  • owa owa!!!!!

  • i hate my generation im 13

  • @thebestanthe3rd me too13

  • @thebestanthe3rd

You're 13? Obviously your parents are Xers and should have taught you self esteem.

  • gen x can still be strippers right? heheheheee

  • Gen-X (1965-79)

or 1961-1980, depending on the source!

  • Like this if you are a Gen-X!!!!!!!!

  • Your GEN X If you witnessed most of the original airings of these TV series or specials as teenagers or children: Star Wars Christmas Special, Dallas - Who Shot JR?, Roots, Bicentennial Celebration, Evel Knievel attempt Jump over the Snake River Canyon, The Human Fly, That's Incredible, Battlestar Galactica, Battle of the Network Stars,

The Incredible Hulk, Project UFO, Salvage 1, Lucan, Logan's Run, original ESPN broadcast, Dean Martin's Celebrity Roasts, and the first season of MTV.

  • WOW! Reagan was president when I started kindergarten, I remember sitting in class when the Challenger exploded, they let us out of school early.

  • "If you don't remember when TV's didn't have remotes or when cooking meant getting hot on a stove (not a micro-wave) or when Members Only jackets were cool or when the centipede was not only a breakdance move but, also a videogame. Then don't talk to me about GenerationX. I lived it!"

  • @MrWINNSLAW Same Here, I recall the first TVs with a sonic remote control and playing electro-mechanical arcade games and a pong like game on display at Sears in the mid 70s. I also played Seawolf arcade game. One of my older siblings had a combo radio/record/eight track player console. I also owned a few slot cars and tracks. I spent many Saturdays building and painting models of WWII fighter planes, bombers, and hot rods. Those were the good old politically correct free days.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s "Amen, and amen!"

  • I don't consider myself a Gen-Y at all. I've talked to many of them: spoiled brats in my opinion who have no right to brag when they're shit isn't that good. It's all commerical or some copycat version of something Gen-X came up with. I was born in Nov. 1977.

I always ask this to people " Do you remember the Spaceshuttle Challenger blowing up? If they say no, They are Gen Y.

  • @mpm2010lbc You're Gen X. According Generations in Wikipedia, Gen X runs from about 1964 till 1981.

There is a lot of argument about this. Some think that Gen X actually runs from 1960 to 1980 while others believe it runs well into the mid 80s (from like 65 to 85). However, late 60s and all of the 70s is generally Gen X.

Like that old saying goes, I know one when I see one (LOL!!).

  • True, we don't get much coverage, unlike the over-bearing baby booms and their kids, Gen Y. It sucks that the decrepit, elderly booms are still hogging the spotlight after all these years and refuse to retire gracefully.

But I'd rather belong to a small, but cool, pioneering generation than a large, ubiquitous generation like the booms. As you can see from this video, we got a lot of cool stuff!

I'm 42 years old and proud to be a Gen Xer!

  • @Lalo3001 younger gen x is really fucked up cuz of the death of river phoenix, they couldnt get passed their teen idol dying, so they did drugs and didnt do shit in life.....cuz they wanted to od like river did....river showed gen x to throw their life away like him

  • @sylicone221 I'm a younger Gen-Xer born in 79, you must be a cougar now.

  • @DIJV79 isnt cougar someone who dates someone 5 years or more younger...like if a 23 yr old dated a 16 year old? same thing right? or if a 30 year old dated an 18 year old? lol.....was born 74......

  • @sylicone221 All cougar means is easy prey.

  • @DIJV79 heheehe...awww.....yeah...why not od like River heheheee...

  • @sylicone221 River Phoenix geesh! I haven't heard that name in years.

  • @DIJV79 reallly? are you serious? everyone has moved on??? what about kurt cobain ? lol....

  • @sylicone221 What about Kurt Cobain? you where probably already out of high school with kids already lol.

  • @DIJV79 still no kids hahahaaa.....out of high school though...remember when douche river died, he showed us we could od like him hahhahaa

  • @sylicone221 Whats your thing with River Phoenix? you sound kind of crazy.

  • @DIJV79 dont u remember when he od'd in front of the viper room heheheheh! i remember like it was yesterday....lol....his death is why many in gen x started drugs and thought hey..lets only live to 23 like him hehehehehheehhehehehehehehehee..

  • @DIJV79 Ohh shit! your'e another burned out 80's druggie, who turned into some crazy cougar psyhchotic cat lady. PEACE! I'm outta here.

  • "Mr. Gorbachev... TEAR DOWN THIS WALL." I totally remember that. You go, Ronnie! RIP.

  • i was born in the wrong time period... ahh, kurt cobain. you're missed. dave looks a bit dazed. it's sad no one knows who the buggles are anymore...

  • I love GenX too bad I'm not one of them.

  • A generation is defined by the majority. Most of those born in the late 70s embraced artists like paula abdul, the beastie boys, and Run DMC. Those born in the early 80s embraced the same artists and gangsta rap.

The Majority of late Gen Xers embraced the NWOBHM, classic 70s and early 80s hard rock and heavy metal bands, and Guns N Roses.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s gen xers got into drugs cuz of the death of river phoenix, and didnt do shit in life, river really showed them od at 23 like him. hehheheee....river phoenix RUINED gen x.....how dare he....piece of shit junkie, showed gen x that they only have to live to 23...they can go out like him hehehehehe!

  • I tend to consider 1976 as the last year for Gen X. In 1976, Superbowl 10 marked by an X was played by Pittsburg Steelers vs Dallas Cowboys. The Steelers defeated the Cowboys 21 to 17.

    An interesting fact:

If one adds 2,1, and 7 you get 10.

If one adds 1,7, and 2 you also get 10.

  • Gen Xers were the first to experience many technologies we still have today as kids or teenagers; examples: hand held calculators, personal computers, digital voice synthesizers, hand held electronic games, home gaming consoles, VCRs, tv remote control, color tv, modern day skateboard, large led watches, home microwave ovens, Mr Coffee instant coffee maker, etc. Gen Xers have never known a world without TV, while Gen Yers have never known a world without personal computers.
  • Gen X general attributes: Gen X = very little political correctness Gen X = mostly use cell phones to talk Gen X = most used to physical labor Gen X = it's our fault when we mess up Gen X = rare self esteem issues Gen X = we are critical of ourselves if we dont do well Gen X = we are confident in our abilities if we have experience Gen X = we dont want or expect to change for fix the planet Gen X = we expect to work and raise our families Gen X = we love our home entertainment center
  • It's unfortunate for those born between 1976 and 1980.

There is overlap in this group with both Gen X and Gen Y. Most of those born between these years identify a little more with young Generation X born in the early to mid 70's.

It's difficult to identify these individuals to either Generation. This group has the luxury of choice to identify themselves more with genX or genY.

I consider Gen Y to be those individuals born in 1980 give or take a year.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s If you remember the space shuttle challenger exploding in 1985 your an Xer and if you remember TRON your definitley an Xer. The last of generation X graduated in the 90's. 1979 is the cut off point but in my opinion its right on the money.

  • @DIJV79 If you remember 8-track tapes and CB radios your an Xer. Recall Gen Xer also includes individuals born in the early 1960s. I am a mid Gen Xer and saw TRON and Heavy Metal in the theatre. My younger relatives are late Gen Xers born in the mid 70's, they too remember Tron, Empire Strikes Back, and Transformers on TV.

These late Gen Xers remember 8-Track players and CB radios since a few were still around in the early 80s.

  • Generation X is 1961 - 1975 give or take a year. Star Wars was a defining cultural moment that anyone old enouph recall seeing in the theatres or remember the merchandising phenomena which followed in late 1977 and through 1978 could be considered generation X.

  • I was born 1978.... I watched sesame street as a toddler in the early 80's, I remember that tuesday morning in third grade when the Challenger exploded, In elementary I played "mash" with my friends, my mom would match my color of socks with my scrunchie, I used encyclopedias to research for book reports, In my preteens I heard the adults talk about the gulf war, I owned a cassette player before a cd player....

I consider myself a GenXer.... Proudly!

  • I was born in 1977, and I'll be DAMNED if they are going to put me with young ass Gen Y because I have NOTHING in common with Gen Y. I have WAAAY to much memories of the 80s as a child to be considered a Gen Y. GENERATION XER FOR LIFE BIAAAATCH!

  • @blackloverules

I have studied this for my MA in Psychology and they say that, biologically speaking, GenX is 1965-76 because of the stats on babies born during that period (the least amount born... it was almost called the "Baby Bust" generation). HOWEVER, sociologists argue like you and I both do that those born 1977 to about 1981 can arguably be considered GenX as well w/regard to their connections, etc.

  • @GenXorcist1976

I still disagree with it because I have nothing in common with Gen Y, so you can't impossibly say that I'm Gen Y. I don't care if it's biological or NOT. I am not Gen Y, period!

  • If you read everything I said, you see I disagree too... they say that the whole "1965-1976" thing is based on the birth rates and birth rates alone which I also agree is BS. GenX can stretch back to those born in 1960 and as far ahead as 1980 as most generation cycles are 20 year periods.... I thought you understood I was agreeing.

  • @GenXorcist1976

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know. It's just that it doesn't make any sense because usually every generation is 15 to 20 years, and if they are only going to make it 11 years, then that's something that I have to disagree with, and speaking of that birth rate, the 1977ers weren't born that much either, so whoever made that bullshit theory need to stop writing books or something because that person is illogical

  • @GenXorcist1976

I personally think most people born between 1964 and 1982 are Generation X'ers. The Early-60's born people I tend to think of as late- baby boomers or cuspers (Generation Jones).

I'm a Generation Y'er and I don't see the people born in the early 80's as entirely the same as me. They came of age in the mid-late 90's and were largely shaped by a world where computers and the internet were not as advanced as they are today, without the facebook/myspace/youtube/AIM/Ipod culture.

  • @cvvemuri I know individuals born in 1980, most use their cell phones to text or twitter, facebook, etc. I don't know of any individuals born before 1977 who use a cell phone to text or twitter.

  • @cvvemuri

You are absolutely right. Those born roughly '58-'63 are in kind of a "sandwich generation" (called Gen Jones, as you said) and I've even heard it said that those on the borderline between X and Y are referred to as the "MTV Generation" (roughly born '78-'83). Similar to Jones, they either identify more strongly with the generation prior or after their birth. I am DEFINITIVELY an Xer born late '76 as, for example, even in COLLEGE "World Wide Web" was barely a blip on the radar.

  • @GenXorcist1976

I agree regarding the 18-20 year periods though. Generation Y, for me, spans 1985 to 2001. Anyone who remembers the 2000's decade in great depth (at the latest those born at the beginning of the decade) are part of Gen Y (to me). Hence why I think this trend of placing Gen Z from 1995 onwards as being a little ridiculous, considering the 95'ers would have been 6-7 years old when 9/11 happened and in perfect position to remember it. Gen Z spans from 2002 onwards roughly.

  • @cvvemuri

Ironically enough, the term "Generation Y" was originally used to refer to the people born from 1975-1982.

  • @blackloverules

For example, like I say to my students, if you were in school when the Challenger blew up, you're in GenX. Or, as a local example (I live in WA), do you have memory of Mt. St. Helens eruption? You're GenX. I do agree with you.

  • @GenXorcist1976

No. I remember Baby Jessica, Hulk Hogan, The Cosby Show, the Challenger blowing up. Lucille Ball died in early 1989, and the Berlin Wall, and the Gulf War, so I'll be damn if I'm GenY. That's an insult to me as a 1977er! I don't care what some college say. Most articles about Gen X ALWAYS include the 1977er because of the POP CULTURE, not because of some damn birth rate. I go by what they can recall.

  • Sheesh, what a way to bring back my 80's childhood! Also born in the mid 70's.

  • @pika62221 did u drop out of college and throw life away cuz of the death of River Phoenix...his death ruined my life....he showed us to do drugs and od like him.....you havent moved on have you?

  • man wish I was a Gen-X'er

  • Interesting. I was born in 1978. Kinda on the cusp of X and Y..

Had it tough like the Gen Xers, but starting to take on more of the mentality of Gen Y.

The 2 Generations are quite the same, have almost opposite views than our parents, looking more towards the moral side of life, where our parents were just so immoral..

    ers...

    Peace...

  • "immoral" is so subjective

  • @Larre500

You are a Gen X, PERIOD! I don't want to hear that XY Cusp bullshit! Be proud to be an Xer because I am! :)

  • @Larre500 I don't think X and Y are very alike, Y seems to be more herdlike, whilst proclaiming individuality, to the extreme

X are nothing like that ?

  • @oklapi Agree totally, Gen X, we are more individualistic. Y copycats everything we do.

  • born in 1973 proud to be GEN X

  • Very well captured of the late 70's to early 90's - this certainly represents childhood through adolescence, for me anyway having been born in the Bicentennial Year.

  • @GenXorcist1976

Me too, 77er here! This reps my childhood too! From the late 70s as a toddler to the early 90s as a teenager.

  • Glad to be GenX!

  • Awesome video. As a Gen Xer I remember all that stuff and can relate to it. I wouldn't have just put Pong on there though, there were better video games during our time than that.

  • Great Video. Spot on for our Generation...Well our Generation back when we were coming of age.

  • Best Generation X video collage! Awesome work on this. Two perfect music cuts. Love Andre the Giant, Darth Vader, Pong, Reagan etc. Check out this guy's design homepage. He seems like an excellent young talent if you are a business needing video designs. Seriously.

  • Neat vid.
