    i don't have a soldering iron :'(

  • Dear Sleepless ninjas,

I have ZTE tablet & i am unable to connect the external keyboard or Mouse to it, it has only one micro USB port please suggest me how can i connect the external keyboard to it.

  • i get everything but 1 question please any 1 can help

how does this word spelled correctly ? !!!!" soader "!!!! ? .,.,please i am confused

  • @icl0udn3t "solder" you can wiki it, it could be my Boston pronunciation of the word that is confusing :)

  • @sleeplessninjas thanks for answering and I only have 1 thing left

which is creating MHlL mini HDMI adapter for Galaxy note ^_^

  • thanks mate this video is awesome i just made a OTG cabel out of a samsung U2 data cabel that followed with my samsung galaxy s2. is whas the easyest thing in the world because the blanc port i needed was right next to the black wire so all i need to do was...

i made a little soldering betveen those to(the wire and the blanc)no wires needed and the connection goes right back ind the case

  • why would u make when u can buy one for £1.99 on ebay :S ...good video man but still stress

  • @adea1991 Because some people don't want to wait for it to be shipped. Most OTG cables on eBay ship from Hong Kong and take 2-3 weeks to ship.

  • can you use a 3g modem for outdors internet ??? (on the xoom withoth slot sim 3g)

  • What about using it to connect a thumb drive? Great work btw!

  • Do I need to rooted and unlocked my Motorola Xoom to use an OTG Cable to access mouse or keyboard? Do I need to turn on the USB debugging?

    My Xoom Android Version 3.2.1

Thanks ahead for answer my questions.

  • @AstroBoy2828 No need to root or unlock to use mouse and keyboard (you can buy a usb hub and use both ;) ) Also USB debugging does not need to be on, this is something that came standard with Xoom 3.1 also you can use bluetooth keyboard/mouse if you don't want wires

  • Thx very cool:))

  • it works perfectly on galaxy s2

  • Tested and working!! thx for this!

  • Can i put my male dick into the females vagina?

  • Can i follow this instractions for a miniUSB OTG cable?

  • 9min --' for showing hor to solder cable pins .....!!! you suck man

  • this dose not work for me i have my galexys 2 saying a host cable is conected but thats it when i conect a mouse or keyboard the mouse for eg lights up but i cant get it to work why?

  • Thanks a lot for the video, it is really a very simple way and I couldn't find this connection in my country and I tried your way and it works

  • Dear all Galaxy S2 friends this can be used for S2 also.....

Nice video i did perfectly for my Samsung Galaxy S2, OTG cable working perfectly, thanks ninja for this cool video.....

  • can i leave the male USB end and hock up a USB female-to-female coupler ?????

i already have this coupler and just do the cross-over on the micro

  • @ksamj202 All that is necessary to make OTG is grounding that wire discussed in the video. This plug must be in the Xoom side and only the xoom. This just tells the Xoom to go into Host mode but doesn't really modify the communication at all so you can interconnect any type of USB wires as long as the Micro USB has the grounded pin in the Xoom

  • mine has 4 pins :/

  • I think this is what will solve the problem with my new JVC GS-TD1 3D camcorder. It can take a hard drive connected to it via USB. But, it isn't working. I added power, and then the camera switched into a mode, but still, didn't see the cam. I suspected that this problem may be that it wants an OTG cable. So now, I'll do the same and let you know if it works.

If this works for the JVC, I'll let the group on AVS know that this is a simple work around.

    Cheers

  • @BlondBoy47 That would be nice if it works out. Please let me know :)

  • @sleeplessninjas Well, it does work and nicely too. I figured that with th new JVC GS-TD1 3D cam, to trigger hosting a HDD directly, it had to be either power going to the cam or those 2 pins shorted.

I did the power test and all that did is flip the camera into thinking it was connected to a computer.

After seeing your vid, I realized, shorting 4&5 had to be it. And it was.

Now the cam sees the HDD and backups up to and plays 3D vids directly.

    THANKS FOR THE CONFIRMATION! :)

  • I want to thank you, your video allows me to make my own otg cable and it's done. Really thanks.

  • zomfg thx soo much for this vid im in teh exact same situation as u

  • @neardood1 Your welcome! I'm going to ask you some liquid cooling questions in the next coming weeks ;)

  • Thanks man! I used the same instructions not to make an OTG cable, but a Motorola "factory" cable to unbrick my Xoom! I just connected pin 4 to VCC instead of ground.

  • my micro USB is wired different from your cable. I'm stuff

  • @blackte4 Hey, did you mean your stuck? If so are the wires on your micro color coded?

  • Friend of mine bought the Acer tab instead of the xoom. he's upset now because the Acer doesn't have a usb port...

  • Hey can u directly transfer info like a word document from a usb memory stick using this micro USB to USB Female Cable?

  • @eddy4059 You need an OTG cable to hook into the USB and you need to either use a App, script, or a custom kernel to mount the USB. Its not like a PC/MAC where you plug in USB and it automounts unless you use custom kernel, check out my latest video which discusses this.

  • one last question, i´m already on 3.1 honeycomb official release, so if i want to install the tiamat where can i find the steps? i saw that i need root my xoom and some things more, can you explain for me what is the procedure?

Thanks a lot you are a very cool guy.

  • I am running stock, what is tiamat?? custom rom? do you really recommend rooting? is the speed diff noticeable?

  • thanks for the video, I made a cable today and works awesome.

  • what do you think about this custom kernel? they work properly? do you recomend some version?

  • @lfblanco12 I use tiamat and think its really great. I am using latest with 1.6ghz overclock

  • are you using some custom kernel Like tiamat?

  • I have a 10-Port Hub for USB 2.0. Can I use that so I can allow the Xoom to have more hosting devices say like a keyboard, mouse, USB speakers IPOD and a USB Camera like the Sony Bloggie Touch?

  • cool video, i tried but definely i don´t have the skill. So i bought one cable on ebay and now i´m waiting for it.

I have a question about the drivers for the devices, there is some generic drivers for all the devices in the honeycomb 3.1 or i´ll have to download the driver for it device that i want to use?

  • @lfblanco12 You will not have to worry about downloading drivers. Either the device will function or not, but most in general should work.

  • @sleeplessninjas But i saw in other video here in youtube that someone was trying to use the host to connect come stuffs and many things doesn´t work like, flashcards, card readers, HDD, for real the only storage device that worked was the digital camera.

So i´m worry because connect my flashcard was what i really wanted.

  • @lfblanco12 so basically this is the official google release text about the USB "Android 3.1 adds broad platform support for a variety of USB-connected peripherals and accessories. Users can attach many types of input devices (keyboards, mice, game controllers) and digital cameras. Applications can build on the platform’s USB support to extend connectivity to almost any type of USB device." Notice storage drives are not explicitly mentioned. Apps and mods will make them work but right now...

  • @lfblanco12 ... there is no explicit support from the OS for storage devices. I could be wrong but that is my take. It doesn't mean there won't ever be, and its not something to be upset about because the host feature is a huge jump for us. More is to come just in time :)

  • @lfblanco12 Also there are custom kernel, I believe Tiamat that support Storage devices, so when I say its not explicitly supported my mean the Google 3.1, but there are custom kernels that do this, requires root and so forth

  • this is pretty cool, but seems a bit complicated for me, though I have looked around and found a otg usb cable on ebay for a few bucks and only a few days wait. If you got the skills go for it but if your patient like me buy from online.

I always wanted to buy a xoom, waiting for the price to go down, but I just saw what the Asus transformer was cable of, and with they keboard, it looks like a awesome device. I am will be buying a android tab in the summer but waiting for price to go down.

  • good video, do you have an usb gamepad that you could connect and test? i have the iconia a500 so i shouldn't need the cable :)

  • @fortelv999 I do not but I am working on trying to get ahold of a one to test out for everyone

  • Did the Android 3.1 update enable the SD card slot to be used????????

  • @IamPrassu It did not but if you use a custom rom from BigDogRush you will have root. Check it out on xda Xoom Forums, I have a video just before this one on it

  • cool ....Android rocks!!!!!

  • Cool vid...but...you should warn younger people of the dangers of this type of mod, not just the knife but also the cables and shorting your xoom

  • Nice man, think I'll make one also.

  • Nice!!! Can't wait to get the Xoom! Next tuesday I will get mine!

Do you heard about Google connecting a Xbox controller to the Xoom on the Google I/0? Is it possible to test this out for us?

    Kind regards!

  • Cool....
