I'm thinking you've got a seam of amphibole imbedded in some metamorphic rock. If it was heavy like you say then it wasn't coal. The metamorphic rock may be serpentine as I have heard that there is an exposure of serpentine in the Canyon Creek area.
maybe you should check it out, park at the bridge at fly creek and hike in about a quarter mile, it is on the east side of the island. There is a real nice quartz seam there also and some other real interesting formations.
found color there also, I wish I would have had more time to work that spot though.
was a long time ago, trying to remember it. Thanks for watching and your helpful comments.
that black coal stuff looks like a burnt out tree root system that has fossalised over many thousands of years .... does it have like timber patterns on it?
I live in Vancouver. I'm not a prospector but my brother is. He lives near Yakima WA. I have fished, swam, explored many of the same areas. I've been in Vancouver for 35 years. I love the sourounding areas. That's pretty close to where ST. Helens flipped her lid man was it ashy around here back then. Nice videos, thanx for sharing.
You can get the LR2000 Reports by using the identify tab on the upper left of the Geocommunicator, After you click on the Identify button you click on the area and some little boxes come up and you go from there.
And though the Geo Communicator does not update on a daily basis (working day) it does update at least twice a month the last update was on the 26th of June.
I still think it is an awesome tool I wish we had it to use ten yours ago.
B L M is notorious for running behind on the updated claim. They are just covered up with them. But its the best thing since the washing machine and cold beer.

@Squidcam
There where no wood grain type pattern in that carbon layer at all that I could see.
That is why I was thinking it could be coal, coke or something in that nature..
