Just a point about the "fucking". An award winner must be given a little grace to speak in his own language, even for a few seconds. Anyone who has ever set foot in Ireland knows that the word "fuck" is flutently Irish. It comes from the mouths of virtually everyone - including Priests! It is so fluent that it has become all things to Irish people - anger, humour, affection, sadness, love. Perhaps the most expressive word in our brand of English. it is true the Ulster Scots paid a collosal role in the progression and wealth of America..being an Ulster Scot myself we learn in history that millions of Irish both from the North and South emigrated to America for a better life.....whether from the North or South they both would have been considered Irish.....and it is a fallacy to say there was no discrimination .....the Americans would have seen the Irish and other immigrants as threats to their jobs and livelihoods........

If you are talking about the Scots-Irish or as they are also known, the Ulster-Scots, well that is a different matter altogether. They are an industrious, diligent people and were the major contributors to the "building of America". From the frontiers to politics, they were the vanguard of what we know as America.

It is not a myth that there were signs on doors saying "no Irish" more so in Britain than anywhere else....my father lived in London in his early youth and it wasn't just "no Irish" it usually read "no Irish, Blacks or pets".........
