First of all, this is a nice piece! Second, It isn't a "Old Army" The Old Army is open top, and the "New Army" has a top strap like this, however as far as historicaly accurate, the Ruger, isn't! Look at a 1860 Colt Old Army by Pietta, or Uberti, then look at a 1858 by these mfg's! You will see what I mean. I have both, and they use a .454 round ball, and I use 30gr, pyrodex .45 pellets for a revolver, they clean up well, and don't seem to be very corrosive at all!
@bmanowske The 1860 COLT was called "Army". The 1858 Remington was called "New Army". The Ruger revolver shown in this video is called a "Ruger Old Army". That's what the company that makes it called it. As you pointed out, it's not a replica of anything but has features similar to the Remington and the Spiller and Burr. It is one nice revolver: strong, accurate, a load of fun!
If You want to add some power to it, tune it up with my newly developed Universal Blk Pdr Bullets. With the right Powder, like 777, Swiss BP,KIK BP and Black MZ and the Right Projectile like my New VKV 240 and 255 Grain Bullets which are capable of exceeding 357 and 41 Magnum Power with more sectional density and a bigger hole!! Videos demonstrating my bullet are on my channel and Mr. Hovey Smith's Channel
I use Triple-7 which is non-corrosive. I used Pyrodex for years, but it is just as corrosive as black powder. I love my Old Army too. The thing is burly and accurate and with coil springs there is nothing to break as in the Remington 1858 Army it mimics. The big pistol also shoot maxi-balls. The only downside is the odd roundball size... .457".
@captainmark1 Very nice gun...i'm 17 and live in the Uk also i was just wondering how do you go about getting a license for a gun? I'd appreciate if you'd get back to me as i would love to begin to collect them and take them down to the gun range.
I was lucky enough to buy one brand new in the box at 480.00 it is the blued not the nikel plate only had it about 2 weeks now can't wait to shoot it I put a short vid of it on utube check it out
They are a GREAT revolver, by far the best cap & ball ever made. I much prefer the look of the fixed sight stainless version, the adjustable rear & tall target front look too modern. I prefer the Lee 230 gr conical, it tends to shoot more accurately in mine with 36 gr eq of H777. Damned powerful too!
