  • 1. Copy the layer

    2. Make the top one b&w leave the other colorful

    3. Delete the area from the b&w, that you want to be in color!

pinkyssnapshots.ifp3.com "If you need it!! I can snap it!!!!

  • Thank you very much, I'll see if i can also do it too!

  • Just a so you know, you could have actually stopped at like 0:35, and just used the layer mask that comes with the hue/sat adjustment layer and paint in black to not have the adjustment applied (ie, not desaturating them)

  • The audio makes it hard to understand what you're saying.

  • Excellent. Very useful info.

  • Fantastic tutorial :-) Helped me create a great black & White plus colour composition. Many thanks from wedding photographer wwwdotdavidclickdotcom

  • Kako li te ne mrzi da pricas na mikrofon i da se snimas za glupi jutjub... brate.....

    IN D PEDU!

  • Thanx

  • After I change the saturation to -100% than go to layers. merge down is not there. what am i doing wrong??

  • Very helpful. Thank you!

  • A non-destructive way is to choose 'create new fill or adjustment layer' choose 'Black & White' that creates a black and white masked layer. Use the black brush tool on the mask to expose the colour parts you want.

  • You sound like an Italian-American gangster.

  • thank you..good tutorial!!!

  • Thank you very much!!! :)

  • thx =D

  • you sound like sandra bullock

  • awesome, thank you! <3

  • NICEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! *****

  • this seemed simple enough, but didnt work for me, for some reason when i click the "layer" tab, it hasnt got layer mask? so i couldnt do any more ?

  • thats way to complicated compared to some of the other vids i saw

  • @riley675 wow... the thing about the technique I showed you is that it is non destructive... a lot of other techniques erase parts of your images... be sure to see what it is they are having you do. I am surprised you thought that was complicated... it it was one color i wanted to remove it would have much more simple and I would have used a different method. As always in photoshop there are many ways to achieve the same goal.

  • thank you so very much!!

  • @gijszaalberg your very welcome!

  • Thanks! Helped a lot!

  • nice tnx

  • WOW that was cool!!

  • thank you very much managed to create my image :)

  • Hi there,

Thanks for putting this up, but I had a problem with the steps. When I made a mistake in putting the color back into the photo while it was black and white, i reversed the black/white color boxes and tried to fix it, but it did nothing. I know I can go to my history box and delete it, but I want to learn it your way. Can you help me?

  • @joey337 sorry, I dont check youtube too often and I missed your reply...I am not sure what you did wrong... have you figured it out yet or do you still need help?

  • Simply Great!

  • thank you so much that was so easy way to do that

  • what program did you use? or are you able to do this on any photoshop?

  • I think she's using CS something. I have Elements and CS3 and they can both do this. I'm not sure about the other Photoshops, but I'm pretty sure this works on any of them.

  • brill ! - Thanks so much

  • THANKS best video i have seen yet

    Thank you so much..

But how did you get photoshop on your computer?

  • Yeah!

    Thanks so much!

  • I figured out the GIMP version by watching this. Follow these steps:

    1. Open and select photo (layer 1.)

    2. Click on "Layers." Choose "Duplicate Layer."

    3. Click on "Colors." Go to "Hue Saturation." Reduce saturation to -100. (or B&W.)

    4. Go to "Layer." Go to "Mask." Click on "Add Layer Mask."

    5. Go to "Tools." Choose painbrush and size. Choose black square to reveal color and white square to cover it (6. Paint away!

    7. Go to "Image." Choose "Flatten Image" to save. Have fun!

  • cooll thanks :D

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

  • oh wow. the best video i've seen :)

  • VERY NICE.

  • Thanks SO much! I was able to do that awesome thing with my art project! xD Thanks to you, I'll get an A for sure! 5 stars!

  • awesome, but a lil 2 fast :) 4stars :D

  • awesome

I was trying to find out how to do this for sooo long

    thanks

  • thank you much it was a little bit difficult at first but it finally worked...ccooollll thanx

  • This doesn't work.

I did EVERYthing just as you said and it makes me sad because when I try to paint, nothing happens.

I see that you have an extra layer that is locked, and the original picture is not. I couldn't get my original picture to unlock.

    What do I do???? :(

  • Click and drag the lock to the trash can. Where is it you are having an issue?

  • super!!!!!!!!=]=]=]=]

  • geez.

    Both ways are good.

    End of.

    =)

  • Too many steps.

    1. Add hue saturation adjustment layer

    2. move saturation slider all the way to the left (-100)

    3. select layer mask (small box to the right of adjustment layer icon)

    4. paint with black to reveal color.

  • It is 2.34 mins long and there aren't too many steps. If you have a better way to do it with less time then go ahead and post it. This was the way I decided was best to explain it to people wanting an easy way to accomplish this feat.

  • I did in my post. I didn't know it would upset you so much. There is no need to make a copy, there is no need to merge the layers down in to a black & white layer than add a layer mask to that. Sorry a method with less steps that doesn't add any more size to the file upsets you. It's great that you posted this for people to learn from. All I did was say that there were unnecessary steps involved. There are, but to each his own. Take a breath & relax.

  • I am not upset. The reason I merged down and flattened was so that people who were not familiar with working with non psd files could keep it as a .jepg or whatever else they wished.

  • My post was not meant to upset you. The flattening I can understand to print the file or to import the file into another app. I was just speaking of the steps for making a copy of the color image, adding a HS adj. layer, desaturating, merging down & adding a layer mask. The hue saturation adj. layer already has a layer mask. It's great of you to take the time to teach...I was just trying to add to that. Sorry if it was taken the wrong way.

  • very nice clear Tut!

  • Nice little tute!!
