fun years finding and eventually buliding up my collection) to what it is today.
@helenvienna. i have my dvd in school....i put it on when i need a pick me up after a stressful day with kids.
i think the piece may be the intro to "haunts of ancient peace..." i'll check to be sure. another songs that is a fave of mine when he taps into that wild contemplative ecstasy that fed all of the members of the mystic church...
That's an amazing one as well, but it doesn't have the piano solo either. If I find out how to do it I will try to upload clips from the DVD as well. Looks like 'Haunts of Ancient Piece' could use an upload.
I looked through all the songs and apparently the music in the 'DVD intro' is a compilation of sounds from e.g. Ballerina. It's not really on the DVD :-(. I can't say how much this music means to me though. If you look at my videos you'll see a compilation from Wavelength and Tupelo Honey.
I agree. When you start the DVD (could be the second DVD) there is a piano solo with images of trees in the sun in the intro. Maybe you know what song it was from? I've been looking, I thought it was this song but there is no piano solo in this.

Thanks Van, and thanks to my father. That this was the music I grew up with. When I was 6 years old I knew the lyrics of this song by heart. It still brings tears to my eyes....What a great band also!! That's music!!!!!!
Unbelievable smooth live version of Summertime In England, a true inspired performance of the stream of consciousness style delivery, just as found on the album version from Van Morrison Common One 1980.

The band is killer. Van's performance is outstanding. The recording quality is nice. The sound is very clear.

The amount of time that sax player can hold that note at 8:14 is killer (although I think on the original version its held even longer...)
